Ugh, that has happened to me a few times. Last time it was when I bought a coat at Lands End for my son who needed it the next day since he had lost his. I was so upset - I called and spoke with the manager and explained how inconvenient it was for me to drive back just to have the sensor removed (it was about half an hour away and I had no plans to be back in the area that week). They gave me a nice discount - maybe 30% to make up for my trouble. I say, definitely call and complain - why should you have to pay for their mistake?

It happened to me once for something I bought in DC and brought back to San Diego. I went to another store and explained the situation with the receipt. They took it off for me. You can try that for the one you had the receipt for. I don't shop at Kohl's, but most systems can get your purchase information through the tags and visa information.

Yep, that happened to me as well. I had a situation where I bought something to wear right away. Once I got home I realized the sensor was still on. I got really fed up, I didn't have time to go back to the store. I googled "remove store sensor" and found that if you wrap a rubber band around the gap between the clothing and the sensor, the sensor will give in. I would not try it on the ink filled ones though.
... and I've been doing that ever since... The things you learn online...

I've had it happen a couple times and it is *always* a hassle! First you need to go back to store, then you need to prove you actually paid for it -- all because THEY made the mistake.

If they had the sensors activated, they would have gone off when you tried to leave the store and it wouldn't become a later problem!

I guess we have to be more diligent customers when they aren't diligent cashiers :-(

In your case, I'd call ahead and speak to the manager asking for alternatives to your 90-minute drive (is that doubled for round trip?). There probably aren't any, but at least they should start to feel your pain and may make some enforcement at work (or give you some discount for your trouble?)

Maya - I like Century 21's policy!! and that should be one that a dishonest customer can't abuse!!

Melody, I've never had it happen to me, not yet. It seems I always have to locate the sensor myself before I pay and THEN politely remind the sales associate to remove it.
I have noticed that Kohl's seems to be the worst offender for lack of attention to this detail.

melody- yes, Kohl's will scan your card to verify your purchase. What a pain in the rumpus though. I don't know that I've actually ever had that happen.

Ugh, I sympathize. I wish more stores would implement the guarantee Century 21 has: If your item still has the sensor on it, your entire shopping haul is free.

That'd keep them on their toes...

Almost every time I go shopping, I come home with an item with the sensor still on it. I should just start checking behind the clerks. Because I live in a rural location and have to drive to shop, it is not convenient to return to the store. I currently have a red drapey cardigan and a teal green dolman sweater, both in the closet with sensors. I do have the receipt for the red one but haven't made the 1 1/2 hr drive yet. The other, I didn't realize the sensor was on for a couple of days and now can't find the receipt. I got it from Kohl's and wonder if they can scan the card I paid for it with to see that I actually did pay for it ... anyone shop at Kohl's? Regardless, I am very fed up with this kind of thing.
