What Irina said!

As for myself, my ankle booties were starting to feel a little tired, BUT I don't think it was necessarily the booties per se, but the whole styling ... like the cropped jeans plus low ankle boot plus but of skin showing, etc., etc. I do currently wear my ankle booties with my full length jeans. I am definitely more on board with the styling angle ... like if the styling is somewhat current then the individual pieces don't have to be evaluated too harshly.

I also totally agree if they suit YOUR style then trends be damned!

[CGInc. aside and not to start a whole thing - although I am interested in their opinion on certain things, the rate at which that company churns through trends - things have gone out and come back in in the last 4 months by their accounting - has me really doubting the level of real expertise vs. salesmanship. We can all go to the "what's new" page on Artizia.com, that's not hard So all that to say, their take is useful as far as it goes but is certainly limited in usefulness by my estimation!)

I passed along a couple of pairs of almond toe booties last year because I just wasn’t feeling them anymore. I prefer a pointier toe OR a round toe on a chunkier profile like a combat boot. Almond toes were feeling a bit neither-here-nor-there for me and my style.

Re: CG, she makes her living by advising on the cutting edge of trends. Once I look at her advice in that context, I can roll my eyes at many parts of it and happily wear my “dated” items by mixing them with other more current pieces. I enjoy following a few style influencers, but I only take the tidbits that resonate with me, whether it’s CG or Trinny or Carla Rockmore or whoever!

I will never give up my booties, although I prefer a higher shaft. Tall boots are harder to fit, harder to find, and harder to style with a wider variety of pants, in my experience. Oh, and harder to store too!

I love this Bijou!! (I know other people have said similar things as well)

"I like to know what a fashion stylist's view is on different items and what is currently considered the 'in look'. I am 100% fine with wearing items that are considered dated, as long as they are consistent with my personal style. I like to combine my signature items with other more current trend pieces in evolving my personal style."

That's exactly how I feel! That's what puts the personal in personal style. And it's fun to hear someone with a strong point of view even if I don't 100% agree. It's almost part of the challenge to me to keep wearing my beloved piece but tweak it so it feels fresh - that's my very favourite part of fashion and style.

Jessikams, thanks for posting this, I like to know what a fashion stylist's view is on different items and what is currently considered the 'in look'. I am 100% fine with wearing items that are considered dated, as long as they are consistent with my personal style. I like to combine my signature items with other more current trend pieces in evolving my personal style.

Boots will always be a part of my wardrobe, I love them - they are my favourite footwear. With my hot climate knee high boots are too warm to wear except in winter and for that reason I have only one pair and many lower shaft boots. I will keep wearing my ankle and lower shaft boots for this reason. Of my black boots, my pearl lace up boots are a signature item with wardrobe longevity for me regardless of current trends.

Hmmm I really think it’s an issue of how much storage space you have, and whether passing them on will leave you with a wardrobe hole.
They’re cute booties, but, sounds like you are really on the fence about them.
Maybe an outfit workshop? See if you can come up with some interesting combos to freshen them up?

Fwiw I am a flat chelsea boot girl… they’re not the most trendy but I think they’re fairly classic. Either a very low or a very high, tall shaft boot isn’t my cup of tea.
I had thought of investing into the lug soled boot trend this winter… but I’m now thinking no. I just don’t love the look of lug soles that much, I think I’m pretty happy to sit that one out for now.
I’m the same with loafers, yes they’re on trend now, but I just don’t like the look of them for myself, so I’m not buying in. Influencers would be horrified!

Goodness I think I bought my first pair of ankle booties in 1997 and have never ever been without a pair since! In fact I wonder how I got to age 36 ( in 1997) without a pair?! I had had tall boots x2 prior to that.
I have 6, 5 are short shaft and 1 high shaft and you will prize my faves out of my cold, dead hands.

I love my ankle boots, particularly a very inexpensive black high-heeled pair. They go with EVERYTHING! What Indigoprint said! Also, if indoors for most of the day, knee-high boots make me feel hot and uncomfortable.

Some of my favorite boots are ankle length and they are staying. Under long pants no one knows the difference and a similarly colored sock solves the problem of skin when you sit. That said higher shafts are easier in that regard and I like them too. I would say most of my boots are pointed toe - that is my preference and I find them very comfortable. But I am not getting rid of any shoes that are still in good shape, are comfortable and I like. Trends, and proclamations, come and go.

Well just fer saying influencers make their livelihood by influencing people to buy what they recommend. So there is that.... and if one is happy with what they have they will not go out and buy new more " current " stuff that supports said influencers lifestyle.

Ha! I love how people presume to try to dictate everyone else's style. Ankle boots are not "out", nor have they ever been. Yes, there have been times when particularly short shafts were more common, then slightly taller ones, but I shope shoes a lot, and they are ALWAYS available.

Now, if yours aren't feeling fresh to you and you are favoring something else, that's great! Change it up and get what is calling to you. Don't keep what doesn't make you happy. But to get rid of them because some rando proclaims them unfashionable? No.

As someone with athletic claves, I've always favored ankle boots because I don't have to worry about fitting a higher shaft. Additionally, taller boots are incredibly uncomfortable to me to wear under pants; they're very impractical in that sense. IMO, tall boots are meant to be seen, meaning that I need ankle boots with pants that I don't intend to tuck into boots.

Regarding the foot shape aspect of this discussion, I have Birkenstock-shaped feet, so almost no shoes are "shaped like feet"... except Birkenstocks.

I am not wearing my ankle boots as much as I used to and I don’t plan any more new ones this year.

I did wear my lace up ones a lot last winter - I found them really practical. With the black camel and navy I have my bases covered but these date from 2019 and earlier….. not fashion forward.

I don’t think pointy toes or kitten heels are right for my style even though I do like them!

If I buy boots this year I think it would be tall flat ones…. I only have one tall pair and they are brown suede and suede is limiting.

I think here it’s either the chunky lug sole route or the edgier pointy style as being more fashion forward.

LOL, Sarah -- the only reason I moved on from those Blondos is that I wore them out in a year and then part of the next year's season. Yep. To be fair I wore them every single day for at least part of the day. They served me well!

Toe shapes apparently vary -- this is even before we warp them with our fashion shoes and/ or our sport/ dance activities. ;) Looking at the diagrams you can see how and why an almond toe might feel natural to some and horrid to another, as well as why some people would really love a square or round toe for comfort.

This is how I feel, Jessikams:

ANKLE BOOTS FOREVER :)

What Suz said about comfort and our climate. When it works - it works!

Jessikams, your boots might not work now for some of the reasons you mentioned. Weather, too high heels, comfort, perhaps? And if you aren't into classic almond toes anymore - time to refresh. But if you like almond toes - please wear then with a happy heart!

My booties have high shafts though. Not wearing low shaft ankle boots because they aren't versatile for my style. None are black. Most are snip-toe, and some pointy toe. Here is my bootie capsule:

I ignore the shoe in and out pronouncements, there is a finite number of shoe designs, and just when you have tossed something it will come back in.

Oh No! We have Offended the Great and Powerful CG, the Sole Arbiter of Fashion and Absolute Truth! We must be banished At Once to Siberia for the Great Sin of wearing (horrified gasp) AnKlE BooTs

Re: toes, mine are slanted a lot towards the big toe- so the almond, pointy toes are more neutral than round or square toes. YMMV of course! I tried square toe sandals and it looked really odd to have my pinkie toes with over an inch of shoe space in front.

Well, to prove Suz's point, I strongly prefer round toed shoes for me, and that's been a consistent preference for probably two decades or more, trends be darned. Even some almond toes can feel "too pointy" to me!

I agree that a higher shaft can be more versatile/practical but I'm not opposed to a lower shaft if the other characteristics are right. I actually just tracked down a pair of short shaft, round toe ankle boots on ebay to replace an identical pair I own and have worn out (Blondo Caylas, which I think Suz and I both owned -- she has probably moved on, I obviously haven't lol!) I looked and looked this past winter but couldn't find anything I liked nearly as well to replace them, so-- there you have it.

ETA: And I simply cannot wear kitten heels at all, I fall right off them even if the heel is like 1" or less! I have to have support at the back edge of my heel for stability. So, I'll just be over here in my block heeled footwear, again trends be darned!

For your ankle boots, it does sound as though you've moved on a bit and that's fine. Unless they are in pristine condition or beloved, I suspect that if/when the trend comes around again you'll rather have something new than turn back to those old boots.

Can you do the "when would I choose to wear these?" test with your future climate/milieu in mind? That could give you a better sense of whether they're truly likely to be useful on the other end of your move

Such a nutty “ fashion” pronouncement. I know it’s just part of celebrity- sales- type talk, but it’s just one more thing that promotes dissatisfaction. Don’t need it.

I agree, both almond and pointy are NOT foot-shaped. Sure, many feet can tolerate that. Mine used to. And my “ eye” still likes some of those shapes with trousers. But I’m creating different outfits now.

I think it’s perfectly all right for individuals to decide they don’t like a certain shoe or any wardrobe item and feel they’ve moved on. And of course that “ moving on” may be subtly or deliberately based on what’s showing up at retail or on fashion sites. But it’s best if it’s something that really resonates- for whatever reason, because, style changes and is fun, creative - and fits your own sensibilities.

Comfort will always beat style for me. My black ankle boots took so long to find and are very comfortable, easy to wear, lightweight, and so they’ve earned their keep for me. I guess only you can decide if they are serving you well.

I only might consider if a shoe is trendy when buying a new pair. If you have it already, the question is not are they trendy but do you love them and how do they fit. Would you want to take them with you if you move?

I totally agree with Suz - do you wear them? Are they still comfy? Maybe you would rather make space for some boots that you love. If they fill a hole then maybe keep until you have a better replacement.

Very off topic, but no, almond shape isn't the shape of feet! Our toes are meant to flare out almost, and require a roomier toebox than conventional shoes tend to have! Pressing toes into almond shapes (or worse, pointy toe) is recipie for disaster further down the lane. My hammer toes can confirm. Sorry to derail
