Thanks Shannon! Yes, I also think this was really helpful.

Maybe you can think of it that way: you use the first board to decide which items might be some good buys for essentials that end up wardrobe workhorses and then use your second board to see how you can dip your toes in some of the looks you pinned there.

Finally had a chance to look at your boards Astrid and now I know I have to do the same thing and split them into what I would wear and what I like to look at.

I see what the others have pointed out - your style is more feminine, more scarves, slightly softer, less structured and the other board is definitely more masculine, more structure (I see more strong shouldered blazers), more urban.

Great boards BTW!

Thanks L'Abeille. Yes, I know which post you mean. And great idea with the hat! I was thinking about somehow incorporating that for a while now, I just have no idea where to start and where to find the right one (and hats from departement stores are often too small).

I don't have the wisdom to give the insightful comments others have. But looking at your "My Style" board reminded me of the comment I thought of for your recent post on "what is missing here" or "do you ever get bored"... -do you know the one I mean?

The comment I as follows is it time for you to add a hat to your look? (Not just a winter, outdoor hat.) Maybe a beret to sit atop your curls? or a cloche?

I love Aida's analysis and her list is pretty comprehensive too. I saw the same chunky sweaters on Esprit's website this month, planning to order one myself

Oh wow, awesome list! I've just seen a velvet blazer at Mango (http://shop.mango.com/DE/p0/ma.....1902795753), but I haven't tried it yet. And I know that Boden has a navy velvet blazer too, I pinned that one sometime ago. Esprit may also have one? I could see myself wearing a velvet blazer, it differs enough from the business look. And it would be nice for holiday outfits! Esprit also has many cable sweaters at the moment, I could order a few, maybe one works out. I'd also love some wool trousers, but they are almost harder to fit than shoes and that's saying something! And I've always wanted a leather jacket, but I'm not sure where to shop for quality leather here in Berlin. I think that would be one item I would splurge for, because I don't see myself duplicating in that area. As for blouses, I have two that button to the top, the wine/grey checked one with the mini ruffles and that purple geometric patterned one I bought this summer.

Based on the board, I think a few good candidates for the "second board" items are: leather jacket in a soft color, trousers in a soft wool fabrication (either wide, tapered or slouchy), high-low hem sweater in a cheerful color, semi-chunky cable crewneck sweater, a soft printed button-up blouse you could button up to the top, flat Chelsea style boot, semi-stuctured leather satchel, and a velvet blazer (though I know your blazers sometimes give you trouble for casual looks, I think you could work velvet in pretty easily).

:)

Thanks Rachylou! I think I can see why you thought of boy and girl. The second board definitely has more of a tomboy look, although I also think that many looks are still very feminine, at least to my eye. I had to look up Laura Ingalls and Nelly Olsen (I know the series, but didn't know the names), but I think it fits. I'm not quite sure why you thought of David Bowie though.

Thanks Rae. You're right about the embellishment thing, I hadn't thought of that. The reduced colors of the first board was something that caught my eye at once - lots of softness with blues, greys, jewel tones and natural leather. No neon in sight! I wonder if the contrast of country vs. a more urban vibe has something to do with my environment. I didn't grew up in the city and only lived in one since I moved here three years ago. And although I'd definitely call Berlin style urban it's still casual, same as the city.

Thanks Caro!

Thanks Aida! Love your analysis. I always have problems with affixing labels to those things I see, but what you said makes perfect sense. I agree that texture is a very important element, I think I have to pay more attention to that from now on. It's really not something I deliberately think about when I shop. Adding a few touches of urban/masculine or rugged sounds like a good idea! I agree that it should easily integrate as long as I keep the colors consistent. Also love the Oxfords, those are workhorses for sure! The only thing that makes me mad is that they are fairly beaten already after only half a year of nearly constant wear. I'm not sure if I'm walking strange, but they are so scuffed! I think I need the next pair to have thicker soles. But I won't give up on oxfords, I just love them - with everything, but especially with skirts and dresses.

Ooooh now this is interesting! I see what Rachy and Rae see. I think the split did make quite a big difference. "My style" is a bit softer, minimalist, pretty but not overly girly. "Style loves" starts to veer a bit more urban, and has a lot more masculine and rugged elements yet still retains a soft, somewhat minimalist vibe. Both are texturally rich, which I would expect And there does seem to be an underlying element of practicality to everything.

As far as what this means for your style direction, perhaps it means starting to introduce a few more masculine, urban, or rugged elements to your look. As long as it's in your very well defined color story, and is texturally rich (I think of this as a very defining element for your style), I feel like they would integrate quite easily. I'd say your brown oxfords fall into this second category, by the way. They were a GREAT addition!

First impression is that "your style" is cleaner, more classic. Less embellished. You also seem to have narrowed down your colors, which I like a lot. Also feels slightly more country vs. the "style loves" feeling a little bit more city to me.

Oh there's a big difference - yin and yang literally. 'My Style' is the girl. 'Style Loves' is the boy. Moreover, it's not just any kind of girl stuff - it's what I call "prarie house" because the frill is pretty but not ridiculous (Laura Ingalls v. Nelly Olson). Nor is it any kind of tomboy - there's David Bowie's Thin White Duke running through that board.

Yes. ;>

I decided to split my Style board (like suggested in Shannon's recent thread http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....oes-it-say) into two different boards, one called My Style and one with my Style Loves. I also pinned all the pins I 'liked' before (because they couldn't go on the style board - too out there for me) on the second board.

http://pinterest.com/ridrin/my-style/

http://pinterest.com/ridrin/style-loves/

A while ago I wondered about my style goals/definition and posted a link to my Pinterest board for visuals, here's the thread:

http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....e-to-focus

Would you say splitting this up changes something? And most important, what - if anything - does the second board mean for my style goals?

Thanks for looking!
