My lips — ah who am I kidding, really the entire lower half of my face (lines, sagging jawline, thin lips) — are not really where I should be putting the emphasis. I just don’t look great in dark or bright lip colors. I have more eye pencils than lipsticks. </p> <p>I just got a really good mlbb color — ELF’s Dirty Talk. A nice shade that just gives me a little definition and finish. I think that brings my total to five lipstick colors. I’m still mourning the discontinuation of MAC’s Sophisto. That was my go-to evening shade. There is something so appealing about the elegant gold tubes and cheery pencils. I am a fan of pencils myself, and own half a dozen lip pencils and another half dozen eye pencils. I also have a few near lipsticks, Clinique Black Honey and the like, which you can put on without a mirror. But I did a thorough clear out this year, getting rid of anything that wasn’t quite the right shade, was a bit too sparkly, smeared unnecessarily or had snuck some skin irritants into the formulation. I know what irritates my skin in skin care, but had never screened my makeup the same way. I spent a lovely morning on the makeup chemicals database sorting out the latter. I ended up with a very small stack of shadows. I bought a small palette from a greener brand to supply the missing colors.
