This whole season has been tough for me. I didn't buy much for fall, nothing for winter, and I have been feeling blah the whole time and still thinking what could be done about it. Especially now that the temperatures have dropped to seriously cold and all I want is wool. Right there with you. But I did buy a spring scarf this past weekend though.

As soon as I come back from NYFW, I'll be planning my Autumn 2012 outfits.

I have fashion buyer syndrome (most buyers have this disease, and I was buyer for many years). I get very bored with what's in stores unless it's hot off the press. And seeing the next season come together tickles my fancy much more than the season I am dressing in. As a result, I am a huge forward planner when it comes to purchasing seasons.

But rest assured, I am still working with clients on their Winter wardrobes, so you are not alone.

I love consignment stores and b/c they are cheaper, I'm able to buy many things at once. So basically, I have all these pieces and then look on YLF to find new ways to put them together. New winter wardrobe for a great price!

Hi Jayne,
It is definitely winter here! I live in turtlenecks and scarfs and practical pants with boots. I really just buy for work and need to experiment with more silhouettes and color combos. I do buy for winter but I haven't really been planning a "look" so this site has been very inspirational. I am going to try to be systematic and organized about a "few" spring pieces so I'm more looking to spring.

I am still developing a strategy, and my budget is really constrained. It also takes me forever to decide whether or not I like something, so I find myself trailing behind the trends by a couple of years but still hoping to find some specific item. This is all compounded by the fact that I'm a plus size, and it's always hard to find nice things in my size to start with.

It's part of why I haunt the thrift stores and ebay... surely someone who is savvier than me will soon get rid of the things I want to buy!

I struggle with this-- I am hard to fit and have to shop online, or get ONE B&M trip.

It goes like this-- find out new trends, make list of basics I need to buy or replace, decide on trends I'd like to participate in, look around, wait for awhile because there isn't what I want in yet, find what I think I want or at least the best option, compare, order, wait for 1.5 weeks, return, wait for the return to process (tick tock, tick tock), in the meantime start looking again, find what I want, wait to order because of previous item still being on CC, go to order--- no longer in my size! -- look around-- nothing left for the season! decided to quit looking because there is only "x" amount of the season left, and I went all year without "x" item. Worry that if I by "x" item now, it won't fit next year . . .

SIGH DEEPLY---

I've GOT to get ahead of this curve SOMEHOW!

Me too. It's hard for me to find what I want, so I'm still working on my winter wardrobe. I'm getting used to the idea of shopping in the fall, but I still dawdle. I think I finally found a pair of boots today though, after only a year and a half of looking. So I guess I'm done with my wardrobe for winter 2010!

I kept waiting for the weather to actually start to turn wintry, and it never did!! So yes, I'm late, too.

I just popped over to the JC Penney near me because I was told they have some new pricing strategy. Couldn't really say I noticed, but (as often) I found some things I really, really like. Mostly cardigans -- I have gone for years without really having cardis I love, and so I got a couple and, in fact, I'm wearing one of 'em as I type this -- so you know I like it!

I justified the trip because I decided my gray suede foldover boots cry out for skinny jeans to tuck in. I did find some jeans -- but went on the low-price side because I am not sure whether I will look and feel okay in them, yet.

I will soon do some WIWs, but I need batteries for my digital camera right now (my phone takes AWFUL pics)

Yes, that's me too. But since it takes me at least half a season to decide if I even like some of the new trends.....I just wait to see what winds up on the sale rack. I'm going to try to change my ways for spring/summer since that's my dominant season.

Jayne, that is probably not a bad strategy if you don't see yourself wearing it for several seasons. I did that with ponte pants and skinny jeans. I bought some really inexpensive pairs because I didn't know if I would actually like wearing them. Though, I have the advantage of being able to find almost anything on the Internet here in the States, so when I decided that both would become wardrobe basics for me, I bought better ones. I also recently bought a pair of red skinnies on sale. They make me happy and I like them, but they won't become part of my basic wardrobe, so I don't feel as emotionally invested in them if I only wear them through next Fall.

Isabel, good to know I am not alone....

Suz, hmmm, that hint about consignment is something....I kinda feel I do that with the cheap brands...buy something that is almost right and then if I really like it and feel it is a part of the wardrobe I want, I go ahead and buy a better piece when I can find it. Maybe not ideal, but it takes me sooooo long to decide that things i like disappear. Like mustard and orange jeans, they are out there and I am sitting the fence waiting for the perfect pair, they may disappear by the time I go ahead and buy!

This is the story of my pre YLF life!

Like Isabel, a weight change forced me off my bum (so to speak) because if I didn't BBQ (buy buy quick) I might be nearly naked all season - not good when you live in Canada!

But I've found that I still had to go relatively slowly with the buying, partly due to budgetary restraints and partly due to confusion!

I really paid a lot of attention to my wardrobe "capsules" and asked myself hard questions about where there were holes. What sort of situations did I feel dressed for, and what would send me into a panic of "what will I WEAR??" And I tried to fill the "what will I WEAR" holes first.

I also bought myself some things in consignment stores. It didn't feel quite as risky. I could try it out, and maybe by next year I will know better what I really want.

Jayne, this is SOOOOO me ! I generally have never bought during the season. Unless I absolutely need something. I watch and I peruse and I dream and I strategize and ....OMG. Then I buy, usually on sale, and wear a little currently then save for the next appropriate season. This year I broke out of it because I gained a lot of weight due to a medical issue and I had to buy as I went along. I also cannot buy anything for Spring until Spring because I don't know what my weight or shape will be. OK that is not a solution and I don't recommend it - but I totally get it !!!

he he, Angie is posting away about the new spring colors and I am stuck in my head just figuring out now the things I want for winter! It seems to take me a really long time to see in my head what I need, from all the stuff out there, to finish or make an outfit.

It ALL seems so appealing at the beginning and a little too new...but watching these blogs and magazines and people pull it off on the street I get more and more into the thought of how a new thing could fit in! And then I am making a list when all the sales are on and there are no sizes left.

Anyone else in this boat and any advice to break the rut?
