Tracey, thanks. Janet had a good idea to cut a scrap and try it first to minimize errors when doing the real thing. I'm looking on youtube too.

Sterling, thanks. I like the tunic too.

Firecracker, thanks so much. Appreciate your kind words. Looking on youtube now.

Thistle, see above for notes on the sweater.

Suz, thanks. I like the bag. It smells so good (:-O) and it's on sale at M-D now. The quality seems good, hopefully it lasts for a long time. It has one zippered section and one open section that closes via the circle and ties. Everything fits nicely so I am taking it on its maiden voyage today haha

Manny and Jenn, thanks!!

lyn67, what a boost, thanks. I like button downs but I am lazy and don't like to iron. We'll see how this works out. I couldn't pass it up - so many tops have dropped shoulders now so when I put on this top I was like WOW must have it for what it does for my shape.

Glory, thanks. I am looking on google and youtube now. I like Janet's idea to try with a scrap first.

Janet, what a brilliant idea. I'm gonna try that! Thanks. This "scarf" or whatever you call it (scrap of material, haha) is from Zara and cost about 20 USD, so way cheaper than a lot of the ponchos on the market.

Nice picks! I love that striped top on you. And the Zara scarf looks like it would be the perfect colors and simple colorblock for a poncho. I wondered about turning a scarf into a poncho myself, once I started looking at how pricey a lot of ponchos are, when really, they're mostly just big squares with a hole in the middle for your head! Maybe try cutting a piece of scrap fabric to the same size as the scarf, and then experimenting with that first? I'd be nervous to chop it too.

Chiming back in on the poncho. I made one last year and the details were on you tube. I think it was How to knit a quick and easy poncho. Although for knitting the instructions would be the same.

Hey Thistle that sweater was super soft. I may order it. It's a tad thicker than I need for our mild weather but it was so cozy I kinda can't stop thinking about it. On gap website it calls it a sweatshirt .. I can see it paired w jeans for a casual look. If you get it let me know and I will do the same.

Thanks to all for your replies

I love your Zara finds, and I can see both of them together with that gorgeous bag. I'm looking forward to your styling of the new top (such lovely colors!) and tunic, too. Hooray for trying new things!

Nice finds! I especially like the striped tunic on you, too. It looks great with your skinny jeans. Glad your stalked bag went on sale. I don't know about making a poncho from the scarf. I bet you will find a tutorial on YouTube, though.

Great finds. No help with the scarf question as Ive had one for two years that my son gave me that I am too chicken to cut. Good luck with the much needed shoes.

Today I took advantage of needing to get my daughter some jeans and, ahem, spent some time in the mall shopping for myself. :)

What I bought:
1. Zara tshirt - hopefully just the right fit, bought to bookend/tie in with some booties of nearly the same shade. My eye hasn't adjusted to the pant style/length and shoes the model has so try to overlook this if you're like me, haha.
2. Zara scarf - I am thinking of hacking this into a poncho. Thoughts? It's big enough, I think. 140cm x 140cm. I love that it mixes black, grey and camel. Thinking this may be a surprise wildcard for me!
3. Massimo Dutti purse - I stalked it until it was on sale. High hopes that this incorporates the cognac color I've been after.
4. BR tunic - not avail in USA anymore so I got it locally. Mine is white and blue stripes. Hoping to wear it with jeans, booties and new purse for a pulled together, classic look. I liked the longer length and popver styling - maybe this will help my aversion to button up shirts.
5. Chicos print top (pic 1) - got this to go with dark wash jeans I'm having trouble matching tops with.
6. Chicos antique white shirt (pic 2) - cut reminds me of an EF shirt I have and love. Another top to go with dark wash jeans, or under navy blazer, or under brown zara blazer from last year.

I struck out with shoes. Waaahhh! I need shoes so badly! Next time.

As always - feedback welcome! Especially if anyone has advice on that DIY poncho project.

Edited to add dressing room pics - please forgive my ragged appearance and funny faces

Oh and I added a pic of a gap sweater I liked, pondering it for now. Sorry it pasted out of order (iPhone grr)
