Because I love documenting this stuff so I can pull it back up again for future reference, here is my trip report:

1. I rotated between the cowboy booties and boots. This worked best for comfort reasons. And feet sweat in boots - they need time to dry out. My feet were very happy the entire trip, even running through airports. The days were long - lots of bar hopping involved, after long day of meetings. The boots were up to the task. They gave me some height too, which helped, because all my new coworkers are freakishly tall.

2. I adopted a formula for each day: silk blouse worn untucked, cami underneath for warmth, skinny ponte knits OR skinny jeans, boots, charcoal grey theory blazer with sleeves scrunched OR black cardigan, with leopard clutch. Toss on black puffer + scarf for outdoors (it was cold).

3. I did not wear the black jersey dress. Seemed too dressy. This meeting was uber-casual. I also did not wear the pleather jackets I brought along -- though I easily could have, and in retrospect, I should have popped one of these on for the bar hopping portion. And I did not wear the western belt, simply because it wouldn't have shown, since I wore my tops untucked.

4. To travel I wore comfy slouchy sweater over skinnies with boots, and pashmina. I re-wore the same outfit going and coming back.

5. There was a wardrobe casualty: my puffer coat! At the bars we'd all stack our coats on top of a bar stool. Then someone would sit on top. Someone's heel snagged the back of my coat and ripped it. The rip is at the seam so I am taking it to the tailor to have it fixed, but I probably need to invest in a new one.

6. Wardrobe stars for this trip (traveled well, were comfortable, versatile, etc):
a) AT Legacy blouses
b) Charcoal Theory blazer
c) Cowboy boots and booties
d) the new Joe skinny jeans -- so comfortable. I still haven't washed these, and they've held their shape quite remarkably. I am finally going to wash them this weekend. Cross fingers they survive....

Thanks all - I did a quick try-on yesterday and the tall boots coordinate color-wise very nicely with my leopard clutch. They look great with a dress -- the black jersey cowl neck dress for sure. Also looks *fab* with the new patterned shirt dress I got at Nordie's -- that is probably the closest to "hipster" I could find in my closet --but it'll be too cold for that dress, I'm afraid, even with toppers and a slip. Saving that look for spring.

Not so thrilled with the tall boots paired with jeans, because the boots are so light in color. The dark brown booties look better with jeans. Or maybe it's my Boston-adjusted eye (we wear a lot of black, black and more black here). But last night DH said the booties aren't "western enough." He thinks they are much too understated.

The other problem with the brown booties is that my pants tend to pop out of them. I had already ordered some stirrups to solve that, but they won't arrive before the trip.

I'm going to bring the black dress, both boots, jeans, black ponte knits, a couple of silk blouses, and for toppers a black cardigan with gold buttons, black pleather jacket, and black pleather moto. And the belt -- though I kind of prefer the blouses worn untucked.

I am thinking about wearing the tall boots on the plane to conserve luggage space, probably with black ponte knit pants (comfy for travel) and a big warm sweater. But the other items don't take up all that much room so there's a possibility I can pack them and wear the booties on the plane instead.

Will wear black lightweight puffer which is handy because it can be worn over the toppers and easily accommodates layering.

Now just have to decide when to wear what....

I am SO GLAD I bought these cowboy boots! I rarely get to wear them here in Boston but with this job they are going to come in very handy! I don't think this will be my only business trip I get to take them on.

Did I ever mention that my very first tall boots were cowboy boots??? My dad bought me a pair from Shepler's when I was 13. Because even back then I struggled to find tall boots to fit my short legs. I wore those boots for years and years. When I wear these new boots, I can't help but think of my dad and be transported back to my teenage years....

Also, my feet are going to be very happy. Both boots are very comfortable to walk in. I like how cowboy boots have heels, but are shaped in a way that they throw your weight back rather than forward on to your toes.

Rambling Ann - the belt actually matches everything. It is actually fairly subtle for a western belt.

Nothing matters but the boots and big smile. Practice "how yew darlin;?" Anything else goes, esp if sparkly. Can you conceivably wear the boots on the plane? Skip the belt if it doesn't match. Have fun!!

Your list sounds good. Concur with Runcarla about the leather jacket. Really anything you usually wear for work will be fine. Nashville is a fun city!

Do you have any type of vest to go with the dress? Also, maybe a few under-layers?

Sounds like you have a fun job! DH has to travel to Bonnaroo in a few months; would love any inspiration photos so I can send him off in style!

I would think you can absolutely wear your silk blouses. Do you have a wrap dress you could wear with one of them for layering? Or would the cowl neck work layered with a blouse like Angie's post?

http://youlookfab.com/2013/12/.....-pullover/

The cowboy boots and belt sound terrific.

I think the dress and booties could be fun. With it being so cold, I would go for layers - do you have any sweater coats, or cardigans on the dressier end of things? The silk blouses with jeans and boots and a topper could work really well.

I have another business trip coming up this week. I thought I had my capsule all figured out, but just received the agenda and there's a dress code: "Nashville hipster - jeans, boots and hats welcome." Sounds like fun! But, how do I accommodate that dress code, while also keeping it business appropriate?

Temps: looks like a cold wave coming through, so it'll be in the 30s.

What I have:

1. Cowboy boots (bought on my trip in Austin back in February). They are a butter color.
2. Cowboy-like booties in a distressed dark brown.
3. Dark wash skinny jeans that can be tucked into either.
4. Wide B&W calf hair belt with western buckle (also bought on my trip to Austin)

So it's really about the toppers I suppose... can I wear my AT legacy silk blouses?

How about the RL black jersey 3/4 sleeve cowl neck dress, with the cowboy booties?

What about a top layer? What to wear?

Help!
