San, I don't know if I'm the best judge of quality. I have heard a few people from YLF complain about their quality, but I'm not sure why or what pieces they were referring to so I can't say for sure what the specific issues were. They stock many different brands, both their own "house" brands and others like Sweet Pea and Joe's Jeans, and I am drawn to some more than others. I can totally see you liking Leifsdottir (which is sold outside of Anthro). Among their store-specific brands, I really like Odille, Elevenses, Ett Twa, and Idra. I'm not such a big fan of Moth, which tends to make a lot of shabby knits.

The biggest complaint I hear about Anthro is that it is too expensive for such casual clothing, but I don't think that is a fair statement. If you wear casual clothing most of the time, and you have the money, why not spend more on it? You'll be living in it every day. For me, investing in a suit would be a tragic waste of money, but investing in a gorgeous artsy blouse and a great pair of jeans would be an investment. People have different needs and lifestyles. I think a lot of other stores already have "smart" and sophisticated clothes covered, so it's nice that Anthropologie filled a gap.

I don't have a lot of clothes from them because they are so expensive, but what I do have has held up significantly longer than most of my other cheaper clothes. The blazer I wore to the YLF convention was purchased in 2005 and still looks great and gets softer each time I wear it. Unfortunately it does not close over the bust so I can't wear it anymore, but I keep it around just in case my dream comes true and my bust shrinks someday. Four years probably doesn't seem like a lot to you, but it's like dog years for me :)

I don't know. I don't find them particularly better or worse than any other store. Their knits are overpriced for the quality, but so too are knits from BR, J Crew, Ann Taylor, and most other stores. As with all stores, but especially so for Anthrpologie, you're paying for the design. You can definitely find cheaper knits at the Gap or Old Navy, but they aren't going to have the quirks and subtle details of the ones you'll find at Anthro.

I would be very afraid to work at Anthro!! Just kidding ofcourse, and refferring to the fact that so much of the pay check would probably go straight back to them. Their clothing is just so interesting. Is the quality good?

Oh! I didn’t open the link you posted, Maya. Those outfits *are* arty. Not boho! Which skirt did you wear to your Anthro interview?

If Marianna's jeans are trouser-y and smart, I think they'll be fine for the Anthro interview because it's a fashion interview for a sales position. But Marianna is shopping today so she might come with something else :0)

I think those outfits I linked to are VERY arty Angie. Not boho at all. I just don't get that vibe from the store or from the catalog the way I do when I get the Free People catalog. I could easily do some damage at Anthro with $1000, but I would have a pretty hard time making a dent at Free People.

I do see individual boho pieces, especially some of the blouses, but they tend to have more structure built into them and less of a gauzy flowiness that I associate with boho. Other than that, I just do not get the same feeling from them as I do from Free People, and it makes sense to me for them to be different, otherwise it would be rather redundant to have hippie chic stores with similar price ranges.

BTW Marianna, this may go without saying, but I would recommend doing some research on the company. I was surprised that two of the girls really had a hard time explaining the typical Anthro customer.

I would not wear jeans. Yes it's casual, and yes, jeans can be dressed up, but you don't want to go on an interview like that when everyone else will likely be in girly skirts. If you go with the black slacks, you can still pump them up with accessories. They are a blank canvas. I agree with Shiny on experimenting with mixing prints. But I guess we'll see what you come home with today!

I guess my perception is different Maya and Shiny! I was in Anthro with a client on Friday and the merchandise still looks bohemian to my eye. But it’s also all the things you’ve mentioned as well. Casual, whimsical, playful, very girly, and a little arty.

Marianna, I think your dark black jag jeans are a great idea. So is your new brown leather jacket. How about a sweet pea top? They sell a lot of those at Anthro. Or a floral top? Plain top and casual cotton scarf? You have lots of options! Don’t worry :0)

Do you think I could wear black jeans to an Anthro interview (they're nice dark Jag jeans)? I'm not sure I want to wear those conservative trousers. I'm sort of unsure of both outfit options now after sleeping on it. I'm going interview outfit shopping today and am purposely traveling to a far away mall that has a Faith 21 (Forever 21's fat girl line) to see if I can find something more trendy and more "Anthro" to wear tomorrow.

I like all your suggestions. Shiny, I do have plenty of scarves to pick from. I like that idea. I need to think about it. I know I'm not crazy about either option at the moment. I also have loads of accessories that I could add to those outfits. I'm just not as creative as all of you. Thanks for getting my ideas flowing.

Now you've got me wanting a trip to Anthro! I don't know why their stuff appeals to me.

I am browsing through the tops and jackets, and I see a fair amount with dolman sleeves like the first top... which I also noticed when I was in there about a month ago... so I think that is why the first top jumped out at me as more of an Anthro top than the second.

I agree with Maya. I don't really see boho with Anthropologie either. In addition to artistic, I always think of Anthro as having a feminine, girly bent. Emphasis on the waist, flower details, etc.

They usually have some black+white+pop of color options too. So I vote for the banded shirt (because it emphasizes your waist and is black and white)- BUT I'd swap shoes, wear those cute pink suede flats with it.

Do you have a patterned scarf? They do the pattern mixing thing a lot. I could see you adding a patterned floral scarf to the first outfit...

If you go with the ruffly plaid blouse, I'm not sure those are Anthro colors... hmm. Those cute shoes totally are. I would add a white cardigan or jacket if you have one. Lighten it up. Or white denim jeans instead of black slacks? Or ... yellow cardigan would look awesome.

Marianna, I don't think you necessarily need to go down the boho route. I think artsy is a better word. Before my interview, I looked at the outfits on their website for inspiration, and I really didn't find them very boho in feeling. I get the sense that Anthro sells a lot of individual boho pieces but for the most part, when I see complete outfits, I see an artistic flair more than I see boho. Boho is something I associate a lot more with Free People and Lucky.

http://www.anthropologie.com/a.....eptOutfits

Of course those outfits are pretty extreme but you might get some ideas regarding texture and color. Also keep in mind that you can totally wear a dress. You don't have to wear separates.

I really like the second outfit for the Anthro interview, Marianna! Now you have to make it look a little more boho and earthy. Have a handbag like that? Your brown leather jacket maybe?

The second one has a bit of an Urban Outfitters vibe to it with the plaid and the zippered flats, which I think would work just as well. Do you have a bag that could add to the Anthro look? Or any accessories? That might be all you need. You don't want to look like you're trying TOO hard. I did not take a picture of it, but I went with a yellow vintage frame bag with a funky lining (ok, no one could see the lining, but it's a sweet bag anyway).

The first top doesn't really wow me as much. It's a little short and I like the neckline of the second one more.

Like Maya, I am going to go to an Anthropologie open interview. Mine is on Monday and I'm not sure what to wear. I own a couple Anthro tops but they're too small at the moment. I also don't own any skirts... my closet is basically jeans and these "interview" slacks.

Would either of these options work for an Anthro interview?

1) http://i985.photobucket.com/al.....G_1637.jpg
2) http://i985.photobucket.com/al.....G_1628.jpg

I know neither are necessarily super "Anthro" but I don't have too much else in my closet that I think would be retail interview appropriate.

I am going to the mall tomorrow to search for a suit for other interviews so I may look for something more "Anthro" while I'm at it.
