He’ always been pretty peculiar about his personal style and does not like it when his pants cover up his shoes. In hindsight he was spot-on predicting a new trend (though mainly for women). He’s pretty tall and like I said, wears pants slightly too short, not ankle lenghth or anything. The first one (of you) is my favourite.</p> <p>Short pants and shrunken suits are big in The Big City, especially in the downtown banking and insurance sector where I work. Groomed hair (short sides, longer top, fade in back) and tidy beards are big. Not so much hipster as 'metro sexual'. I think the shrunken suit/short pant works better on a shorter man with a trim build. Older gents dress more conservatively, but coordinating shirts, ties, and socks is popular. Regardless, I enjoy a well dressed man and the colour is fun!</p> <p>My menfolk, like Janet's DH, are tall - all over 6ft 3in with troublesomely long inseams. I guess this phenomenon is not limited to the Bay Area. It’s probably more an indication of how out of touch I am with the hipster age group. My circle is pretty much limited to people my age or in my industry (construction, which is not known for caring about fashion) or teenagers/young adults (age of my kids.) I do think some men pull it off better than others.<br />@Echo: Lol! This reminds me of a friend of ours who is in his mid 50s who wears suits to work and is always talking about having to get clothes altered to fit. It blew us away that all his pants were hemmed too short--we were scratching our heads wondering what kind of tailor would shorten pants so that the socks would show when standing up. Little did we know, he was the one with fashion sense!<br />@rachy: Lol at the mapris--male capris. I find this to be true at our Trader Joes. All of the young men seem to wear them. We had hail the other day too but the office has been so overheated that as long as I stay inside, I’m good!<br />@Cardiffgirl: Thanks! Most days I sport jeans with button downs. These are the few days where I don’t. <br />@Aquamarine: Thanks! I really have enjoyed the OTKs. I thought they were best with shorter dresses but I even wear them with my longer ones. I live in a more rural area than where I work and the only short pants on men I see around here are at Trader Joe’s! As reluctant as I was to get black boots (so predictable,) they have turned out to be indispensable because they go with almost everything. It must be my hair. But one of my friends who is my age has been wearing that same look for as long as I’ve known him (15+ years) and he rocks it. It’s sort of a preppy hipster twist. I don’t mind it at all. My husband won’t do that look because a) it’s not him, and b) he’s always been so tall that short pants hold negative connotations to him, they just feel like floods, like he couldn’t find pants long enough. That may be part of why I’m not a huge fan of cropped pants on myself either. Too many years of wearing too-short pants unintentionally. </p> <p>I don’t begrudge any man of any age the ability to dress in a trend. Are we judging women for shifting into high waisted crops after years of low rise skinnies? Why should women be the only ones who get to follow trends?
