A cardigan over this fabric would definitely be too much sweater.

As for the white shirt comment, I was thinking a white button up shirt over the dress with a waist cinching belt. Maybe I'm grasping at straws, but other than with a jacket, I couldn't come up with a way to wear this dress as the weather cooled.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I'll have to try it with a turtleneck to see how that looks as well.

Christie, I believe Angie meant (please correct me if I'm wrong) that cardigans shouldn't we worn over sweater-dresses, because it's to much of the same thing;
but with any other type of dress material cardigans are great! fro sweater-dresses jackets in woven fabrics should be better.

What should one wear over the dress to keep warm indoors if a cardigan is out? I suppose I'm just too attached to my cardigans, but I always have one at hand if I'm wearing short sleeves. I just get chilled to easily unless it is over 80 degrees.

Nice dress Dani! You’d look great in either the claret or blue. Both work well with the brown boots. Trust me! A great little look with sheer brown tights.

Denim jacket is a good idea. How about a trench or coat the same length as the dress? You could add a lariat knotted scarf, or long string of beads. I would not encourage a cardigan. This look needs a change of texture. You need to try it over jeans – not sure about the length, but worth a bash.

I don’t see a white shirt over the dress, but perhaps I’ve misunderstood?

Dani, I think that claret color would work both with black and brown boots, I think shades of burgundy are great that way.

Whether you can wear it over the jeans will depend on how long it is on you. If it hits you a bit above the knee, than it should work.

I am not sure on white shirt over the dress, but I'd try the shirt under the dress, it might be a cute look.

Thanks for the suggestions. I guess I should have been more specific about the color of the dress and boots. I am drawn to the claret but the brown would work on me color wise. I'm concerned about the color of the boots with the claret dress.

Unfortunately, I don't have the legs to wear tights and booties, but I think it's a great look :)

Do you think I could wear this dress over straight leg jeans? What about with a white shirt over the dress?

Any other thoughts?

I think the red version of the dress would look better with the brown than the black. If you have other jackets, or if you can buy some, than you can come up with more than 3 ways to wear this. Would you consider thick grey or brown tights and some booties to be a different look. It's great for early fall.

i love those boots for the dress! what color are you getting the dress in? i would recommend the turquoise color. you could definitely wear that color with brown!

you could also try wearing it with a black turtleneck and black tights. maybe a big pendant necklace in gold.

you could definitely do a belt over the dress.

you could dress it up with some heels or ballet flats.

you could try a vest over it. that would be kinda funky and boho, but you could definitely pull it off. what a fun dress!

I've got it in my head from somewhere (no idea where so I could be way off on this theory) that you should be able to find three different ways to wear an item of clothing before purchasing that item.

I've been to BR and tried on this dress and really liked it, so now I'm wondering how else can I wear this other than as it's pictured on the model:
http://www.bananarepublic.com/.....pid=588089

I can probably wear it as is for most of the fall (we're pretty mild temperature wise).

I was thinking a denim blazer might work over it as the weather gets cooler. The sleeve style wouldn't be right for a cardigan. What other ideas do you guys have?

Also, I can see this with boots, but I'm planning on purchasing something like these:
http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/29440233/c/2898.html

I think black would look better with this dress but the color of the boots above would work better in my wardrobe.

Thanks for any suggestions!
