Kyle, this is so amazing! I agree with Jane on the Scandinavian feel. Thank you for sharing.

I’ve done a few small quilts and wall hangings, and have a baby quilt designed and ready to start... any day now! (Good thing the baby isn’t due until October!)

We also have two contemporary quilt art pieces hanging in our home. They are prized possessions.

You're a talented lot Quilting intimidates me! I did sew this little skirt-with a lot of help-but no big projects like that.

I love your fresh modern wall quilt. It looks fabulous behind your console and sculpture. Good work!

I’m a quilter. I have sewed since I was a young teenager. I made a few quilts back in the late 80s, but didn’t enjoy the template cutting or hand quilting.

My sister reintroduced me to quilting ten years ago, and I got a long arm quilting machine. I’ve made 10-20 quilts in various sizes each year since then. I don’t do quilting for hire. My daughters and a couple of friends have used my machine.

Here are three recent quilts. The first is lap size. The second is bed size, for my mother-in-law’s birthday, and the third is bed size, for a wedding gift this past winter. These are more simple than most, but fast and I like working with a scrappy prints theme.

Love your wall hanging. I have made quilts off and on since I was in high school (quite a while ago :))but lately am into knitting as my creative outlet. I always hand sewed them because it was my TV watching activity. They took a while but were very satisfying.

Gorgeous! I took quilting classes in the early 90s and made some small wall hangings. I gave them away when I moved. I still have some partially made quilts in a box somewhere.

This past winter the ladies in our church helped a blanket-making organization in our community. These blankets are collected by a group called ‘Faith Mission’ and they are distributed in Eastern Europe. I believe right now most are going to the Ukraine.
The challenging (and interesting!) part of this project is the source of the squares we sew together. Our local thrift shop is extremely thrifty! They sell what they can locally, they bale and ship what does not sell to the same place they ship these blankets. But... whatever is not fit to sell or ship (because of stains or needing extensive repair) they cut up into squares. The neat thing is that this cutting is done in large part by older people who are shut in and in seniors homes. Someone takes the time to draw the squares on to the fabric and then they are scissor cut. This is where the ‘interesting’ part comes in, the squares are not always cut quite according to the template drawn on:-) This can make sewing them together and keeping things lined up quite challenging. I am so impressed by this ‘business’ model. Another thing is, there are many random squares and you may or may not have enough of one colour or pattern to do a decent pattern. Planning them is quite a feat.
I took on a bit of a challenging aspect of this project by taking home squares that were too thin and fragile to be used on their own. These are sewn on to strips of old sheets and then the strips are sewn together. It is more time consuming and very tricky to get them to line up nicely. I had to learn to be okay with ‘good enough’. I am not a quilter but I am a bit fussy when it comes to sewing.
I ended up making 52 of these tops. Once I was done with them they went to the next group who layered a sheet between and sewed on a fleece backing. Quite a process but the result is a nice heavy blanket!
Here are some samples of the tops I completed:

ETA: you’ve done an excellent job with your wall hanging! The design is subtle but eye catching. I can appreciate what goes into a project like that, I have several friends who are avid quilters. I admire their work but do not attempt it at this point. The way you have quilted the piece really adds to the overall appearance, quilting just adds so much!

That is gorgeous! Congrats on a FFO, and such a wonderful design.

My mom is a major quilter. I'm more of a piecer so when the kids were little I would make the tops and then send on to mom for finishing.

These days I"m more into cross stitch. Goes with my interest in the design, but can finalize the entire process. Most of what I'm doing are more detailed designs, but here's a simple piece I did for DD as she was leaving for college last fall.
