Sterling - 8 & 9 are the same.

Toban - I’m not saying I don’t open a jacket to sit etc, just that I won’t buy a jacket that can’t look good closed. Often by the time it’s fitting my shoulders there’s so much fabric on the sides that it’s unflattering open.

I’m totally open to a different style. In fact, I’d prefer it. I just haven’t found it now that I’m looking. I may need to broaden my scope, but I’m starting with places where I can return locally if I order online. I like the jacket you show. Now if I could find it here in a different color (again, so hard to match Navy’s) and lighter weight for summer, maybe with 3/4 sleeves. That’s not asking too much, right?

I would find the fit that looks great open. I never see a woman’s (or man’s, for that matter) buttoned during interview. That said, the two button blazer is looking the best of the lot when buttoned. Since you aren’t necessarily looking for a matching suit, perhaps try different blazer cuts and necklines. I was surprised how much I like the one below. I was also finding it difficult to get button placement right on a blazer so I went a different direction. I got this one in Canada, so providing it more for inspiration.

I agree with Staysfit. Finding the right fitting blazer is challenging. I am somewhat relieved that I don't have to shop for a blazer at this exact moment.

The two navy blazers look better compared to the WHBM blazers. I think number 8 fits you better than number 9, but that could be your stance.

Totally agree Rachy. Now I’ve figured out the problem I need to find some other styles jackets to try instead. Also, I’d love to find something more summery. A tough combo.

Staysfit - yes, I’m completely open to tailoring, but need the right starting garment. I would really like a blazer that doesn’t make a matching suit as a way to be presentable but not overdressed for some places. What I wore (black blazer and pant - including finds) works for when I need dressier. I was thinking of a color like the finds, but it’s awfully tough to find in stores. You know I like my blues.

Delurked, I think getting a good fit in a blazer is THE most difficult task with ready to wear clothing. I constantly try on blazers, jackets and coats because they are so hard to find. If I find something close, I bring it to the tailor to perfect the fit. I look at blazers all the time, even when they are not on my shopping list, because finding one is like finding a real diamond in a Herkimer Mine. DD would say that finding shoes is the most difficult task, whereas, I generally fit shoes without much trouble. All I can say is I hope you find what you are looking for within the time frame before your interviews. If not, I have seen your pictures, and the blazers you already own fit nicely and should be fine. I recently looked over Angie’s advice for what to wear for a job interview, and if I remember correctly, you want to be neat, polished, and presentable, but the focus should be on you not your clothes. A pop of fuschia would work under one of your current blazers.

Donna - the moto jacket in pic 7 is Calvin Klein.

I haven’t had much success at Talbots because everything seems so short through the torso there. I’ve actually thought that in past of WHBM too, but I may be near one in the next week and could take a look.

Joy - if I wear them open they have to be more fitted than the ones above. I did that with my other blazer I wore last week.

I’m added pics of a Calvin Klein two button jacket I tried. It wasn’t a perfect fit, but maybe closer to what I need.

This is simply a guess from decades old experience, but have you ever tried Talbots?

I want to be able to wear buttoned. TBH, none of them make me feel very good, and I don’t think I’m keeping any. Sigh. I will change the criteria of what I look for in a future jacket search. It’s got to come together higher on my torso. I don’t want to keep anything I’m meh about. I’d rather use my current jacket, and see if I want to change the shell under it. I would love a pop of fuchsia, Sterling’s favorite color.

I like the second jacket the best. Also asking whether you would wear them buttoned. It would be good to assess them unbuttoned, particularly if that’s the way you would wear them.

I think the blazer that you own fits you best. The others don’t seem to flatter your lovely figure. Blazers are very hard to fit. I am looking for a dark grey to replace the one that they botched in the alterations but I have not had luck with that so far. Maybe something will show up at NAS.

Would you wear them buttoned? If no, try steaming before making your final decision. I have similar fit problems with blazers — which is one reason I avoid the exhausting search for one that works with my body type.

I like number 1 the best based on these pictures.

I like number 6, but it looks like there is some pulling across the front. The second one does not look good because there is some wrinkling that makes the front lay funny. It might look great if it were ironed.

I understand you can't size down. I would suggest either number 1 or number 7 (based on these pictures).

Thanks Katerina and SarahD8

I think you are right that I need perhaps a two button jacket. Something that begins in the middle of my chest and not so low. TBH, my shape has changed and what used to work now does not. I’m having a hard time finding good options that I like.

I thought the 2nd jacket might do the trick. I didn’t even see that it had a button in the pics. I think I expected it to zip, which could be an option to try too.

I’ve also considered other kiss front jackets (a term I’d never seen before) that don’t button in front, but I’d have to be careful to avoid boxy for that style. It might show enough shape.

I wonder if you would have better luck with jacket styles with a higher stance (button hits higher on the torso)?
