I really like your jacket, the colour is one of my 'cheerful' colours. You look nice and bright next to the colourful elephant! I do enjoy travel posts particularly, thanks for sharing your capsule. Looked like it all worked well together.

Thanks Adelfa and Brooklyn. I can't imagine being hot on the plane. Maybe that explains the people travelling in shorts and thongs (flip flops!) I think I have a new record for number of days to wear the orange jacket : )

Sigh! I am always hot on the plane! But
Melbourne weather is so unpredictable, you have to prepare for anything. Once I went in January (mid summer) and the top temperature each day was 16 degrees. I think your capsule had everything covered. I am glad you had a great time and got to wear your lovely orange jacket.

Delurked, I also find it harder to pack for holidays with family. We're often doing a greater variety of activities, and I like to have some exercise clothes as well.
Thanks Robin and Suz, we did have a good time. On previous trips i have borrowed a black coat, and felt lost in the sea of black! The bright colour gives me a lift. I thought you might like the colour, Diane : )
Rachy, I think the coat is a wool blend, with a poly lining. It worked really well for me, now that I've figured out that it's outerwear, and not an indoor topper (I told you winter clothing is a foreign concept! ) When I need to replace it, I think I will look for a petite fit, but I'm happy for now as I can only really wear it when I travel.

It sounds like you had a lovely time and took a fab capsule of clothing with you. I adore that lovely pumpkin toned coat, you look great in it! I'm like you with packing...I always take a few more items than I need because I like to have options.

I love travel capsules too! I'm interested in your jacket... Did it work well for you? What kind of jacket is it?

I'm glad your capsule worked so well for you. I agree - a scarf can make the difference between being warm or cold. Your coat is very cute on you!

What a fabulous travel capsule! You look fantastic in your jacket and I love the fun touches of leopard print and dots. I have learned that travelling with a bright jacket can be the biggest mood lifter possible!

That's a nice jacket. I like the concept of neutrals plus a strong colored jacket. And then picking up color in accessories.

I find I can put together a fairly cohesive and succinct capsule if I'm sightseeing on a trip. I struggle to edit down when I'm seeing a lot of family - it makes me want to bring a lot more options, and items that don't always coordinate.

Lots of Fabbers planning trips at the moment, and I really like the travel posts. So here's mine.
I recently had a few days in Melbourne, and enjoyed some Australian winter weather.
My DS and I travelled together and took one piece of checked luggage for us both, which weighed in at 13kg. I don't think I could have packed in a carry on, though.
Our accomodation had the luxury of a washer and dryer, and my son commented that we had enough clothes to stay indefinitely! I did have more than I really needed, but I wanted to have some options, and a second pair of shoes in case it was really rainy and we got wet.
Temps were around 10 -15 C and in true Melboune fashion it was sunny, cloudy, rainy and windy. (For reference, we came home to 28C!)

Outfits were
Denim dress, black fleece lined tights, black boots. Orange jacket when needed.
Jeans, black tee, scarf and jacket. Pink rain jacket over the top. Colour clash, but warm! Pewter sneakers.
Black skinnies, chambray shirt, leopard scarf and jacket, black boots over skinnies, which minimises the gap at my calf.
Lounge wear of cream cardi, which was nice to wear inside, and black soft pants ( hardly worn)
Not pictured: 2 camis, underwear, socks and pyjamas.
Accessories: 2 scarves, belt, beanie and gloves. New cheap big bag to lug everything in. (DS also had a backpack)

What I have learnt from YLF and a couple of trips in the last 12 months:
(Basic knowledge to those of you in cold climates)
* it's usually warm enough inside for me to wear a long sleeved shirt with a Cami under, no jacket needed.
* a raincoat keeps the wind out, too.
* adding a scarf keeps me much warmer
* put gloves on before you feel really cold
* it is Always cold on the plane.

I'm pleased to say I did stay warm and had appropriate clothes for our activities. I saw lots of light denim/black skinnies outfits : )
We had a great trip. We used lots of public transport, and walked lots, and had very friendly staff / volunteers help us whenever needed.

Thanks for any comments.
