Somehow I missed this thread. I loved seeing how everyone’s collections reflect their taste. I just found the Ralph Lauren puffer of my dreams on sale; it’s a southwest patterned vest I plan to wear at the cabin.

Thanks to Carla I have the cream Uniqlo puffer and I already had a navy Uniqlo puffer, a silver puffer vest, and olive vest and a long puffer coat. They are all my go-to items for the PNW.

Clearly, I collect puffers. Once I purchase one, it lasts a long time. Among the longer puffers, the oldest, is from Eddie Bauer. (Longer red), which I purchased in my early 20’s making it 30+ years old! I had another chocolate TNF puffer, a heavier weight but longer length than the puffers pictured. I wore it out and had to recycle it last year. The two remaining chocolate puffers are 15-20 years old, the silver Creenstone is maybe 8-10 years old, the Canada Goose is 3-4 years old, the green TNF is two years old, etc. I wear all of them.

The shorter puffers vary in age however, they do not seem to last as long as the longer length puffers. I added two of this length in 2021. My favorite is the turquoise TNF.

By count, I currently have, 6 midi/maxi length, 4 hip length, 2 vests. Total=12.

RunCarla, I really wanted this (lilac ) puffer but didn’t act fast enough before it sold out at Rack. I may have to make a visit to the store to see if there’s a wayward one.

Just 3 puffers for me! Not sure if the quilted one really counts as a puffer though.

The beige and black ones are lightweight- for above freezing weather. The beige one is packable too, supposedly. Haven't tried to but it came with a little bag. Hopefully not the tent/sleeping bag phenomenon!

The olive green is the newest and it's for the bitter cold days. I removed the hood cause 2 of my heads would fit in there

This is a new purchase which has detachable arms, so it converts to a vest. I have two old puffers that predate my time on YLF, the first is reversible, black one side and leopard print the other and a dressy cropped puffer evening jacket.

I have three puffers, all short jacket style rather than coat.

The navy snakeskin pattern one was a good buy for me and has been well worn.

I also have an old purple bomber style one (Northface) now worn for freezing early morning walks only as it is a bit marked.

I also have a vintage olive one which occasionally gets thrown on and a school colours one that I wear as a rugby manager.

I suspect I will always have a puffer jacket from now on as they are great for my climate and lifestyle.

Having greatly admired RunCarla in the stripped down (get it?) Uniqlo puffer, I am in the market for one. I have accumulated my fair share of hoodies, and I would like a ultralight collar-less jacket to wear over them. Maybe a vest, too.

I also am firmly against real down these days, so they must be polyfill or similar. I have a couple of real down jackets that are several years old, so I am still wearing them occasionally, but no more feathers from now on. The French Connection jacket (below) that I bought last year gets worn almost every day in the winter.

And I LOVE my puffy purse.

Yes, another big fan of puffers, I have five, different lengths and different weights. They are more practical for my style of life than coat. I don't have puffer vest as I need sleeves. I have also two coats, one long and one short. You have great collection of puffers and you wear them in the best way.

I am not sure if this will surprise you, but puffers are the official winter uniform in Israel (along with Blundstones). Lightweight and rain proof is really perfect for most winter weather here. I currently own three, all second hand: thin black with cranberry lining, blue Uniqlo J+original, and thin burgundy Uniqlo.

I'm a fan of puffers, too. Years ago, before I joined YLF, black puffer vests were a thing and I got one. The same year, my daughter gave me the grey one for Christmas. Both were very useful because I was doing a lot of hiking. A couple of years later, I bought the black puffer for a trip to England and Scotland in April. I wore it every day on that trip and it has been w workhorse ever since. YLF has inspired me to add the colored puffers and I added a different color each year for the past three years. I love and wear them all, because I live where it seems to always be puffer weather. My are not the extra warm type, so when it's really cold I wear a fleece jacket underneath

Carla I only have one, and it was bought because of the forum. Specifically because of Rachylou’s “puffy love”! I had never actually owned one before. Back in 1985 my father had something a bit similar which I borrowed for a South Island ( colder part of our country) trip, but that was called a “parka” in those days. Essentially I didn’t think it was cold enough here to need it, but after deciding to give one a go in 2019 I am happy and have worn it 36 times. I love the colour and the reversible nature. It is a little bit big, good for layering.

I don't have a puffer vest - but I do have puffers in a variety of lengths and colours. The long burgundy one has gotten the most wear during what is one of the coldest, snowiest winters ever. We have double our usual amount of snow, and for us, when snow falls, it doesn't melt a week or two later. It stays. And stays. We had been under an extreme cold warning for much of February. It finally lifted today. This morning it is a balmy -13C. Which is far better than -30-something C.

In addition to the finds below, I have a short black packable puffer I have been wearing under the burgundy one. Thanks to Carla for that fabulous tip.

PS Angie, I would happily wear your orange gear coat for more than gear! What a fabulous colour! I came very close to an orange puffer this winter but decided it was just too pricy.

A puffer vest was my answer when I wanted to wear winter clothes while living in Tampa. There were about 2 months every winter when I might be able to wear it to drop my son off at school. In Berlin, it a transitional season piece, though I still haven’t quite worked out when and how to wear it. Angie’s post may help there.

We got here before our stuff, so I bought a red puffy jacket to tide me over. It is now a wardrobe staple, worn many times.

The blue one is an old fave, and quite warm.

I don’t consider myself someone who likes or feels good in a puffer, but I certainly have a lot of them!

My sporty jacket has a hood, which I don’t like. The lightweight vest was great in a more temperate climate, but doesn’t get worn much anymore… The most worn has a diamond quilting (instead of horizontal lines), and I prefer it’s “English country” vibe most.

I love puffers. I don't remember when I started wearing them, but it was long ago. I have a picture of me wearing a short yellow one taken in the mid-80s. I remember wearing a short burgundy one in university in the early 80s.

I love the lightweight comfort of a puffer--great for commuting or walks, although they don't work so great for the rainy days.

My first puffer was a 3/4 ink blue slightly metallic puffer---and the light warmth got me hooked. I have a new black J+Uniglo from this year that has a fun architectural vibe, and a a short leopard (very warm) for active days from Lands end. only wish it had zippered pockets! my one pet peeve....

for Vests: I have a lightweight leopard that is great for under a jacket for extra warmth and a little fun pattern, especially nice with the outdoor breweries and restaurants. I have a solid black eddie bauer, and and old white vest

Would like to add maybe a green or silver vest for spring. And maybe a classic black 3/4 length packable for travel.

Oh yes, love a down puffer. My main winter coat is a black hooded one about knee length, my super warm winter coat is a brown long puffer, I also have a silver vest and a long champagne colored Uniqlo lightweight coat that is good for the shoulder seasons.

Some of mine are old and getting a bit ratty, I have been thinking about replacing them. I am also considering one of the short Uniqlo puffers as a layering piece.

Another big fan of puffers (coats and vests) reporting for duty:-)

And thanks everyone for posting all your fabulous puffers, I love it that there are so many gorgeous options these days, and in lots of beautiful colours too.

Mine are below. I don't have an image for my stunning ink blue Betty Barclay puffer that Angie helped me find in the Netherlands a few years ago. Still love that one so much too, always makes me feel elegant and stylish.

I only have one puffer vest at the moment, the green Uniqlo one below (which is very versatile for me), and I would love to find a more fashion-forward one, especially after today's blog post:-)

So many! The new Lole down parka may or may not replace the navy blue Patagonia parka (the Pata is not quite as warm, doesn't have a waterproof shell, and is a bit snug in the shoulders/sleeves to layer properly on the coldest days, but it's a perfectly serviceable winter coat about 75% of the time).

The chocolate brown REI parka is my go-to for winter hiking, and the Patagonia Nano Air and Nano Air Light jackets are perfect for winter running and warmer days; they are very breathable and layerable. The purple down vest is strictly a gear layer (mostly for warm weather camping and fall hiking), although I used to have the exact same one in black and found I could easily wear it as an everyday piece over sweaters and hoodies. The purple doesn't really work with my current palette, but I was amazed to find an exact dupe for a decade-old piece and couldn't pass it up! The colorblock Uniqlo puffer has been rendered somewhat obsolete by the Pata Nano Air jackets. It's still cute and useful as a back-up, but I may pass it on soon.

I'm keeping an eye out for a new lightweight black puffer vest but it needs to fit just right. Other puffers on my wishlist: a packable ultralight down or Nanopuff in a parka length to layer underneath my longer rain shell; a short boxy super-puffy down jacket in a fun colour, a big puffy down vest with a hood.

As I'm rather self-conscious about my silhouette, I tend to avoid voluminous toppers - including puffers.

I have two puffer vests though, both lightweight and with features that tone down the puffy-effect : stretch side panels on the light grey one, and a very large ribbed waistband on the olive one.

My only full-blown puffer (if you pardon the pun) is a technical horseriding parka I wear for winter trail rides. I definitely look like the Michelin man when I wear it, but I do stay warm whatever the weather!

I only have one puffer atm from LL Bean (nautical navy). I think a puffer vest would be a very cool addition to your wardrobe :)

I love puffy jackets, too. I haven’t worn them under a wool coat yet. I have worn puffy vests under a wool coat.

I’m not sure how many puffy jackets I have. With our birding, I have all levels of warmth, from lightweight Nanopuffs to ultra warm arctic coats. Mine are grey, navy, blue, olive, pale pink and red. The pink and red ones are from Lands End. Those two are annoying because they don’t have zippers on the pockets, so nothing is really secure in them. I like Patagonia, especially their Nanopuffs. Their designs are very thoughtful. I have a very warm Marmot jacket whose pockets close with magnets, which is weird. I also have a black down jacket that was our son’s in junior high. I took it to Barrow, Alaska and wasn’t cold.
