Diana, tnat's a great idea! You can get colored stretch elastic at Michaels and probably Walmart. It might even be with the children's crafts like friendship bracelets.

that's it! run a few pieces of elastic thread from the links on one side of the clasp to the links on the other--then find yarn or embroidery floss of a similar shade of blue to wrap around the elastic thread. probably will take a bit of finessing to find the right tension for the elastic.

This bracelet was dirt cheap, so it is either DIY or nothing! Kelly, the duct tape might work but I think I would have to replace it every time I take the bracelet off... one of the reasons I like it is because it's actually small enough to not fall off my hand when closed (this is a problem with me and bracelets since I have small hands and wrists) but unfortunately it means I have to actually use the closure. Otherwise I'd just glue the whole darn thing shut!

ETA: Just had a thought that maybe I could secure it with something elastic. Then I wouldn't have to open it to put it on. I wonder if I can find something that matches the blue... Has anyone done anything like this successfully?

wow! great bracelet. did you modify it with the yarn?

because i am funding challenged, and the jewelry i wear is from the thrift store--i would secure it with a small piece of duct tape running the whole length of the back of the two bars, or wrap the clasp in a few places with matching yarn. if you paid real money for it, and love it, a jeweler might be a worthwhile investment.

I have a similar bracelet that does that too. I like yours though.

I'd take it to an independent jeweler who does repairs onsite, or goldsmith, and see what they would suggest. I had a bracelet which had a clasp that kept opening. My local goldsmith soldered a tiny gold pin and holder thingy that worked perfectly to keep the clasp closed. His charge was quite reasonable considering that he used gold for the safety clasp. I'm sure that he would have other metals that would have worked if I wanted to spend less $$.

The bracelet I'm wearing today is a big, heavy, multi-chain thing with a large bar-shaped magnetic clasp (see the photo). On the way to work this morning it popped off three times, so I gave up and stuck it in my bag. I think it's unwearable unless I figure out some way to fix the closure. Because of its shape I can't just replace it altogether with a ring or claw clasp. Anyone have any tricks for getting this to stay closed?

Interestingly enough the bracelet I wore yesterday also had a magnetic clasp and it stayed on fine, but it was lighter, smaller, and a hinged bangle.

(Am just having one of those wardrobe malfunctioning days today. In addition to the bracelet, my top keeps slipping so you can see my bra (it's behind a lace overlay, but still a bit too risque for work!) and my skirt is twirling like a ballerina. Sigh...)
