I definitely have to have different foundations for summer/winter... but tans get deeper and fade over time, so it's not as easy as buying two bottles. I'm a blend my own colour person...

Definately use a darker shade of bb cream in summer. I use tanner in a bottle so I do get a bit of summer color.

Oh, I forgot about foundation! I use the same year round. I don't need much anyway except over my nose and chin which get some redness sometimes. Especially if I eat spicy food, which is always!

I definitely use a darker shade for the Summer since I ride my bike to work and get both morning and evening sun hitting my face. I try to put on major SPF too since I started noticing little dark spots on my left cheek bone since that's where the sun gets me.

Try not to tan, for so many good reasons seems to be the best strategy. You guys will be so happy with your skin as the days pass.

Here it's a lifestyle fail Hats and SPF a million and I'm still tanning, unusually so for a red head. Honestly, it never occurred to me to mix my own.

I like Angie's tinted moisturizer idea, I think I even have some.

Kkards-there is a Sephora in the big city. Next time I'm up, I might do it, and then go back in dead of winter and see how different they are. I'm not sure were folks get their make-up around here. Probably Walmart, which is 50 miles down the road...

Gigi-that's it exactly, I throw it away long before using it up as it is, to double the waste would bother me.

I am in the same boat and not sure what will happen this year. I am trying to protect my skin more, so I hope I won't tan. But last year, near the end of the summer, I did feel like my foundation was a little too light. I got a sample of the next-darker shade and tried that a week ago, but it was clearly too dark; however, I haven't started to tan yet this year. I am hoping to do what em suggested above, which is to mix a little bronzer into my regular foundation to darken it up if necessary. (I don't wear enough foundation to use up two bottles, one light and one dark, per year.)

like many of the others, i don't generally tan in the summer (at least anymore, different story when I was in my 20s). now my foundation is generally good year round expect for a week or 2 post beach vacation, and then i just change to a tinted moisturizer. anyway if you have a Sephora nearby, they have this cool new thing that analyzes your skin tone and recommends a foundation....I had them give me a recommendation about a month ago, and i love the new foundation, they color is perfect.

I try not to tan, but some summers I do. I find I'm usually 1-2 shades darker. I started using Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer this week. (Sidenote: it's absolutely perfectly gorgeous!) The SA at Sephora's told me not to worry about buying two shades. Just get a liquid/gel makeup bronzer (Stila makes one, and Mercier has a bronze primer), and mix it into my current tinted moisturizer or foundation. I think I'm going to try that.

I do get darker in the summer and need to change my CC cream. Sometimes the next shade darker is too dark so I mix it with my lighter color. I am able to customize the color as summer moves toward fall then go the opposite way as fall moves toward winter and I get lighter again.

I deliberately don't tan either but still inevitably get some color. Even with the strongest SPF as a base, even if I don't burn, I'll still get more redness. I switch over to BB or CC cream not only because it's lighter for heat/humidity, but because it will correct to match skin tone.

Otherwise the switch is for the texture more than the color. I can't stand regular foundation on my face in the warmer months. It just feels like too much (even applied lightly), and also has a tendency to slide right off.

When I was younger, and tanned more, I'd always swap. But now I try and avoid the sun on my face so I don't need to. I recently moved from Sydney which has a warm but fairly temperate climate, to Brisbane, where it is pretty hot and humid in the summer (though divine right now in autumn!) I think next summer I might change consistency of my foundation, to something a little more waterproof!
But like Retailgirl, I have always swapped my moisturisers (richer in cooler weather).

I don't change my tinted moisturizer at all. It has very natural coverage - meaning not very covered at all - which allows the natural colour of my skin to come through no matter what colour it is during the year.

I'm very fair and don't tan, so I wear the same color foundation all year. I might wear a little less in the summer, due to heat and humidity. I do switch moisturizer in the summer, from Clinique youth surge to Clinique moisture surge or dramatically different moisturizing lotion.

I use the same eye shades summer and winter because my goal is to emphasize my eye color, which is unusual. I only use eye liner not shadow anyway.

I try to alter my lip color a bit to something season appropriate so I don't get bored. I tend to go with lighter shades.

i have two blush shades that i use all year. If I get some color, I skip the blush.

Do you usually change shades for summer? Or does the same shade work year round for you? My tan came on early this year, and I'm facing (haha, bad pun) a collection of bottles that are probably all too light.
