I'm tired of my winter clothes too. I just don't have that much variety than I do with my spring and summer clothes, although it is cold and rainy for a long time. But I also don't want to spend money on more winter clothing. I think I just have to make do with them for a while and try to plan better for next fall.

I love my winter clothes. I mostly wear cashmere/alpaca/merino sweater or cardigans with a merino base layer to keep me warm. I don't wear my aran sweaters in the winter as they are quite bulky under my Aigle down coat. I love Inverallan sweaters/cardigans but I find that new wool/lambswool is not warm enough for me.

The weather in the UK never gets too warm in Spring or Summer and it is often slightly cool in the Summer.

I love scarves and I just put a colourful scarf to add a little fun to my outfits!

I'm glad you picked up a few new things for the rest of the season Shannon (I'll pop over to that thread in a minute). Just wanted to comment that it took me two years to come around to the idea that I really DO NEED to have more variety for my dominant season (um... let's just call it "rain"). I'm still not quite there yet (winter is especially a lacking area in my wardrobe), but I will say that I am not nearly as fatigued with my wardrobe this year as I was last year at this time. It is worth having the extra items, for sure. And Ariadne I'm with you, I want wool coats in all colors of the rainbow! But I only have black, gray, and cream right now

I get tired of my winter clothes but not nearly as much as with my summer clothes. This year the cold weather came late but we still probably have at least another month. Like you I get desperate for something different toward the end of the season, And the sales are a huge temptation. If I do buy, I'm telling myself just one thing. We'll see how that goes.

Me too, Shannon, going through seasonal fatigue here. Despite new clothes for Christmas... with our weird weather of storms, snow, frigid cold, I feel I have to put most of my wardrobe on hold. There is actually only a small % that I get to use because it has to also agree with my coat and boots. I love my Canada Goose coat, but boy, I'm getting so tired of it. Trying to vary scarves and hats, but there is only so far this will go.

Underneath, I must wear things that are not too bulky, yet layerable. Once inside a place, I never know how warm or even hot it will be. I miss wearing my booties outside the most.

Suz, toddlers toys LOL!

Wow - fantastic replies ladies!

It sounds like all of us have the potential to get sick of the clothing for our dominant season, whether that be hot or cold.

And Spiffy - I completely HEAR YOU about the salt problem....aaaahhh....don't rub against the car.....

I think for me it's not so much about wanting to get into the spring clothing, it's about wanting more variety for the winter clothing, if you know what I mean. Right now there doesn't seem to be much point in buying transitional pieces since we still have two hard months of winter here. So what I want/need are a few more true winter pieces that can extend my winter wardrobe for a while longer. So I went shopping for just that....see my other thread if you're interested in what I bought.

I already know I'm going to plan better for next fall/winter with a larger wardrobe.

Totally know what you mean. Although I would say I wear my winter clothing from mid September through to the end of April. xD

I found that I'm not getting too bored at the moment with my winter things, and I think it's because I'm exploring spring colours-- I've been wearing a lot of grey and mint lately, with some dusty rose thrown in. But the items I've been wearing have been winter ones-- fleecy grey leggings, chunky mint turtleneck, etc. I'm also having fun with attempting to tie my scarves in different ways. xD

Heh. I have another 4 months to go. Am occupying myself by combing and recombing through my closet culling orphans and spring/summerwear. It is tedious but this is my main season (9 months!) and I don't feel guilty about purchasing for it - though I am still doing the 12x12.

Yup I certainly do! What I try to do to get out of the blah winter clothes funk is find colors that help remind me of the great weather in spring and summer. right now im loving the color mint. its so soft yet is easily transitional to wear in both the winter and spring. by adding a pop of mint to my wardrobe whether in buying a top, dress, shoes, etc. I have a little of spring color in my typical grey and black winter colors. I also go out and shop the latest spring/summer and or resort wear in accessories. Getting a bright orange necklace or bright blue earrings adds a little pop of color that can carry me into the coming seasons!

Winter has been bizarre here so far. So up and down. Mostly quite mild with little snow -- and then flashes of DEEP freeze and major snowstorms! But I got to wear my booties into December (and even the other day).

Even so, yeah, I'm a bit tired of y regular clothes.

My solution is going to be a true seasonal rotation. And instead of 4 seasons, I'm saying we have at least 6. And I'm literally going to rotate clothes OUT of and INTO the closet to mark the change. I've already started this process (in the fall/ winter) but it's not complete because I still have a lot of wardrobe holes. It is working pretty well so far, though.

I don't know if I will choose 33 pieces or how many (that seems a bit arbitrary) but at any rate, I'm going to pick some reasonably small number -- maybe 40, not counting accessories, formal wear, workout wear, coats, or appearance-wear. Just for everyday smart casual and casual clothes.

There will be some overlap between seasons, for example my fuchsia knit jacket is an early fall, late fall, winter, early spring, spring piece. But some pieces will be JUST for their six week season, e.g. my summery linens, my thicker wool blazers and pants. Or at most they might overlap two sub-seasons.

Not sure if I am making sense, but basically, it's the same idea as rotating a toddler's toys! I will play with what's in the closet till I get bored and then switch seasons!

What I'm most sick of is THE SALT!! this time of year, road salt dust is on everything cars go anywhere near. The cold doesn't get to me as much as getting it on my clothing every. single. time I get out or go in my car, move near other cars, touch outdoor railings, brush against the side of a buliding.

Oh, just a little tired of it here . . . We actually had a mild, fairly snowless fall and I was able to wear any footwear I wanted thru November. That helped.

But I'm ready to transition to spring. I have a few brighter color sweaters that don't feel right in Nov/Dec/Jan, but start to feel right come February -- about right now. So, I'll probably be selecting those now. However, it is still COLD andit has to be sweaters until April-ish.

I remember talk about lighter color boots/booties for spring too. It can seem frivolous to have basically two sets of winter clothes (early winter and late winter), but I find it helps A LOT with the seasonal fatigue. (Love that terminology and it can be applied to so many aspects of winters!)

One thing I tire of quickly is just having to put on a coat, scarf, and gloves, and consider boots every time!! I miss simply grabbing my purse and heading out the door. . .

I'm with you, Shannon! I think I struggle more than some, just because I like change and variety in general --- not just in clothes. Since I tend to run warm, I've focused more on layers, and own fewer heavy sweaters, for example, than many in my area. I consider my dominant season "transitional." I just purchased a scarf, the Caslon denim shirt from Nordrstrom, and a Bobeau midi skirt on clearance to kind of pick myself up a bit. I'll wear these until may, and use them to transition to fall colors when I'm sick of summer!

I also am trying to find creative remixes in my closet, since I'm saving up for a spring and summer!

Here too, winter lasts forever! I love my winter wardrobe, sweaters especially. What I'm beyond tired of are my parkas and boots. It is too cold most days for a wool coat alone. I'm craving my shoes, I cannot wait to break them out.

I did my spring shopping last week and most of it won't see the light of day for at least a couple months. It was so refreshing to try on sleeveless blouses, light jackets and such. And I bought a pair of shoes that just personify spring, that I will just have to stare at longingly for now.

It's interesting because mostly we just judge our clothing by their reflections. (not counting folks who post outfits) If you're in outerwear day in and day out (same old, same old, no matter how gorgeous the fabrication) I'd say to get one new piece of headgear and scarf in some eyecatching color(s) that you love to see. Your eye will go to them first if you put them on looking in a mirror or catch a glimpse of yourself in a store window. And then get
another pair.

I use graphic patterns. I have a snow leopard pillbox-y type sleek faux fur hat and I pair that with a heavy, flat woven muffler that lays there and I don't tie it. It is white with a pattern of chocolate and black blocks and has fringed ends in those 3 colors. I sometimes catch the middle of the scarf with the tie belt of a jacket or coat.

I get compliments every single time I wear this and the thought occurred to me that despite my many coats of every weight possible, might as well wear one only because everybody just gets bowled over by this combo (even guys) and me too.

Our winter was so unusually mild this year so I did not even get to wear my puffer and snow boots more than a handful of times. This is why I usually get tired of winter: when I have to wear snow boots everyday and they limit my outfit choices or I have to bring shoes with me to work. Not this year though!
But I agree with Angie: if your winter lasts for 6 months it is definitely your VERY dominant season and you should give yourself as much variety as possible to kepp boredom away. Winter weight tops in cheerful colors sound like a good idea!

We don't have long, cold winters in Vancouver, but we do get A LOT of gray skies and wet weather. Eventually everyone gets the rainy day blahs!

I am looking forward to spring, too. It's not so much the winter clothes that annoy me, as they offer lots of opportunities to layer, and I like that. It's that I'm desperate to wear lighter shoes with sockless feet. And that's not going to happen for months!

Sometimes a new piece, something you've never owned before, can help. For example, I was at J. Crew recently during their January sale, and picked up a fine-gauge navy blue merino sweater for about $30. It was an experiment. I love wool, but it can bother my skin. But I thought, for $30, let's give it a try. It's great! It's soft and very stretchy, so it can comfortably be layered over a white or pinstripe button-front without making me feel stiff and bulky. And I can wear it on its own, and it has nice drape. It turns out that it goes with just about everything in my wardrobe. I've never had a sweater like that, and honestly don't think I've worn a sweater of any kind in a decade. I've had such fun playing with it. So yes, if you're going to shop or thrift something, why not try something you've never worn before? Might infuse a little fun into the remainder of the Winnipeg winter...which isn't going to end anytime soon.

I would analyze your style and what is drawing you into spring. Is it the patterns? Colors? Styles? Can you winterized any of these? If not, can you find similar colors and styles in winter fabrications?

I live in Wisconsin, so i understand your pain! we won't see spring until May. Trees won't even have leaves until then. I understand your boredom, but at the same time, we have four months or less to wear spring/summer clothes. Spring in really hard by me because once summer hits, it regularly gets into the 90s with humidity. So I usually avoid spring purchases as I can maybe wear them 3-4 weeks out of the year. It sounds like it is similar by you.

As some one on a weight loss journey, I highly caution against buying items if you are expecting to change sizes as you may predict wrong. I will add I did better doing this with tops than bottoms.

I think you could add some layering pieces that could work for upcoming spring as well as right now. The accessories such as bright scarfs could do double duty as well. i was at the mall yesterday looking at what Spring fashions were coming in and their were a lot of beautiful gauzy scarfs.

I hit this last week, too! It's not so much that I'm sick of my clothes, just that I've lost outfit inspiration. Up until last week I'd walk into my closet with my mind whirling with choices and now suddenly nothing! Here's the thread I started where some YLFers helped me with some ideas:

Well no, but to be fair I've been so sick the last week with a head cold that I've mostly been in sleepwear or loungewear. I *was* getting tired of wearing that! And you know I suffer from the reverse with our super-long summers. Last year I had pretty good success creating my own artificial spring and fall with a change of colors even though the weights and fabrics I was wearing stayed pretty much the same. It helped to break up the months psychologically for me.
