I think the shorts and shoes look terrific but I think a different top would make it easier - maybe a similar shade or different sleeves. I do like the floral and stripes together though.

I think the shorts and the tucking work though.

Thanks for this post Emily, it helped me to do my outfit where I tucked a top. Yours looks lovely and summery! I would like to see shorter sleeves as well, like some others.

I love the print combo and think your outfit is great. I agree with those who say the sleeve length might be throwing the look off a bit.

I'm another fan in thrall of your print combo! Three different prints in a totally harmonious, cool combination. (I'm taking notes...)

I also feel that waist definition is a matter of getting used to, not just visually but physically (I'm not a fan of the feeling of constricting, high waist lines). In the beginning I always thought it looked odd but know I find that longer tops hanging down to my hips are a bit off. And as a long-waisted, short-legged person, I always wanted my legs to look a mile long like yours! (I thought it was amusing when I lived in Germany and they had this expression "legs up to the neck"--it was their ideal of beauty).

Having said this, I agree with Rachylou that maybe the long sleeves are throwing it off; three-quarter or short sleeves might work better?

I just bought a pair of silky shorts like this, and already I never want to take them off. So comfy! So cute! You look great.

YLF is the only forum I participate in because members here are so amazing at giving both honest feedback AND encouragement! Thank you for compliments, greycat6, Jussie, and Becky- your kind words motivate me to keep wearing this look and letting my eye adjust to the new silhouette. Racheylou and Zibbets, the horizontal stripes probably do shorten my already short waist- I think I’ll also try a polka dot top with the shorts. And Angie, I so admire you and your work. A look you sign off on is a major winner in my book!

You look great! I love the pattern mix!

My guess is that your shorts are on the high-waisted side, and I think you might have a shorter midsection and longer legs, so this (adorable) outfit doesn't quite hit the golden mean of 1/3 to 2/3 proportions. It's still a great outfit!

Works well. Nicely done.

I think you have to use to yourself with a defined waist. That’s all.

You're right that the high waist/tucking combo has an entirely different look than what has been the "norm" for years now. It does give your legs a mile-long look. I love the way you've mixed patterns here.

Hmm. You know, I think the longness of the sleeves and the shortness of the shorts sorta squishes you visually in the torso.... but I have to say I like stripes and floral together.

I think it looks very cute. I also find it a big change to get used too, having a tucked top. And whether it’s successful or not depends on what the bottom part of the outfit is like..... it’s complicated. But you look great here

I do know what you mean about adjusting your eye. Your legs look a mile long here and the pattern mixing is fun. Well done!

Silhouettes with undefined waists have been dominant for so long that I honestly don’t remember what a defined waist is supposed to look like! I’m excited about fresh styles with tucked and cropped tops, belts, etc., but the proportions feel odd when I see myself in the mirror. Is that because I’m doing it wrong, or is it because my eye has not yet adjusted to the look? I think I’m a rectangle or an apple, so my waist isn’t particularly well-defined naturally.
