Deborah, I like the jacket and want to keep it. It passes my personal litmus test of "I want to wear it out the door right now".

I did want YLF approval and I'm glad you chimed in because while I generally trust my own judgement, sometimes YLF has shown me my judgement was wrong.

Sylvie, I like the jacket with these dresses. I think the proportions are definitely better than the empire line dresses. I like it best open in #1 but either in #2. I like the jacket.. are you keeping it?

Photos with other dresses!

1) With less voluminous empire waist dress: open, partially buttoned, back view when partially buttoned.

2) With sheath dress: buttoned and open.

I'm pretty happy with the curve I get from partially buttoning the jacket. I might consider tailoring the back just a teensy bit in the future.

Suz, I'm going to have to look up the jacket that you and Claire have as an alternate option if this doesn't pass muster.

Clever student, Sylvie!

You are right about the cut of the dresses being relevant.

Also, an inch (just a measly inch) can make a HUGE difference in proportion with a jacket. It is amazing.

There are denim jackets available that are cut with a slight curve; the one that Claire and I have from ON is actually like that. But it still probably wouldn't work with an empire style dress.

Interested to see how your jacket works with the sheath!

Aha! You've helped me see the problem with the dresses now.

Most of my dresses (including the two shown) are empire waists, which means no matter what sort of jacket I wear with them, they will always flare out/look voluminous below the jacket edge. What these dresses need is a very fitted jacket that creates the curved silhouette. In fact the jacket in #5 would almost certainly work.

Denim jackets are cut straight by default, so they would only work with dresses that already follow the line of the body. I'm going to try the jacket with my sheath dresses this evening.

Sylvie, I really like the denim jacket. It looks to be a similar length to mine and I received the thumbs up wearing it with a dress here

http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....sisterhood

I think it has a lot to do with proportions? So it really depends on the dress.

I am not loving the jeans but I do like the ones you already own. They look amazing on you.

The ATL jacket is nice. I would like to see the profile view as well. Color looks good and its a nice fit:)

I agree with Jenava -- the ON jacket works better w/ pants than with dresses. I like the jacket you almost purchased as well, it looks really nice the way you styled it in #5.

I think the Paiges look better than the Gaps from the front. I like them from the back too but you need to find Paiges with matching, not contrasting thread on the pockets. So I agree you made the right decision not to purchase these. Maybe look for other Skylines in different washes and thread styles (or try eBay to get them at Gap prices -- I have saved a ton on premium denim this way).

I purchased my first pair of Paiges in Sept. and have worn them more than any other new jeans this year (I buy a lot of jeans because I wear jeans every day). The fit and comfort and style are outstanding. Mine are the Verdugo jegging style.

Hmm, Kellygirl often posts denim jackets with dresses, I think - I'm not so sure it wouldn't work but I'd like to see it with other dresses. I don't think it's the best with these two particular ones, so if those are the ones you're buying it for, that's an issue. It seems to flare right where you'd want it to crop.

Thanks for the wisdom ladies.

The Paige jeans aren't bad, I agree, but they were the best fitting out of all the premium denim. The whiskering on the Gap jeans usually works itself out with wear, so I never worry about them. I don't plan to purchase either right now - still searching for a 10.

I was worried that the denim jacket might be too long for dresses as well, but it looks to be the same length as Angie's so I was undecided.

http://youlookfab.com/2011/07/.....an-outfit/

I would love additional votes on whether the jacket can/can't work with dresses. If it can't, it's going to get returned.

Thanks again!

I agree with Jeneva that this denim jacket is a bit too long for dresses. But the fit looks good and if you want one to wear with trousers it might work well.

I'm not sure if others on the forum have this particular ON jacket; I know Claire and I and one other person have a different ON denim jacket that is collarless and (perhaps) more fitted.

Re the jeans, I actually prefer the Paige both views. I see some pulling in the crotch area with the Gap jeans in pic 3 that would make me personally uncomfortable. But I must acknowledge, this may be a personal hangup of mine; I happen to be rather long in the rise and am always wanting pants that do not grab in that region! Maybe it's not as big a deal to other people.

As for the ATL jacket I think someone else posted this jacket this weekend, too! Or maybe it was another post from you? Oy, I am losing my marbles...sorry!

I like the jacket, but I would not wear this one with dresses - I think it's too long. Maybe with a fitted sheath dress or pencil skirt?

The jeans, I like both of them...I have a slight preference for the Paiges, actually, including the rear view!

I can't see the jacket well enough to make much of a comment, but the colors sound interesting!

The last denim jacket I tried was YLF approved but unfortunately was shoddily manufactured and has been returned. Here is the Old Navy denim jacket, which I think several on the forum already have. It isn't cropped and hits at the high hip but it fits well in the shoulders.

1-2) Keep or return for denim jacket?

On another note, I tried on a bunch of premium denim today and if I had been looking for a pair of dark wash skinnies instead of black, my first choice would have been a pair of Paige Skylines. However, although the fabric is nicer on premium denim, I still haven't found anything that fits better on my body than Gap and I didn't find the price differential worth it. As an illustration, please notice how much better the rear view is in Gap (3) instead of Paige (4). It was a good experience to try on premium denim though and if I find a black pair that works for me, I may very well purchase one.

5) I didn't buy this ATL jacket, but now I'm considering it, because it looks pretty good in this photo. It also comes in maroon and black. I'm wearing my current Gap skinnies in this picture, which are fitting correctly again after laundering.
