There are some trends that I like on others but know that they aren't right for me. And of course there are some that I really don't like on anyone!  I like fun, fashion sneakers a lot but I will never wear sneakers/trainers (the bulky ones that look like true sports gear) as a regular shoe. I LOVE booties and doubt I will ever give them up. I was really risk-averse because I knew I'd have to wear the clothing for a long time. Now that I've adopted a few more stylish, for-me-cutting-edge clothing items, I feel more confident out in the world, so I think I'll continue to try to get in a bit earlier on the trends. I finally get on board with a trend and then wonder how long it will last! I bought two pairs of heeled sandals with an ankle strap the other day; I think those have been around for at least two years. I actually liked them from the start but just never bought any. I also bought my first pair of mules, a type of shoe that I have been seeing on YLFers for at least a year. I hated those at first...it took me awhile to warm up to them. And I just bought a pair of ballet flats too. I've been wearing them a lot. I don't think that ballet flats will ever go completely out of style, since they're just too darn practical. I'm not super stylish and hip.  2. I'm not able to keep those kinds of shoes on my feet in any case. They do not stay on me any better than ballet flats do.  3. It's too cold in my winters to wear socks with that type of shoe. You really need proper boots if you are outdoors at all for at least 4 months a year. Maybe more. Even booties are too lightweight/ not protective enough. (My booties become my "indoor" shoes in winter).  But, by all means -- let those who can play with socks and loafers have at it. I will enjoy watching from the sidelines and snorting at seasonal confusion. I bought my first pair of tall boots in 2013. My first pair of skinnies and very low rise anything also happened in 2013. My first booties were bought last year, but I ended up returning them when I had foot surgery. I have a NAS pair that I'm considering for this year. Pre-YLF, I wore mid rise straight and bootcut jeans. I wore cropped/ankle pants. I wore long cardis. I wore mules (major surprise that these are back from Angie's recent post). I wore loafers and pointy-toe flats. I did a WIW in light denim the other day and commented that they felt 70s to me. Angie said they were 90s instead. I totally missed them in the 90s.
