I hope they work out for you. Maxi dresses are one of those things that I never wear but seems like they would work great for my climate. I haven't figured out exactly what my problem with them is though - kudos to you for knowing exactly what the issue is.

Yep, as much as people talk about breezy maxis, they can be hot. And if not, often the fabrics are too sheer so you need to add a slip.
But, ears perk up about asymmetrical ones

Pretty dresses. I had a maxi epiphany last summer and a few found their way into my closet too. I was traveling in Tokyo in high heat and humidity and the only thing I could wear without dying was a swimsuit coverup.

I also discovered the Jockey cooling skimmies worked well underneath. https://www.zappos.com/p/jocke.....ecd674a3cb

I like the idea of these dresses a LOT, abc. Those asymmetrical midi hemlines are very practicable and flattering. Hope they work out.

What an interesting observation. Yes, those heavy knit ones can sort of swamp the legs, can’t they?

Kellygirl, the ones I remember being so hot were cotton or poly. I just remember them being thick and hot. These are rayon except for the no slit one. I even thought about having it modified if needed. I’ve never had a high low hem dress!
Joy, I plan on wearing boy shorts with them. they probably won’t be beach cover ups but will be worn at the beach and here in the summer, hopefully.
Jenn, I totally admire you for trying to buy ethically and in naheal fibers. I didn’t want to spend a lot on something I wasn’t sure was going to work for me. So I went cheap with these. If they work I’ll probably be in your boat looking for something that doesn’t exist!
Suz, you guys are right. Noe my eye sees the no slit ones and thinks they look odd. I may alter the one if it is a keeper. The rest all have the opening already there. Thanks for the good luck wishes!

What Jenn said. It's similar to a hi-low kind of hem that way. I hope these work for you!

Having a slit or hi-lo front helps with the uni-leg effect too. I have found that style of maxi kind of hard to find in natural fibers, though! Not sure why...it seems like a no-brained that people might want it.

I agree with Kellygirl about polyester being hot and only wear it on cold winter days. Are you going to wear the dresses over a swim suit or shorts? be sure to do a sitdown test to see how much is revealed.

Lol! I think it depends on fabrication too. Wearing polyester can make it feel like your lower half is in a sauna! You can also modify the maxi to a high low--it's an easy alteration. High low hems are my favorite summer style dress.

The few maxi dresses I've ever had I had the embarassing problem of needing air flow to the legs and ahem, nether region. I felt suffocated in them and could never make them work, though I love the idea and look and layer-ability with a jean jacket over the top.

I had an a-ha moment while perusing F21 site when I found maxi dresses with a slit or opening in the front! Yay! I think these will work for me, filling a hole for the high summer hot days we have for 1-2 months here. Usually I just suck it up and wear jeans or crop pants. So if this works, they’ll really be great additions.

I also went for a couple off the shoulder and wide open necklines, because I know those usually work for me.

One non-vented (!! haha) maxi did find its way into my cart, the original one mentioned (pic 4) by a blogger that I fell in love with at first sight. I'm hoping I can make it work, or wear it in less hot weather.

Here are the ones that are on the way to me. Cross fingers!

All of these were spurred by an upcoming beach trip, but if I can wear maxis in my daily life in summer, all the better! Wish me luck. Thanks for reading and any comments are welcome!

ETA: used YLF collect but didn't work, is that a glitch with F21 or me?
