Oh my, there's the epitomy of a YLF dilemma... when Angie is the spanner :)
I appreciate you chiming in Angie. I thnk I'll get some IRL opinions this weekend, and play a bit more.

Hah. I'm a spanner. I like the first BR zippered one best by far. Especially in #4 and #5.

I love this place. You ladies are so wise! Thank you so much for all the input here.. it's so awesome to know there is a place to go to get honest feedback.

The navy BR is definitely going back. In addition to the zipper issue, I agree the Joie is much better. They weren't supposed to be so similar - I wanted a new one to be heavier and for layering, as the Joie is too light for that.

I will do some soul searching (or maybe even some closet searching) as to whether I need a black sweater that isn't the greatest to layer. I do quite like that sweater, but agree the neckline is awkward for layering. Looks like most of you liked that one styled plainer... I think I do too.
Lisa, I thought it was you that posted the other one, but didn't want to get it wrong :). I'm glad you chimed in that you don't really like it for layering either. That helps.

And I will think hard about the navy Gap one, based on what you said Jackie... "doesn't have the edginess that I associate with you" really struck a chord with me... it's so easy to play safe, and I've been doing it most of my life, so now that I'm feeling comfortable with the "edgy" side of me, and if people are actually associating it with me, well, that's a huge compliment and I don't want to blow it! I'll look closer at the quality and check the fabric content Suz, I think it was about 50% cotton, some poly and some wool.

So, no tags being ripped off just yet!
Thanks again.

LOVE the BR zipper one (first one). I like it best unlayered. If you do layer then I'd try to unzip symmetrically,if that's possible.
Your current vneck is the best, so I say nay on the BR one.
The Gap sweater is ok, but not as outstanding as other things I've seen on you. Yep, it's a useful piece but it doesn't have that edginess that I associate with you

That was me who posted the BR zip neck sweater - did it as a response of sorts to one of Angie's blog posts about layering shirts under sweaters. Although I wore it that way that one day, I suspect it may never happen again. I prefer unlayered nd unfussy most of the time - it's far easier Of these three, I like the last one best too.

I have been very frustrated with BRs knits this season. They all look so darned interesting on the website. But they're a little awkward in person. Or at least the styles I've tried haven't worked for me, with the exception of the long grey cardi (which I didn't expect to work ... go figure!)

I quite like the black zip neck sweater not layered. But I agree with the others that the blue one isn't as good as the sweater you already own. And I'm on the fence about the Gap one. It looks good, and is more casual than your Joie. But I've had bad quality experiences with Gap knits so am hesitant. I think it would depend on how it feels on you. And fabric content.

Peri has a good point, 11 is the best of all of them, so...

I wonder how the black zipper neck one would look over a crew neck, for a simpler look. But if you wouldn't tend to want to wear it that way anyway, you shouldn't keep it.

Funny...scrolling through the pictures my reaction was "#11 is the best"! Then read to find it is already yours. So...definitely don't keep the BR Navy V neck. You have doubts, and why would you reach for second best when you could wear #11?

I'm also not loving the BR zip neck one. It looks off balance layered over the tops...my first thought was wondering if one collar wasn't out fully by accident. I think you can find better.

I do like the last one.

i'm not loving the BR zip neck one....IMO even on the model it looks like of off.i like the side zip one, from the front, its ok from the side. maybe you could play with unzipping it half way? i like the gap one, but as you say, its probably to long to layer.

I like the black one on it's own but it looks strange to me layered over the button-downs. The collars seem to complete. I like the last one as well. It seems to work well with layers and I like the side slit.

I like the last one a lot - I think the length is nice on you and the hem type as well. Tbh I'm not in love with either of the other ones, for some reason. Maybe the neck treatment in the first one is easier to understand in person.

So.... with all the recent chatter about Essentials and Statements, combined with the recent blog posts from Angie on layering, I realized a wardrobe hole. My favourite FFBO for casual evenings and weekends at this time of year is without a doubt, jeans and a mid weight, textured sweater. I have three that I reach for, and have also been using two of these three to wear when layering over a button up shirt. Which I'd like to do more often. However, I do not own one in navy, or black. My neutrals. These should be essentials for me, right?

Search... begin!

1-6 First up: Black BR sweater with funky zips at the neck. Somebody recently posted ot this in the toffee colour. I've styled it here with shirts underneath, as well as just a tank, which I've shown with the neck both zipped up and down. Excuse the flouncies on #4, but I'm going to post this just to show the sleeves, which I like showing like this, plus it keeps the sleeves scrunched up better!

7-10. Navy v-neck from BR. I really like the feel of this, and the look of it from the front. However I really DON'T like the look from the side when it's un-zipped (#8). Plus the zipperes, the way they sit, seem to give me love handles. I'm working on those perfectly well by myself thanyouverymuch, not sure I need any help from BR. I also wonder if it's too similar to the Joie Armelio tunic (#11) - perhaps not layered, but alone. See, I'm being practical :)

12-15. Lastly... navy BF sweater from the Gap. Shown layered over a tank, and a couple of button up tops. It's long enough that I doubt I can get the shirt tail layering look with this one, but that's okay. I struggle with this anyway, because of my shape, and having long sweater is a just as good in my world.

OK.... over to your expert eyes... what do you think? I'm leaning towards keepig the black and the Gap navy, but am willing to dissuaded if you think I can do better, or see things I don't (which often happens!)
