Astrid, I'm a little late to the party, but I think they look great on you!

My initial discomfort with skinnies was helped by wearing them tucked into boots. I've always felt like the visual weight of the boots helps balance out my pear tendencies. Gradually I got accustomed to seeing myself in the skinnies silhouette and branched out into wearing them with flats, sandals, wedges, etc. I do have one or two pairs of very skinny skinnies that I will only wear tucked into boots, but I think the straighter skinnies work well with all kinds of shoes.

Wear and enjoy!

Thank you all! I'm feeling a lot better about wearing them out and about now. :)

Denise, thanks so much for this suggestion! I agree that tunics can be leg shortening, especially because I don't wear heels. I'd love to find a top like this, I'll be trying the semi tucking in any case.

Here's a suggestion: Just walk out the door in them and never look back! You look absolutely fabulous in them!!!!

Srsly, if you can just get yourself used to them you might like them. It's a new silhouette and a new feeling (I had the same thing when I first wore a skirt a bit above my kneecap) and I really, really hope you'll try to wear these, even with shorter tops, because you look THAT good.

I can't read all the responses, but it looks like you've got a lot of encouragement to keep them, I just wanted to chime in and say they look absolutely fantastic on you. Also, as a fellow pear, I completely understand feeling a bit self-contentious, but trust me that is just the initial feeling that will pass as soon as you fully discover the wonderful wardrobe addition great skinnies are. When I started wearing mine, all I wanted to wear them with were tunics. But over time, I got over that and they are now my wardrobe staple (I said in my post the other day that I could downsize my entire wardrobe at the moment to skinnies + extras).

Suggestion - if you have longer denim shirt, you can try denim on denim formula, with fun tops worn underneath and/or one of your lovely scarves. Or, try them with cascading cardigan - that's my FFBO

I am an hourglass with secondary pear, so my most common fit issue is -- too big in the waist, too tight in the thighs (not so much my hips or rear). I stayed away from skinny jeans for a while for this reason. I agree tunics are great but they can be leg shortening. So, my personal favorite type of top with skinnies is the sharkbite. The sides come down long at the sides to slim my thighs while the front is shorter, to lengthen the leg. Or, I will tuck just the front of the top and create a sharkbite shape through semi tucking.

Astrid I did not read your post carefully before I looked at the pictures and honestly think these jeans look great on you. I did not notice any pocket placement issue. They would also work with tunics if you prefer, and look fab with your oxfords.

These can definitely work for you Astrid and look fab already. Length and fit is perfect IMO. Like Suz said, try tucking them into boots and with a long tunic for fall/winter and you may fall in love with skinnies.

Astrid, please keep these. They look great. I'm a little anxious about my hips in my skinnies, too. Yet, I generally wear them with longer tops and feel fab in them. In an earlier post you asked about batwing tops. I LOvE the look. I could see these pants with a batwing top and knee-length boots or booties being so fab.

Thank you all for your encouragement! I wasn't that sure about them but now I really want to make them work and I'm sure I will.

Lemonade, you're right. I should really try to make them work, I'm sure she'll be happy when she sees me wearing them! She liked the way they looked too. I've lost some weight since last year, but I'm always fluctuating quite a bit. I'm not sure, but I think it might be the jeans or pics?

Christieanne, I would definitely be more comfortable with a longer top.

Meredith, I really like the idea of flowy boho tops with a vest, besides the tunics and short dresses.

Suz, I guess that will be the way I'll wear them most.

Jonesy, it's reassuring that you only noticed the pocket placement issue after I told, maybe it's not that big an issue then.

Wow, I think they fit really well, and look super-cute! I didn't notice the pocket placement issue until you mentioned it. I do see what you mean (I don't like that sort of pocket placement myself) but overall I think they still look really cute on you. Agree with the others that longer tops (even ones covering your rear--don't have to be tunic length, but those would be cute) will be awesome. Great score, I say!

I like them and they will be great to wear tucked into boots in the winter and even now with cute flats. They may be outside your comfort zone but I think they look great and for free you definitely should be experimenting. Short dresses, longer tunics, boho tops that are all flowy with little vests layered over them would all work!

I think they work but a longer top would make the proportions better for you (it is an eye adjusting thing I think - the skinny jean) and make you more comfy. It's a nice classic denim wash.

I think those look great on you, Astrid. You are right about the pocket placement, it looks a bit strange on you, but nothing to worry about, I've seen much worse.

You got these for free, and you would maybe hurt your friend's feelings if she learnt you had given them away, so it won't hurt to try hard to make them work.

Try them with tunics and long blousons, boots.

Personally, I think they look fine with the short top you are wearing, but I like skinnies with shorter tops and I know this is not a favourite pairing in this forums.

PS: Also, maybe it's me, but it looks like your legs are a bit thinner than what they used to be? Or maybe it's the jeans making them look slimmer, I have no clue about that, but you certainly don`t look like an extreme pear-shape to me.

Thanks Manidipa! Yes, I'll keep them and try to play around with them a bit. I like the idea of a trapeze-style top or a smock, but I don't have either. I'm still lacking tops full stop. Most my tops were still bought when I only wore skirts and are shorter to work with skirts, and tight enough so that I'm able to tuck them. I guess I'm having enough bottoms right now, but no tops. I have the plaid button down you can see below with the pink skinnies, but it's not that long either. I haven't worn these much either. It's not so much the hips than my bum.

Thanks Diana! I will leave the length as it is then. I think layering with them in fall is a good idea. I could see myself tucking these into boots and wearing them with a longer top, I like that look a lot!

Thanks Kirti! I think I'll keep them, even if I maybe won't wear them immediately.

ETA
Thanks KL! You're right, there are certainly enough mini dresses out there in the stores at the moment! The sales are beginning just now, maybe I should try to find one or two short dresses that look good with these and the pink skinnies.

They look good to me, and they have a little scrunch at the bottom which in my opinion makes skinnies easier to wear for us pears. But I understand if you are not totally comfortable in skinnies. In winter, they're great for wearing tucked into tall boots with tunic-length tops. I also sometimes wear my skinnies and jeggings under short dresses when it is too cold to wear them with leggings. I actually have a couple of "dresses" that are too short to be worn without pants underneath!

I'd suggest giving them a good hard try before you decide --- I personally think they're a great fit and very flattering on you! Wish I wore skinnies that well!

But if you're feeling iffy or self-conscious that doesn't work no matter who thinks what... so---how about a swingy trapeze-style top, or a smock? Tunics when you can get them, but do you have a longer button-down you usually tuck that could skim over the hip (is that the bit that concerns you?)

I'm not a skinny jeans girl at all, so I wouldn't ever have bought these for myself. They are hand-me-downs from a friend I helped with a closet purge. She lost some weight and they were way too big on her now. She urged me to try them on and to keep them and I didn't want to be rude, so I took them home with me.

Is there a way to make them work? With tunic tops maybe? I don't have any, but I guess I could keep the skinnies until I do. I know that the top I wear here is too short with them and I think I'd prefer it if the top were more covering. I don't like the placement of the back pockets, they're not really flattering on me - too wide apart. What about the length? I rolled them up a bit in #3, should I shorten them?

And idea about styling? I guess I could always wear them while layering in fall.

Or should I pass them on (hopefully without her knowing)?
