I hope some designers are listening in on this thread, hint, hint, hint! Like many others, when I want to make a quick run out, I don't want to always have to carry a hand bag. Keys, wallet, iPhone are all things that need space. I remember Angie's article in that there are some parts of the world where your phone is a part of your wardrobe, you wear it. Now if there is a similar solution for keys and wallet ... I love the pockets as long as they dont bulge and destroy the silhouette. As a teacher, I constantly need to carry around my keys, cards, phone, wallet, pen... I prefer not to carry a handbag, and in the winter this works because I always have a coat or jacket with pockets, and I mostly wear pants, which also usually have pockets. I don't need to carry much stuff. But in the warmer months -- as soon as it's warm enough for bare legs -- I like to wear skirts, and for some reason those rarely seem to have pockets. The worst thing ever was to have a pocket bulge or to have change jingling in one's pocket; it was unfeminine and unbecoming. So there's my baggage surrounding pockets. However, I do a lot of assessments at work, so I need to carry either my phone to use as a timer or a timer. I normally wear a blazer in order to do so, as I clearly do not carry a purse in school. But regardless, pockets in something I am wearing are essential because although I carry a portfolio with all my other materials (papers, pencils, etc.), a timer won't fit anywhere except in a pocket. I happen to love the pockets along the vertical inside edge of men's jackets, but women's clothes never have the same options. He refused to wear them because they didn't have pockets! After getting him pants with pockets, I had to empty the pockets every laundry day. They were always full of "treasures". I don't fill my pants pockets with treasures, but I do like to carry a piece of kleenex at the very least. I'm very particular about the pockets my jackets have. This is another argument for my baggy pants. They always have generous pockets. Putting on my designer/dressmaker hat for a second though, I'm not always that wild about pockets in other garments. They're very useful of course, but there needs to be a lot of structure if you need to carry more than a tissue. Then again, dress pockets are great for carrying tissues. You always need tissues. Just remember to take them out in the wash. In addition, I generally do not like the feeling of actually having anything heavy in a pocket (a credit card is fine - but a wallet and keys are too much).
