I really like the KUT for you, too, Peri. If you have free delivery and returns, why not try it on at least? It will give you a sense of things... a beginning.

Also, check for mid-season sales on the Vince. I'm not sure when your wedding is, but you might get very lucky. That dress would be great on you.

I agree with Una's assessment. The Tahari dress you love is best on an hourglass.

The KUT looks great, as does the Eliza & Kenzie.

Another shift dress that is also a floral is this one:

Alaskagirl, yes of course I love the pricey one the best, that's what I always do! Because of, or in spite, I'm never quite sure. Thanks for the other Finds and the heads up about the Eliza J's. And reviews say something similar about the Tahari. I'm just drooling over the color. I wish the Kooples you found was about 4 inches longer!

Isabel, it's the Kut one I like the best. Maybe more Fall-like choices will start popping up in September.

At least now I have a shape to search for, that's a small amount of progress.

Perri, you and I have some really similar styles we like, and I am well traveled on the road of shift dresses. So here's my assessment - go for a TRUE shift dress. They work great on broad shoulders and I find the voluminous shape more flattering than a straight up and down narrower look. The Eliza J. dresses are kind of fitted shifts, and I find the necklines too high (yes, I've tried them and also the Maggie London ones which are similar). The Tahari is going to be a little fit and flare IMHO.

I've attached some finds below - the Erdem is unaffordable but these should give you an idea of the style I'm suggesting!

The Tahari, which might be fantastic, and the Kensie, alo maybe great, seem like they might be the easiest choices. The Kut from the Kloth is more floral than I'd like for fall, the Felicity and Coco looks too casual, the Eliza J might be okay but it might be too much of a retro statement?

I can't say I totally love the WHBM so I'm not sorry you didn't choose that. I'm not against black for wedding guests but I don't think I love the style for a wedding, it looks more like a cocktail dress.

Okay, completely redundant quote of the day: "Angie was right". There should be a board icon we could hit that just says that so we wouldn't have to type it ever again.

She told me I should be looking at shift styles and I should try on the now fabled Vince dress and I just didn't. It didn't bowl me over and it was more than I wanted to pay without being true love. Except, now I think I might have really liked it. Because I tried on the first shift style dress I've ever had on and liked it way better than anything in my two year long dress search focused on fit and flares and sheaths. That is the first Find below, the WHBM black one. Okay, future search will focus on shifts.

I didn't buy the WHBM...yet...because I was thinking of color. Specifically, this is for a Fall wedding. So, any of the others worth trying for me? I like one specifically, but I'll hold off saying which one. And I'm still open to the WHBM, but I can't wear heels and I'm concerned it is a heel kind of dress. I need a dress that will not look too bad with flats.

Super open to other ideas too! V neck is fantastic, but you'll notice only one of my finds has it.
