I've pretty much made peace with it. It just comes with the territory of tall boots, in my experience. Even stretch boots do this because our ankles are always moving when we walk.

Maybe you need either a lot of stretch or something really stiff.

It bugs me! I’m considering trying this product but have a hard time wrapping my head around paying $25 for elastic and snaps.

What Ginger said. I don't know how this would be possible to avoid and still move my ankle at all. Maybe it's because I have wide calves and average ankles, but this just happens.

Ha! No, I don't think it ruins anything and my 44 year old less than perky and sleek curves get accepted too.

You don't think saggy ankles on non-slouch boots looks too weird?

That it doesn't ruin the urban, sleek line one is trying to achieve with this style of boot?

In any case think that I will make a conscious decision to just make peace with my sagging boot ankles (just as I have, at age 47, chosen to make peace with my various sagging body parts).

I have a wide calf and proportionally much smaller ankle, so this always happens to me with tall boots. I've made peace with it and love them anyway.

I have not had a problem with this. I have the Aquatalia Undy - they are stretch woven leather and are the best fitting shaft ever. Super fitted and sleek everywhere. Also I have the Ariat Challenge Contour. Emily I read the fit info too from Ariat. I was in the zone, ok thy will be done, but I get the ABS footbed, so I'm making piece with drop. But my boots never dropped. They are still pristine and they do fit amazingly well. I would think it depends on the leather and the fit in the ankle. Also whether the lacing on the boot above gives you enough tension. I do prefer a very sleek fit and perhaps I've been lucky. I also have the stuart weitman chicboots and the stretch suede does not do that. Good luck. Lovely boots!!

I've mostly made peace with it. Part of the "sagging" is simply what happens when you move your ankle. You can't walk or drive without being able to flex your foot forward and back, and folds develop that way as boots break in. A perfectly smooth boot is a boot that hasn't been walked in.

I was just watching the fitting videos for tall boots at the Ariat site and they spoke of adding 2" to the measured boot height to accommodate slump. Does the lacing not make it possible take up the stretch better than a solid shaft?

What bothers me most about the ankle scrunch is that the extra folds feel tight around and above the ankles and leave marks on my legs. I recently returned a very nice pair of OTK boots for that reason. I do not want my footwear or boots to restrict my circulation, regardless of how beautiful (or not) the shoes/boots may be.

I can't remember if there has already been a discussion or blog post on this subject, but I wondered how all of you felt about the unattractive ankle sagging that happens on many tall boots. I'm not talking about boots that are meant to be scrunched, but rather straight boots that loosen around the ankle.

I ask because I just ordered a pair of these stunners which look sleek and badass. But then I saw a photo of a celebrity wearing them and did not like the way they ripple around her ankles.

Do you just have to make peace with tall boots doing wonky things like this? Do you avoid tall boots, for this reason?
