Karie, the Sorels tie up. The laces are a bit stretchy. I tuck them into the sides after tying. You'd love the Paul Greens!! I think you'd like them, too, Sal, but maybe in camel! :)

Yes, I do a ton of city walking and also a ton of trail walking, but trail to city and city to trail -- so I need something that works in both locations. I have real trail shoes for runs and for actual ambitious hikes (where there are rocks, a steep climb, etc.) But that is pure gear.

Thanks Suz. It is interesting to see what has worked, what has worked with a few caveats, and the "others". And yes it is hard to pick that is for sure!!

My footwear needs are similar but different. I have a mix of working from home, working from our facility, and leisure. I don't do as much city walking as you do - and when I do I wear my Asics running shoes 80% of the time.

I am looking for camel shoes for my work capsule as priority one (loafers, low chunky heels or oxfords.....) Something that will work most of the year with pants or jeans and a blazer for work.

I would love something along the lines of your Paul Greens.....maybe!!

The Sorels look cute and comfy - do the laces tie or are they a slip on style?
I never cared for the lug soled Cons - they looked great on others, just not for me. The red plaid stompy boots are right up my style alley, though - I love those.

Those Sorel boots are great and not too “snow boot” looking, just what I would like, but I clicked on like 6 different retailers and my size is gone everywhere. Oh well, no-buy February continues!

Thanks, sweet Suz. It was a very unlucky end to a brutal year. What can you do. That's life. Onward....

YES, those Sorels are happy siblings :)

I WAS JUST LOOKING AT THOSE SANDALS. Very 2020. I hope they work for you:

Angie, similar! It's the same "family." These look like a spring/ fall version. The ones I have are lined for winter -- not with fleece, but some sort of warm inner padding of some kind. And they are hi-tops. Whereas these are a more regular sneaker height.

I wore mine again yesterday and they were great. A lot less slippery than the Cons. I might need to put an insole in. Haven't decided yet.

I also have my eye on these for summer. Very sporty but could be super fun. Again, the same family of shoe.

I am so so sorry about that fall. What awful luck. I often find when I am grieving that those things happen more often. I bump into things, fall more often, hit my head, etc. Distraction and just generally not being as "with it" due to grief.

Love the Sorel sneaker-boots for you, Suz! I had been eyeing them for a while, so it's great to have a first-hand experience with them - maybe next year. DH has a pair of their chukkas that have held up well, so hopefully you will get more than a season out of them. I hope you will update us to the quality!

Angie - How horrible that you had such a nasty fall!! Hope you are feeling much, much better! Slippery shoes and winter are rotten.

JAileen, that is so smart.

Angie had pointed out that they were a bit heavy and I know that's usually a negative for me. But I thought with a flatform I might be able to manage the weight (and inflexibility of the sole) a bit better. That is true -- but only to a point! The devil is in the details, right? We live and learn....

Joy, those particular Sorels would be too short for your snow, it sounds like! You need taller ones!

Suz, I love the look of those Sorels and have been hoping to find Sorel snow boots in white or very pale grey lined in white faux fur as even booties are too low for the snows this year and I will probably need to replace my white boots. Heavy footwear is a no-buy for me.
Angie, I am sorry about your fall. Even driving over those metal manhole covers on a wet snowy street is dangerous. The street to our house is full of them and full of 10+ inches of snow. That is why I need grippy taller boots.
Look for EF shoes at Nordstrom Rack, if you are near one, for better prices. I have collected several pair there, including pumps that feel like I am wearing flats. They are a metallic black that is fun for a black shoe.
Also watch for sales on the EF website.

Angie, that is awful!!!! No wonder you don't want to wear those mustard Cons!!!! They are surprisingly slippery, aren't they? Despite the lug soles. I have almost fallen a few times in them on slick pavement or on grates, as you say. I wear my red ones in the woods and on grotty paths....and they are actually really good for that -- but the white soles of those are now (probably irreparably) stained due to the type of use. I've kept my mustard ones pristine, and do like wearing them in the rain, but I tread very carefully in them.

I hope you are feeling better now. That sounds absolutely dreadful!

Marilyn, those Sorel snow boots remind me of a Kimik pair I had some years ago, recommended by Alaskagirl. They were brilliant. I tried several of the popular Sorel boots a few years ago (not the ones you show) and they were absolutely awful for my foot -- but these new ones could not be better and I will certainly try other styles in future after this great experience! The white soles stay clean on these (unlike the Cons) because there is a dark layer on the bottom that traps the dirt. :)

SUPER cute Sorels, Suz! I love the white soles. Perfect for walking to and from exercise class! Sooooo 2020. I'd try them if they came in white :)

YAY! Your NAS PGs are workhorses. Happy memories! And you must keep EF footwear on your radar.

I LOVE MY OLD CONVERSE Hi-TOPS!!! The ones with the fleece lining and are made of leather. My most comfortable shoes. VERY lightweight. The ones in the Finds #1 and #2 below. I wish I had another three pairs.

I fell badly on my back in the Gor-Tex mustard lugged sole Chucks three months ago - Find #3. Seattle rain and slipped on a metal sewer plate in the city while walking Sam. Still doing physio therapy twice a week and 40 mins of exercise daily after a hectic amount of pain meds. It was chronic. I'm MUCH better now but by no means perfect. But don't want to wear the shoes again. Bad association

The Sorels are AMAZING!!!! SOOOO comfy. Wore them out for a woods walk today and was completely walking on air.

This is a case of awe and wonder for me -- I have tried other Sorel styles in the past and never got a fit, not even once. Whereas these are perfect.

Reviews are excellent, too, although some people say size up. I think if your feet are very long in the toe (mine are short) or wider, you might want to size up. I found them TTS. LisaP, I think you would really enjoy these. They're probably no good for a long walk in Winnipeg winter, but they'd be excellent for a quick hop in and out of the car, to the grocery store, etc.

Marilyn, that's great to know that the style of Cons you got do work for you -- I should check them out. Interesting that the flat versions don't work for you, too.

And Bonnie, glad it is not my imagination re the Cons. I think they are adorable with a cropped wide leg and really like them that way.

I agree that the Converse flatforms look best with wide leg pants. I wore them with my black skinny HR pants and they looked huge. Paired with my wide leg pants they look great. It's good to learn that the EF pumps are good for walking and I think I need those Sorrel shoes.

Those Sorels are super cute! I'd wear those back and forth to job#2 and the gym myself. I fell fashion-victim to those Converse in mustard too, and am ashamed at myself for being such a lemming. Nothing about them appealed to me when I first saw them other than Angie wearing them - which I should know better than to think I can replicate. I wore them twice and even tried selling them here on YLF to no avail. Too much shoe for me. I'll give them another go in Spring, but I don't expect much from them - and may end up donating .

Suz....I can't wear the regular Cons either. I've tried them so many times because they're trendy and cool looking but they feel horribly uncomfortable.

Everybody's feet are different! For me, the regular (flat soled) Cons never, ever, ever work. Waaaaaay too flat for my feet! And also, I think my instep is too high volume for them. The wedge version of a few years ago worked pretty well...and this flatform sort of works, but only if I alternate with a different style the next day, and it's not great for hour-long walks.

I'm sure a lot of people whose eyes would pop out of their heads at the idea of wearing an almost 3 inch (near wedge) heel for a two mile walk, and it would not be my first choice...but truly, it's probably at least as good as a truly flat shoe for my foot.

It's all a process of trial and error, right?

But they do not.

That's too bad about the Converse, Suz. I didn't try those ones because they looked very chunky for my style.

I got these ones and they're super light and like walking on pillows. Warm too! I wish they came in navy.
