bumping for Angie's opinion on the gilet for me...inspired by Suz.

Lisa: thanks for the pencil skirt compliment--I am actually not that confident about how I look in them, given my pear shape. I feel like pencil skirts look very different on me than on rectangular figures who usually model them.

That gilet is nice on you, but I agree it's too long. And look at that pencil skirt, I wish skirts looked that good on me! For my bum it hugs too much, but here, it's lovely on you! You rock a pencil skirt.

Muffin: yes, as Marilyn mentioned, it's like a wool winter coat without the sleeves. I think I'd be likelier to get it if it were made out of gabardine...

Suz: I'm curious to know what you'll think when you get it! I do think it's one of those pieces that might be more suitable in SF or Seattle--it's essentially the designer/fashionable version of one of those puffy or quilted vests people wear out there.

Staysfit: I'm sure it looks wonderful with that dress! But do you find the wool a little too heavy for indoors? I do agree with you that it is a piece that shouldn't date.

Skylurker: thank you!

Firecracker: I agree with you about the difficulty of vests, which is why I don't really own any And glad we agree on the low rise--I prefer the medium rise that's becoming more prevalent these days.

The long vest is gorgeous, and would look fantastic about knee length on you. Personally I'd find it a difficult to piece to wear, just because my life is so much more casual. Also, I am a bit ambivalent about vests, as my arms get cold come November and stay that way till the following summer. Still, that doesn't keep me from buying vests and wearing them when I can.

I'm excited for you to get the Barbour jacket, and fingers crossed that the fit is just right. It's such a gorgeous color, and I think it will fantastic on you and go with your wardrobe.

Good call on the jeans--I think pocket placement is a big deal, too, and I'm with you on the low rise (although I think those Hudsons look great on you!)--I don't really feel like buying more low rise now. I'll wear the ones I have, but all my newer jeans are a little higher rise, and I'm liking them.

Oh, and I love that peplum top you have on in these photos--it's really pretty on you!

Oh, I didn't realize it was a thicker wool (in my head I was picturing suiting/gabardine)- that does make it more difficult...
Fingers crossed for you on the Barbour. I have a completely different style (more barn jacket) that I sized up in to accommodate layers. Glad you saw the color in person!

I checked out the gillet today. Lots of sizes at the Ottawa store. It's lovely but quite heavy. It seemed like a winter coat without sleeves.

Yes, that is the thing with it -- it's a statement piece yet a quiet one that will have longevity in a closet. So it might be worth it. Only one way for any of us to find out and that is by playing in the closet!!

I love the gilet on you but agree it's a bit long. I'm not sure how hard it would be to shorten. In terms of appropriateness for our climate, I plan to play around with it tomorrow. I originally tried it on over top of a green Tracy Reese dress and it looked so good I wanted to have glossy photos taken to send to all the modeling agencies! He he (just kidding of course). It's a great piece right now to keep me from freezing when the a/c is blasting.

I have an equipment blouse this exact color which started the wheels spinning. I'm thinking it could work over a lightweight silk blouse. Whether it works will help me decide if it's worth the hefty price. I suspect it's a piece I will have a long time.

oh yes, UmmLila. I am 100% convinced that the Barbour jacket will fill a hole for me if it fits me well. I did see it in person today...in a size 12. It's a lovely dusty rose color and is fairly thick and warm and should be good for late fall and much of spring. I'm a little worried from the online reviews that it runs so small that the size 4 would be too small, but there were no 6s available in the entire country. Only 2 size 4s, one in the Midwest and one in CA.

Suz: yes, I am not sure how easy it will be to style the gilet in our climate. But it's a beautiful piece. I wonder how Staysfit will style hers?

I think you should hold out for the Barbour jacket fitting you well. I really like the way the long vest works but I think it's impracticable for the New England climate most of the time. If you can come up with a few outfits it would work with and a time of year that you won't be too cold, then go for it.

Muffin and kkards: the issue of how I'd wear it (especially given how spendy it is) is a big one. It's made of a heavy wool so it feels a bit more "outer-wear" than expected.

Oh, the vest is beautiful!! Re the length - Angie warned me I might have to shorten. That's okay --- it's not too difficult a job once I figure out the length. If I decide to keep, that is. I'm not sure I can justify the expense of this.

Just for fun...fit and construction are superb except for length on me. (Pics 1&2). This is a size 2 and fit me perfectly except for length.

Pic 3: Caslon denim shirt in XS. Really silky material but looked meh.

Pic 4 and 5: Boss lightweight wool pencil skirt in size 4. Fit was good but had no need for an expensive pencil skirt. Anyone looking for a suit should try the Boss stuff, the color and cut are superb.

Pic 6 and 7: Dres in size 25, Yesler. Fit me like a skinny jean. I didn't bother trying the higher size because I don't like the pocket placement.

Pics 8 and 9: gray Hudson skinny jeans in 26. Very skinny low rise pants. The low rise seems a bit dated at this point.

I had them order the Barbour jacket in a size 4 in store from another store in the Midwest! Fingers crossed it fits.

Also I saw the AGL oxfords in burgundy and loved them. On order as well because the store didn't have my size.

So I have finally shopped in a Nordstrom store for the first time ever but still am ending up with packages shipped to me, and nothing coming home with me.

The only standout item that I tried was the Rag and Bone gilet--but I don't know if it would be alterable for me. Also not sure if I should buy an almost $400 wool vest...
