1 - As suggested, here is another pic of #6, this time with white jeans to make it easier to see the hemline (ignore the pins, I'm working on hemming the jeans.)

2 - 3 a blue EF linen sweater that also fits into this general category of tops especially if I scrunch the sleeves a bit more

Thanks Beth Ann I will definitely look at the ones you've posted. I think I've seen that Loft one before. I have to say I don't usually like the fabrics used in the Alfani line; it seems to me they choose really cheap fabric to keep the costs down; although they are certainly not alone in that. I will definitely check these out especially since you said there are lots of colors and prints, and I do love the curved hem. Thanks again!

Hi Chris! Loving the new grey top -- that one is fabulous. The existing ones fit well, but are a bit less summery. Your parameters and shape are different from mine, but I think you might have luck with these tops I just purchased yesterday from Macys (now on sale) and a few weeks ago from Loft. You should know:

1. I sized down in all of them.

2. The Loft top is longer on me -- I'm 5'6" with a slightly long waist.

3. The loft top has a beautiful bright navy color and great fabric.

4. The Macy's tops have a bit of swing in the waist and hip and a pleat in the back. There are lots more colors and patterns (by Alfani)

Thanks RobinF and Maneera!

Rachylou, all except the last two I've had for several years...from...anthrop, TJMaxx and a thrift shop. I don't think I bought any of them at this time of year. The last two I just got at Macys.com. They have a big selection online of all kinds of clothing. I often find cheap fabrics, poor fit, and styles I don't like but there is a store pretty close by so returns are easy. I also find stuff I do like so I go back a lot. Lots of sales too.

Jaileen thanks, I have to be methodical since I'm working on changing my whole approach to my wardrobe. If I don't make rules for myself I won't be able to make the changes I want. I think of it as changing habits which is HARD.

Thanks Angie! I am very capable of learning new things...not an old dog yet! Let me see if I can get a better pic of the last one, that's the one I'm really questioning. I think I should try it with white pants too which will make the shape more obvious.

You are doing GREAT, Chris. I especially like how it all came together in #5. That's the best fitting top of all.

#6 looks like it has great potential, but the fit is hard to see in the pic.

Angie's minimalist article last week helped me to identify a wardrobe hole I'd been struggling with for several weeks. Her defition was "shorter and more flattering cropped length on the jeans, trendy trapeze T-shirt with playful drape and bare forearms, statement bag, flat sandals low contrasts to jeans". The thing I do not have is the top. So, hole identified!
My interpretation is not truly minimal, but it IS inspired by it.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

While I was going through this exercise I further refined the definition for me (and wrote it down)

1. Dark solid; ok to have a little detail and/or texture
2. Fabric suited to all the but the hottest summer days, or for indoors in AC. I run cold so I can wear longer sleeves in summer than some
3. Shape a bit loose not too form fitting
4. Moderate to high neckline or split neck. Not a lower curved neckline or a vneck or a collar.
5. No ruffles, gathered sleeve cuffs, gathered necklines, embroidery, prints or stripes
6. No Henley, peasant, or tunic top
7. I would wear any necklace(s) on the outside

...I had these in my closet

#1 Dark red textured top 3/4 sleeve- Anthro - not really a summer color but I could certainly wear it. Texture not very visible in this pic. Love this top get huge compliments every time I wear it.
#2 Navy Linen vneck sweater - talbots (thrifted)
#3 Grey long sleeve with slight pattern; not really a flowy top and maybe a bit too casual
#4 Black 3/4 sleeved sweater; ok but again not very flowy and a poly knit so not for warm weather.

...and I ordered these...

#5 silver top - metallic fabic.
#6 navy top with chiffon hem...seems ok but I'm wondering if that hem is putting a little too much emphasis on hip area...with a couple of gold pendants maybe would be better to draw the eye up
