Every few years there seems to be a fire somewhere in the pass, so there is scarring dotted around, but this was so extensive. I haven't seen the morning report yet, but last night they were up to 75% containment. There were a bunch of people refusing to evacuate, and they had the corpse sniffing dogs out because they were expecting loss of life due to refusal to evacuate. It is no joke! The southbound freeway out of the mountains is still closed (and a car caught on fire on the northbound this morning - like the firefighters aren't busy enough!). The containment hasn't grown, but it seems like the fire hasn't really either. Frightening and I'm glad you and boyfriend are okay. My in-laws once lived in one of the mountain towns that has been evacuated. When they lived there they had a fire that cut them off, which was followed the next year by a flood that washed out the road and left them stranded. The boy scouts packed in food for them.
