Thanks, Christie! That's very helpful. I'm assuming that since yours are buckled at the tightest setting, I should be able to get at least an extra half inch in there...

Frye does apparently make a wide-calf version (it's on their website, but I can't seem to link at the moment...), but it doesn't come in fun colors and I would be worried about the ankle being too huge..

Maya, skinnies tucked into boots is an intimidating look for me, but one I'd like to try out. Sorry, I didn't clarify well. I was just worried about the shorter pair you linked because I thought I read in a blog that mid-calf boots tend to visually cut your leg in half and thereby making them look shorter. I am just so confused about what boots look good with skinnies. I have 4 pairs of skinny pants that I've never worn out of the house because I don't know what shoes to wear with them. I'd like to get some boots that will be the most flattering on my size 10 bod. with skinnies, but still can be worn under boot-cuts because that's what I wear all the time. Make sense?

I had to find my sewing tape measure. My boots might be slouchier than the others posted because I can't get them to stand up on their own, so measuring was a bit challenging. Instead of measuring all the way around, I measured it laying down, like its folded in half. Hope this helps. Maybe others can add their measurements too.

ankle --- 10.5"-11"
mid-calf --- 14"
top --- 15" (buckled on smallest setting)

I have size 8.5. I wear an 8 or 8.5 depending on the shoe. This is a roomy fit at 8.5, but I like wearing thick socks in the winter.

Hi, all, this is my first post here =). I've been thinking about buying a pair of Veronicas for a while - thing is, I prefer last year's colors (the blue and the grey, specifically) which means (along with price, of course) I will probably have to turn to ebay or something like that (hence, non-returnable). What I am concerned about is the calf width - different sites like zappos, endless, etc all state wildly different measurements. I wonder if someone who actually owns a pair of these (in an 8 would be ideal) could actually measure the calf width for me? Also, since these are slouch boots, ankle width is not so important, but I'd still prefer something that's not huge on my tiny ankles.
For reference, I have 15.25" calves and 7.75" ankles, hence my concerns!

You mean tucked into skinnies? I am confused because above you said it was too intimidating of a look for you, so I thought you were planning to wear these with bootcuts exclusively.

I personally prefer the short version because I think they would look cute with skinnies and dresses, but at the same time, look more streamlined under bootcuts (and I would totally wear them with cute socks sticking out, but that's an acquired taste). I'm not uncomfortable with that height of boot, but some people are. I would be sure there are no weird bulges under your bootcuts though, if you decide to go with the tall version.

Maya, not a bad idea. I was hoping to wear them with both boot cut jeans and skinnies. How would the shorter ones look with skinnies? I've been contemplating a bootie to wear with my skinnies anyway because it feels more casual to me. But, I don't want to shorten my legs in booties either. KWIM?

Specifically, the Carson bootie in light brown. What do you think with skinnies and bootcuts?

I'm throwing a spanner here and saying if you're just going to cover them up with jeans, are they really worth it? These boots deserve to be on display.

If you're just going to cover them up anyway, I'd get the short version: http://www.amazon.com/FRYE-Wom.....B000S5S63K

Veronicas are great! I'd own them if I found the color I like.. Some time ago I ordered 4 (!) pair of Veronicas to compare colors and fit and I didn't really like any of them. I'd love the Slate but it's not in stock anywhere (I tried Vintage Brown in 2 sizes, Charcoal and Dark Distressed Brown).. I agree they're versatile and can be worn under the bootcuts as well, they don't really slouch at all...

Tara -- here's a pic of mine. This pic was taken over a year ago, when the boots were fairly new:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/c.....3/sizes/o/

Mine don't really slouch, not like the Rorys anyhow. The leather is much stiffer and thicker.

I'm wearing my Veronicas right now. I love them over my jeans, but since you asked I just pulled the straight legged jeans out of the boots. It seems to work fine. I quite like the feel of the leather on my leg! I think it would work just fine with bootcuts over.

I've got them in my Zappos cart, I'm just wondering if you can wear them with boot cut jeans too. Since they "slouch" does that nix them for wearing under boot cuts? I'm still warming up to the idea of tucking my jeans into my boots and would like the option to wear them under my straight leg pants and my boot cuts.
