Love Vivienne Files. Her templates are so good and she writes so well. I am going to have fun plugging in my clothes.

Emily -- that is a wonderful idea. I adore the idea of planning around a temperate capsule and then building out. I wonder if this would work. Nothing in what I consider my temperate closet is currently part of my 30 x 30 challenge. I selected that capsule based purely on the anticipation of hot, hot weather. This is truly something to think about though. Thank you for the suggestion.

I'd started to do this on my own--not using the "Whatever's Clean 13", but organizing my wardrobe into a temperate group flanked by a cold-weather capsule and a hot weather capsule both of which would be intermixed as needed with the temperate grouping. This led to a real d'oh! moment when I realized that, while the hot and cold capsules both needed to work with the temperate group, they did NOT need to work with each other. D'oh!, right? This led to thoughts about increasing the seasonality my closet (which is 100% neutral right now) through incorporating more color by purchasing short sleeve tees and shirts in bright summer palette and long sleeve tees and shorts in rich autumnal palette. Further, since summer tees don't last that long, I could enjoy shopping and freshen up my look each summer by indulging in a new batch of short sleeve tees in whatever trendy color I fancy. Less so with the autumnal/winter long sleeved shirts.

I thought of you immediately when I read Janice's post. I agree, we both need casual and work capsules so 128 is much more reasonable than 52 for our life styles. I'm going to have fun this summer filling out the templates she provided. Hopefully, there will be follow on posts that take me even further.

Thank you, Sterling, I just read it. I usually read vivianne files regularly but currently I have only sporadic internet access on my iPfone and YLF gets priority :)
This article is just in line with my current attempt to create the template for my whole wardrobe. I have actually used vivianne files 4x4 wardrobe template to create my capsules. 52 items is way to low for me to cover all season and both work and casual. So I decided on 8 capsules and that would make 128 items wardrobe , not counting shoes and accessories but I have numbers for that too;) . I have already made excel spreadsheet with all the slots and filled them with my current items. It is now obvious to me which items don't fit, what is missing etc. I think this is great approach for my analytical mind.

Actually, Emily K, I had the same exact thought. I started plugging in items yesterday evening. I only got a little ways through (i.e., it got late and I got tired).

I decided, and tell me if you think this is wrong, that I needed a seasonal template for both work and for casual. I spend all my money and most of my time shopping for work clothes (and I only go to the office now three days a week). Consequently, my casual capsule suffers and I bemoan its weakness and lack of depth. A template would literally force me to start filling out my casual capsule.

Good idea, Joy. I hadn't even considered that. I was just thinking about an exchange Anchie and I had recently and Janice's post was timely. I had not thought to read the comments (perhaps there were none when I read the original post). I'll go back this morning and catch up.

That's a great link, Sterling! I read The Vivienne Files, but hadn't yet seen this post. This is exactly how I think about things, but I am so glad for the chance to have someone else in the driver's seat. You can bet that I'm going to be plugging-in my items of clothing to see how it all works out.

I saw this on the Vivienne Files this morning. I'm not sure the link works, but the date of the post is July 5, 2017. You should be able to find it it with ease.

http://www.theviviennefiles.com

Her post today was especially informative given our exchange on seasonal shops.

Hope your vacation is going well and the weather is cooler.
