If you ever tire of that anorak, I'll gladly take it, Synne. That muted summer palette looks so wonderful on you and ghastly is the perfect word describing how those colors would look on Autumn me.

Love this outfit - a great athleisure type look with just enough structure to keep it polished. This soft palette is lovely on you!

I change my mind about my season on an approximately monthly basis I am definitely cool, but annoyingly balanced on the depth and brightness scales, so I can tip one way or the other, I think. For practical purposes, I just work with a cool palette, but with vary the depth/lightness and brightness/softness based on my mood and colour-season-choice-of-the-month

Is that mulberry I see? Not a color I’m accustomed to seeing you in. It looks great! I like your smirk in 3 too.

I’m a summer, but don’t think I’m the soft kind. I recently realized that the palette I envision for the coming summer is straight Hanna Barbera. Seriously.

ETA digging around for an H-B pic, I geeked out about the collars. Did not know this before. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XWo5aUzJ4_c

Zaeobi, thanks for the link. Yes I can definitely still wear a winter palette, just a bit different. The soft summer palette is working better than it did before. So I probably can cross between the two. It will be easier to tell once my natural hair is fully grown in.

Quite like your outfit, Synne. Yes, colour/palette is important to me, but I have no clue what season I might be. As a redhead I always got lumped into autumn shades, but emotionally didn’t feel them. With my red and white mix pseudo blonde hair I’m even more confused - so I just go with what appeals on an emotional level.

Colours in photo below are my palette for 2021. I’m still digging lilac.

I think your outfit is a perfect example of the benefits of knowing your colors - what sounds basic on paper looks fantastic on you. (As for what people give to thrift stores, don't get me started .)
I have always assumed I am a winter, my original hair color was nearly black and my skin I believe is a cool olive. I do think different colors work now that my hair and skin are paler, and you certainly illustrate why I should try to pin this down.

Light spring dramatic here. My mum and son are both soft summers, it’s a beautiful palette, very “grown up”. I struggle with my colours, because they are typically used in romantic, preppy or sporty gear, not dramatic styles!

Soft Autumn reporting in. With my new silvery hair, I dropped brown out of my palette; the rest of the colors I have been buying still work. I use the palette not rigidly, but to help me pass on color trends that just don’t suit me.

Thanks Synne my natural hair was actually brown but with red tonings/highlights. And the only times I dyed it ( aged 23 and 28) I dyed it red which seemed to suit my colouring.
Re going grey: my newer Colour Me Beautiful book from 2010 ( I had not bought the 1980 one just borrowed it from the library) does actually say that your colouring can change from warm to cool, to Star’s point. I feel for me it hasn’t totally changed but broadened, so now I can also suit grey and silver clothing and jewellery as well as gold. I am all for more choices!

I am pretty sure I am a winter, but I cannot figure out which sub-season of winter. I wear black and I also look quite well in black alone. Sometimes, I think I am a dark winter, sometimes a bright winter. I don´t think I am a true winter, because I look generally better in yellow gold jewelry than in white gold or silver. I love a large variety of colors and I will wear also colors from other seasons, mixed up with cool winter colors. I like mixing colors depending on my mood.

I can see these colors suit you. This is an interesting topic for me currently. I have always been a Winter; dark hair, light skin, light blue/gray eyes. Contrast and saturated or jewel colors looked good on me as does silver jewellery. Now I am letting my dyed hair grow out and my natural hair is silver. Suddenly less contrast is suiting me better, I think I may be a Soft Summer now too. Suddenly pastels, icy colors and light grays are looking good. I will know better when it is fully out. I have read experts say your palette does not change when you go gray but this does not seem to be so in my case.

You wear the palettes you’ve chosen so well! Absolutely milk them in all wardrobe items. Why not :)

Cute anorak. A great utility piece.

I’m a Warm Spring, and it’s an absolutely perfect palette for my mind, body and spirit. Have liked the same colours all my life. Our home is in the same palette too.

YES, I give it a lot of thought. My wardrobe is colourful but disciplined. Colours have to match, be tonal, and work with each other. I’m very fussy about items being exactly the right colour so that they are versatile and make me happy.

Thanks Smittie! Back hem dips (?) are important:-D I have some red naturally in my hair, but maybe mostly grey now. Will be interesting to see when it grows out! I feel I can coordinate my garments pretty well if they are all muted with some gray. Like this outfit, randomly thrown together. I do love spring colours (Angie's palette) and autumn colors, but they are seldom any good on me!

Synne, you look so cute! I love it when coats have a back hem that dips like that. The sneakers are great too. I like how they’re one solid colour.
Interested to see what you look like when the henna grows out. I always thought you were a natural red head.

I am cool summer, but I don’t like a lot of the colours in this palette and I also find they are hard to coordinate (which is a problem if you want a minimal wardrobe). Do they look good on me? Yes, I think so, but I still prefer classic colours, AND they’re easier to find and coordinate.

It is worth doing the experiment of wearing colours that you like but maybe are not best suited to you to see how you feel.

I'm not "officially" diagnosed, but think I must be a Dark Autumn too. I'm dark enough that black works, but am much better in warm colors than blue. Pastels, white, or anything too greyed are the worst.

Haha @Synne in that case you would love it here - the local women's fashion brands are usually either all pastels & muted tones OR edgy black streetwear. The only 'in between' I see tends to be camel & burgundy in the autumn, hence why I usually shop online

I didn't actually get an *official* Kibbe Type diagnosis, since my stylist dealt more with 'general' guidelines. We didn't go with 'princess' in the end (which I assume would be similar to Romantic in Kibbe talk) but rather more classic leaning (I'd have to dig out the booklet again to remember exactly). So my Romantic/ Soft Classic assertion is really just a self-diagnosis based on trial & error (again, lol) - e.g. I know I have softer features but I tend to look very matronly in ornate prints & stereotypically 'Romantic' styles (like the current milkmaid trend). However, I also look odd in a (classic) trench coat. So who knows, just DYOT

Synne - this is such an elegant outfit because of those beautiful tonal colours that suit you perfectly. I have been told I am a 'summer' and to wear light, clear and bright colours. This was from a friend many years ago, so I may well have my season wrong but it would be either Summer or Spring. I have never had a formal assessment and tend to rely upon my instincts in terms of what colours I want to wear and what colours I combine into outfits.

I often wear black, because I enjoy the streamlined elegance and drama of a black outfit and it reminds me of when I was young and wore black all of the time. However, for me to really shine, wearing the colours that are common to the Summer and Spring palettes work best for me and I gravitate to those most of the time.

Jenni, spring sounds right! You have gorgeous sterling silver locks now, but you had red hair in younger years, right? I would guess you can change seasons (within a season?) when your hair changes. I could get away with the more muted colors of the "autumn" category when my hair was dyed red.

Zaebi, polar opposites, how fun! That means we can learn a lot from each other, but do things inverted It is funny, certain colours are often talked about as colours to avoid because they are "dead, dull, lacking of energy and boring", and I am like.. those are my colours! Those colours makes me shine, makes my skin glow and helps me come to life visually!
I am still exploring the Kibbe universe. Romantic for you sounds very plausible. Was that your official style type? You are right about the trial and error. And having fun along the way!

YLF in those colours - I would look dead in all of them I'm your polar opposite - had myself officially diagnosed as a Deep Autumn in 2019 (had both a colour & body analysis done in tandem).

The depth would explain why I can borrow certain colours from the Winter palette (I can just about get away with all-black workout gear, lol) but I'm not fully sold on the warmth aspect (it's ok in clothing but warm-toned foundation, for example, tends to look yellow on me). I suspect I may actually be neutral to warm toned olive instead, but am not sure how to check (other than through expensive trial & error of makeup products in home lighting, lol). Just realised this is probably a big reason why I don't really wear makeup - I'll dab some concealer & colour corrector here & there for special occasions, but can't remember the last time (after my wedding) that I even used liquid foundation

All in all, I took the 'diagnosis' onboard but don't treat it as life-threatening I'll wear deep colours but don't really identify with the stereotypically autumnal earth tones (like mustard, olive, tan, rust). It's also overwhelming when you start trying to intersect the seasons with other style 'diagnoses' - for example, I suspect I'm either a Romantic or Soft Classic Kibbe Type, but they're 'supposed' to wear pastels & ethereal floral prints. Total antithesis to my colouring - sounds more like yours!

PS - I recently thrifted a similarly hooded lightweight coat in 'my' season (dark green) but with the tags still attached! I guess it's true what they say about 'one man's treasure'...

I definitely give mine thought! I self-diagnosed as a Spring in the original Carole Jackson Colour Me Beautiful book of 1980, which I read in 1984. The idea has served me well my whole life since. I did buy an updated book a few years ago which widened the criteria and I now think in that system I am a “Clear and Warm”. I did mean to check the book now I have bought my new soft cream warm sweater, as I feel it suits me better than bright white.
These colours are lovely on you.

What I wore today for some quick errands. Nothing fancy here (I mean really), but with a little tweak I am most pleased with:

Yeah, this is sweatpants and sneakers and an anorak, but wait for it: in MY colours! This could look way worse! Haha. Right??
I am a self-diagnosed "Soft Summer", which means I best suit cool, muted, washed-out, grey-toned colours. Colours that probably would look ghastly on someone else, is just perfect for me. (I am growing out old henna, and am ready to embrace my mousy gray mane).

Also, my most recent thrifted coat, and new non-white-soled sneakers. The coat is hardly worn and probably only a couple of seasons old. To think what people pass on!! (Jokes on me, because I have done the same thing....)

Thanks for looking! What is your colour season? And do you give it any thought?
