Thanks for coming back for your detailed inputs, Aliona. I agree with all of them..definitely want to wear these dresses with more minimalistic accessories.

It's amazing how you all can easily see 'issues' with outfit styling when I fail to see them. I guess it's also because I see these clothes hanging in my closet all the time .... So you can give me a fresh perspective. This is why I LOVE WIWs!

Back again, Maneera. All of these dresses are gorgeous on you and fit and flatter like a dream. I think the cobalt and black sheath in 8-10 are perfect as they are. For the first sheath, I like it styled in 1-2 the best, without the belt. I love how the necklace echoes your tattoo.

I absolutely adore you in the fit and flare, this style loves you, and what a lovely dress it is! I think it's perfect with the white shoes but agree there's a lot going on with belt and jewellery. I'd love to see it styled simply, without a necklace and belt, since the white piping and lace sleeves stand on their own to my eye. I love that you have this dress in your wardrobe for a softer dressy look.

You look just beautiful.

Wow! You dress up beautifully!
I actually love the belt with number 1. It has an unexpected look that I enjoy.
The cobalt is just beautiful on you.
With the fit and flare I feel like there is too much going on with the trim and the necklace and the belt and the shoes. Maybe necklace or belt? Or shorter necklace?

Good to know all of you agree with Isabelle's assessment of how to change up the look with going MINIMALISTIC with accessories. Actually - I think I like this idea ALOT. It echoes Coco Chanel's wise words - "Before you leave the house, look in the mirror & remove one accessory". I think that certainly applies to me when I do "Dressy"!!!

Infact I'm thinking that if I let the dress do *all the talking* and simply wear a pair of some sort of heels, I could get more wear from these dresses. Why accessorize at all?! For example: the dress in Outfit#4 without any accessories - just a white bag, shoes & pearl earrings can actually easily be worn out for dinner....doesn't have to be a party at all! The dress in Outfit #3 with a long pendant necklace/gauzy scarf and a nice tote is also something I can wear just for dinner. Maybe just a bracelet.

You look gorgeous, you really do, the combination of your lovely figure and slightly disheveled hairstyle is incredibly appealing.

Know that I am not much of a book-ender myself and with that in mind, I might not wear a necklace and shoes of the same color, especially for photos. I think the repetition constricts the view and distracts from a full vision of your face and everything not contained within the bookending?

OK, I'm not even reading the other replies yet. I adore the first three outfits! The fit and flare is my least favorite. Maybe it's because my taste has veered away from f&f styles in the last few years, but to my eye, the others are more sophisticated and more flattering.

Please Note: This has been a personal record. I've put together 4 dressy outfits and not one of them included black shoes!!!! In the past, I would wear black shoes with EVERYTHING. I've worn all these 4 dresses with black footwear in the past too!!! (Adding whatever photos I can find on my phone) But it seems like I've learned a lot in the past year!! Yay for that!

Hahaha Donna! I can soooo count on you for cheering me on, regardless of what I wear. You're a gem!!!! I think I could wear my sleeping shorts and you'd still think of something awesome to say to me! I soooo love you for that! That pic is adorable!

Well, now everyone knows WHY I own so many dressy dresses.....I look good in them! Sadly, I can't wear them everyday (though believe me, I've tried!) Now if only I was a jet-setting businesswoman who needed a new, powerful sheath dress everyday!!!!

Helena - can always count on you too for cheering me on! Thank you!

Thanks Aliona. It was nice to do this exercise too. Kind of to remind myself that I DO look good in dresses and shouldn't pass up on opportunities to wear a dressy outfit. Sure, I know how to do casuals now, but I shouldn't lose my 'dressy' streak and default to casuals all the time.

Thanks Aquamarine. I actually have a few more dressy dresses. They're all from a few years back when I used to shop for an imaginary lifestyle, but they're all classic, so they're investments. These are just 4 I wanted to style for this summer because I hate to think last-minute about what to wear for a formal/dressy occasion. Plus I had to check the fit is still ok!

Isabella- thank you very much for the detailed inputs. I'm leaning towards a more 'minimalistic' streak too, so your insights are most helpful. This is how I've worn these dresses in the past, and I WOULD like to change that.

Outfit #1: I'm more keen on the belt than the necklace. I think I could add long earrings instead of the necklace. I'm beginning to rely too heavily on necklaces when I actually have a rather large collection of earrings, bracelets and cocktail rings too.

#2: I'm going to try brighter shoes or the gold sandals here. I agree the necklace is good with this neckline.

#3: I was sceptical about the necklace here as well. I think it's fighting with the neckline of the dress. Perhaos a long chain & pendant would be better here. Or I could just go with a cuff & earrings again.

#4: Now that you've pointed it out, I can see exactly what you mean for this one. Too much going on here...the dress is pretty enough as is. My accessories are taking away from the details of the dress. I think I'll just add dangly pearl earrings instead.

Thanks a lot for this! Your input is exactly what I needed!

Great dressy capsule, you're set for parties.
And you have variety : #1 looks more evening formal, #2 day / professional formal and #3, 4 garden party / wedding formal, in my eyes.

Now, to accessories. Keep in mind (but I think it will be obvious) that I have a strong minimalist streak :
#1 : love the shoes. I'd choose belt (if it stays put and it's not fussy) or necklace - and I'd like to see a shorter necklace, more like a choker, with this neckline.
#2 : love the necklace, nude pumps work, if you have some bright coloured pumps / clutch that would look great too.
#3 : love the shoes, don't feel the necklace with the neckline. A cuff, or bangles, maybe ?
#4 : love the shoes, I'd loose the belt and the necklace, lace and white trim are enough.
#5 : love the dog, and the prints.

Wow Maneera, you look fantastic in all the dresses! #7 is killer! Love the color on you and the spiky necklace. How would it look with the gold sandals instead of the nude pumps? (I love matchy matchy). I don't think you need the belt for the first dress, it looks great in #2 without it. Great fit on the black sheath dress and the necklace is great too. The fit and flare is very nice too but I have to say you look stunning in sheaths!

Lately, you've all seen my basics, my everyday wear and my dressy casual looks. Those are outfits I wear MOST for my lifestyle.

Yet, a few times a year, I have the need to be more dressed up. These are often formal parties hosted by my husband's office, or special bdays & anniversaries of friends where we have to go to fancy 5 stars hotels ...and festival related parties. Not too many...a few a year.

I have time to kill today so I'm trying out 4 dressy outfits. All these dresses are old (from my "buying for a fantasy lifestyle" days) but they are all classics. I'm trying to figure out how to style them now....since my style has evolved over the past year.

Outfit #1: Black Ruched Dress (#1-4)

One of my most worn dresses out of the dressy collection. In the past, I've worn it with either black pumps or peep toe shoes, but I think I prefer these gold block heel sandals now. What do you think? #1&2 show the dress with muted gold shoes & chain link necklace. I've further added this metal belt I got specifically for this dress (bought them both for my bday in 2013). There's a close up too so you can see the Ruched detail & belt, because black never photographs well. Thoughts?

Outfit #2: Cobalt Ruched Dress (#5-7)

This one is very similar to the above dress in weight & fabrication but has sleeves and a flattering V neckline. (Both dresses are from Mango). I like this gold necklace that fills in the neckline. I prefer a clean look with this dress, hence the nude-for-me pumps. But I could easily sWitch them for block heel sandals too. Thoughts on this?

Outfit #3: Black Sheath Dress (#8-10)

Another sleeveless black dress, but this one is woven and has its own fabric belt. I wanted to pair this one with grey snake-print sandals and a dainty necklace. I can just as easily wear with with all black accessories, but i like the effect with grey. Does it look good? Adding a close-up of the necklace.

Outfit #4: B&W Fit & Flare Dress (#11-13)

This dress is the only exception here because it's a Fit&Flare style. I want to wear it wth my new white block heel sandals....but to be honest, I'm not 100% sure of this outfit. Do I look like I'm trying too hard? Especially because I have added the skinny black belt to my waist? Also added is a doubled up long pearl & silver string around my neck. I have a bag to match these shoes. Would love 100% honest opinions on this one.

#14 - The shoes.

#15: Bonus Pic: If any of you are wondering why you see a part of Emma's face in all photos, the pup has borrowed into pillows and is sleeping peacefully. And that's why I have the free time to click photos and the luxury of littering clothes/belts/necklaces all over the bed!

Thanks for your honest inputs. I do have several other dresses/shoes/necklaces, so please give me your honest feedback. Nothing would offend me
