Cheryl, she IS amazing at putting stuff together ! Whoever "she" may be.

I usually have about 80% of what is listed and I am going back to some it as I start over....but I just have no need or desire for a turtleneck, for example. These things, for me, are always great starting points.

Thank you Laura, I just love lists! I like how comprehensive this one was. I used to feel bad because I didn't have everything on a list, but now I just use them to see what I really need that I may have forgotten about. I need to make my OWN list for SAHM's in a hot climate....then I can tick the boxes of all of my own customized choices.....ahhhhh!

FWIW, I couldn't get the pages "print" button to work, but I used the "file" "print" option on Firefox and it printed fine.

Great list! Of course I don't agree with it 100%, but I'm a list lover and find these things inspiring.

Mamapicklejuice, you might try copying and pasting the writing onto a document in Word or in your email program. Then print from there.

I like reading lists like that but, like others, I find that a lot of items on the list I either don't need or don't want because they are not the most flattering or versatile for me. It is actually quite instructive to read the list and then see what works or does not work for individual styles.

For example, they use a lot of neutral colors for the list (white, black etc.) but for me bright colors work better. So I don't need more than one white shirt (which I have), whereas the list has two shirts + white blouse. I would also not get a black turtleneck. Most knits on the list (black tank, white and black t-shirts etc.) are not bad to have but I find that thin knits is general, especially in solid colors, are not the most versatile items for an apple.

Anyway, it's always interesting to look at these lists. Thanks, Laura!

Laura, have you ever checked out http://www.theviviennefiles.com ? I really like her idea of the crazy 8s, where she picks 8 pieces as the core for a small wardrobe. She has several examples on her site.

A very interesting and thought-provoking list, Rhubarbgirl, thanks for posting it.
I counted 24 items in the list that I do not own - and incidentally, would never wish to own - mainly because they would look so unflattering on me. It all goes to show how a list of "basics" will still strongly reflect the writer's shape and personal style.

I just ran across this post from Real Simple which is a wardrobe essentials list - but a much more realistic one than most, with seasonal variations. I think this could be a really helpful tool for anyone who's rebuilding their wardrobe, or needs to evaluate where they are and what they need. I don't agree with 100% of the items but most seem spot on.
