I am always nervous for any alteration. But the lady I go too always knows exactly what to do to make a garment fit better. Now that I type this...I realize I should visit her more often!

Good luck!

Ha, I have the same language barrier problem with my tailor. She always does a good job though. I just have to make sure she doesn't pin me too tight and she does fine.

I always feel like this when I drop stuff off for alterations. The woman always does a good job but she's Korean with a heavy accent and I'm never sure I'm getting my point across. Is she saying 'yes, yes' because she understands or because she doesn't want to talk to me anymore?

I'm glad you feel better now and hopefully they do a good job.

I did call. The lady wasn't in but her coworker talked with me. She said they don't put darts in like that unless the customer asks for it, but that the lady who fitted me would call tomorrow before doing the alteration. I explained I just wanted that original seam opened up and taken in. I think we are on the same wavelength.
I do feel better :)

Yikes -- yes, call. It couldn't hurt and may bring you some peace of mind. These are an investment piece for you so better safe than sorry.

If you're worried about sounding overly high maintenance, you can always say that you just want to understand exactly what's being done since you're not sure if you were clear in explaining it.

I have no experience with Nordstrom. So, I am saying this more from a normal person point of view. I think you should call . At least for your peace of mind. At the max they would say, "Yes, that's what we are planning on doing".

I dropped my leather/suede pants off at Nordstrom's yesterday to alter. The lady had a bit of a language barrier. We are hemming them to right where they would touch the ground if I were barefoot. Fine.
It's the back waist being taken in. She has 2 chalk marks on the band to show how much material needs to come in. But it's off to the left in the back and I'm now concerned. I want the middle seam opened down the back and the extra material taken in there. I'm starting to envision weird darts being put in or something. Should I call or just trust that she will take apart the existing seam?
