Maybe making a macramé or crochet type sleeve for it? There seems to be a little bit of space at the base of the pull, maybe enough to get some threads through.

I second the idea of cobbler to insert a leather tab pull, or even an alterations person might have a product which is used to replace lost zipper pulls.

Thanks Lisa!

RobinF - littel strips of leather might work, thanks. The hole is really tiny so the leather would have to be a lot thinner than a round shoelace. More like thick thread like is used for upholstery sewing ... hmm.

Jaileen your idea could work, but everything would have to be quite a lot smaller that what you showed. That's where it gets tricky Thanks!

Several years ago I thrifted a Coach bag that was missing its zipper pull. I found a scrap of leather and used a rotary cutter to cut the leather, and then hand sewed it onto a clip. It was very easy to do. I wonder if this might work in your situation.

You can buy little strips of leather at a craft store. They can be cut to size. Thread it through the hole and knot. Hard to tell how big the hole is.

Interesting, I've never considered zippers that flop around but I can see how that would be annoying when it's on a sleeve. I like the double sided tape idea. Your quick sew job was also quite clever.

April, do you mean try using fashion tape instead of the current zipper pull? Good suggestion, thanks.

cat2, good suggestion, hadn't thought of a cobbler. I haven't been to one in quite a long while, and am not even sure where to find one, but will consider it.

Roberta, good idea on the cobbler. . Leather would be less clunky but I also want a pull that is quite a lot smaller than the one there already.

What Cat2 said! If you have someone who can fix shoes, they will have encountered this before. I am now noticing that most of my bags have leather or canvas pull tabs on the zippers.

Can your cobbler help? Mine fixes zippers on purses and likely has the right tools.

I just bought a ponte moto jacket that has sleeve zipper pulls that are most annoying. I’ve been thinking about ways to make them less annoying, and thought I’d ask here to see if any other fabbers have found good ways of dealing with this. (Macys finds are not working so I made a custom find)

I wore it last night to a dinner event. No photos – was in a rush . I tried a quick hand sewing job but the stitching came out on one sleeve and sure enough on that sleeve the zipper pull was flapping around, clacking on the table when I was eating and writing notes, generally being most annoying. I'm very happy with the jacket otherwise.

The hand sewing trick was to attach the zipper pull to the zipper teeth to make it not flap around. I could do a better job and this would be a good solution, but it would make it impossible to open up the zipper and fold the sleeves up. Maybe I can live this that.

The other possibility is to remove the longer part of the zipper pull and leave just the very small piece, so I’d have something to grab onto if I wanted to open the zipper. I’d need to find some tiny tools to cut it
off without damaging anything and am not sure even DH’s extensive tool
collection has anything like that.

Maybe I could cut it off entirely and find a substitute on Etsy made of soft leather so it would flap around a little but be silent. I did a quick search and found nothing small enough. (Still have the issue of finding the right tools to do this)

Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance!!

Photo 1: the zipper pull sewed onto the teeth - my temporary hack

Photo 2: the zipper pull flapping around in it’s “natural state”.
