Hi Kathy!

I started to work on things about a year ago.

I can tell you the things that I've found most useful for starting off:

- getting a good bra fitting and paying for a good bra (didn't do this until recently but wish I'd done it earlier!)
- getting a well fitting pair of jeans in a dark wash (as they can be dressed up)
- moving over from Tees to knitted tops (I'm fidgeted by this now as they're pilling more, a year on)
- then worked on getting dresses and skirts the right length

I worked out what I had in my wardrobe that would fit with the MOTG formulas (= pretty well nothing at all!) so I had to do it bit by bit. I read and read and read the blog entries on the website about my shape (pear) and about perfect pants length (skimming the ground - all mine were too short) and best skirt length (about knee length - all mine were too long) and altered the clothes I could. I only wore Tees for casual so I invested in some cheap longer length fitted tees in this season's colours, and also bought a few strands of cheap beads as well in colours suggested on various of Angie's blog posts. I bought most things in the sale - while I don't trust my judgement entirely I'd prefer to buy things that are cheaper and run the risk of them being wrong than do that with more expensive things. I also bought lots of things and then returned them once I'd tried them on at home (and sometimes posted them here under a 'keep or return'.

Gradually I have started to find my style!

Does any of that help? Good luck!

Hi Kathy --

From the T and jeans photo your shoulders and hips look almost equal to your waist (which is small but not particularly defined/indented).

When you are looking at Angie's body shape guidelines, I think you might try out some of the suggestions for Rectangles and see how you feel. I promise I'm not just trying to recruit you to "my" side. ;0

Bra fittings are never a bad idea.

Bra-wise, I'd say you look pretty good in that T, but maybe the cups are a little stretched? When I lose that "front and center" look I know it's time for a new bra (usually the same size, but sometimes I'm surprised...which is why I only buy 3 everyday bras at a time, wear 'em out, and replace every 6-8 months).

Colorwise I think you could play around with the Summer and Spring shades and see what makes you glow. In many color systems, there are some overlapping shades in those 2 "zones" -- esp in the blues/purples.

Obviously monitors differ, but just so you have a rough frame of reference here's a starting point:

http://www.members.tripod.com/.....lettes.htm

Hmm--- maybe I was wrong about the cool complected thing. The pics are very hard to tell. I agree that you aren't an autumn though. I don't think you would look good in the autumn shades, which generally have a muted tinge because they have more gray/brown in their base. I am certainly not an expert though-- I always have a hard time determining my own coloring because I don't fit in the traditional categories. I have very light olive skin (don't do well with golden makeups, or neutral ones and def. not pinks, I am literally light green that tans brown). I have dark hair with lots of red (mom has darker hair than me, dad is blonde/strawberry blonde) and my eyes are three different colors (I have what looks like a steel grey ring around the outside, have a warm medium brown, and then a grey ring inside) all three being very prominent. I think you may be one of the redheads that is actually something else. My personal advice is just to wear what looks good on ya!

Hi Kathy, welcome to the forum.I am a breastfeeding mom to a five month old and I would totally recommend going for a bra fitting. It feels so good to wear a fitted bra.It would be a good idea to get another photo a Chewy suggested.Once you know your body type, you can read up on Angie' blog about your body type for basic guidelines regarding what to look for in clothes. The next step would be to hit the mall and try clothes, even those that are out of your comfort zone. The idea is to just have fun.

That first blue seems a little dark for you but the other one is great. I think maybe not "brights" but possibly try on some jewel tones. I agree with Chewy that you look Autumn-ish.

From the first pic I would agree that you are an inverted triangle, with secondary hourglass tendencies because you do have a small waist.

I like the pants from the first pic, but I don't think that the layered t-shirts are very flattering. You have a slim middle, but they cling and bunch there.

The long necklace is a good look and helps create a vertical line, just as long as it doesn't get wrapped around or lay funny because of the girls.

I think you would look really great in more woven type tops and leave the t's for underl layers if you can fit woven tops with your larger chest. Vests and washable cotton jackets are good toppers as well.

Although it is hard to tell, I think you have blue undertones. That would make you cool complected. If you like yourself better in bluish shades this is probably true (bluish purple, true blues, pastels).

I think your glasses are a very nice shape for your face. They are very plain and not very "current" but the shape isn't dated either. I can understand you going for them if you are hoping to make them last as long as the last pair.

You are a great candidate for the more full sixties shape skirts that should be more in fashion this year. That would be cool for your summer and balance your shape. They would look great with a camp shirt type blouse-- maybe with a wide stretchy belt over it to show off your waist. Or with a tee and a fun denim vest.

I also think you would look great in the tunic top with skinny jeans look-- your slim bottom half plays to that advantage. This can be belted or you can surrender your waist.

I would like to see you in a wine type red-- even with your red hair I think it would look gorgeous on you, because it is similar to your lip shade, just deeper. Blues similar to your eyes will also look great, and of course, redheads look great in green-- and it is back in.

Will try the photo again..hubby sick at the moment.

I am not an autumn that I know for sure as I look horrible in those colours. They seem to bring out all the wrong tones in my skin and I end up looking very tired and my skin red. One thing I have found in my research is that there are many different kinds of redhead and we are not all autumns. There are different shades of red (from carroty to auburn) and skin (from heavily freckled to pink to my own light non-pink and un-freckled shade) I believe that I look better in winter colours. The blue of the swimsuit photo is not an autumn colour and that looks good on me.

As for my eyes, I am short sighted and do have an annual eye check. With my current frames I didn't need any update in my prescription from the previous lenses it was the new glasses frame's needing custom fitted lenses. The comment on glasses was in relation to changing frames and the expense of having a whole new set of lenses made to fit those new frames.

You've got great legs...and a slightly defined waist. I'd say you were between a rectangle and an hourglass. But don't get too hung up on body shape. Just figure out the clothing silhouettes that work. Which means trying on a bunch of stuff! (FUN!)

Welcome to the board, Kathy!

For body shape determination, we need a straight on shot with most of your body in tight fitting clothes and hands down at your sides. That first pic didn't work for me, but in the second one you are at an angle.
You look like you have autumnish coloring- do earth tones look good on you?
I would absolutely got for a bra fitting first thing- you won't regret it. Take into consideration that you should have your eyes check annually for health reasons. I know how expensive glasses are, but it's one of those things that we just have to do.

Here is a front shot photo: It didn't turn out very well. I think it was the lighting being a bit dull (very wet and overcast today) but I think that the colour I'm wearing really looks blah on me. What colours do you think would suit me? Seems like bright looks better.

http://i833.photobucket.com/al.....c11641.jpg

I looked a lot better in the previous photos in which I wore a bright blue bathers. Strangely enough this photo was taken inside at night.

http://s833.photobucket.com/al.....c11545.jpg

Anyway...Which body type am I? I said that I was an inverted triangle in my last post as I was told this during a consultation with a stylist/image consultant. She used a tape measure and from those measurements she said I was inverted. It was a surprise to me as I never thought that of myself and even after she said it I still thought that my lower half wasn't typical inverted if that was what I was as I am definitely not narrow at the bottom even though I have broad-ish shoulders.

Bra size, I am breastfeeding and so wear maternity bra's. It has been almost a year since I was last fitted (my son was around 6 months at the time) and that person didn't measure me. I tried on the size I thought I was and she had a look at how it fitted. Is that ok? I don't feel like my bra is too tight or loose in the cups though I have tightened the shoulder straps a lot over time as they have stretched. My cup size has gone up 3 sizes since before my first pregnancy (I used to be an A) and my current bra size is a D. I have been breastfeeding almost non-stop for 4.5 years (my daughter weaned herself about 6 weeks before my son was born) but I have felt that my size has stabilised at a D. Should I be looking for someone to measure me for a correct fitting?

I also wanted to ask again whether anybody, using the Mom on Go formulas, has worked out a shopping list for the individual items needed to make up these formulas. I would like to be able to create the looks (we are just into Spring in Australia) but get the most use out of each separate piece I buy. I have not had much success with my wardrobe choices in the past. The clothes I am wearing in the above photo is the ONLY look I have. Layering a white top under a coloured one was pretty much the only thing I learnt from my consultation with the stylist and it is now the ONLY look I am happy with. The long necklace is part of that also. I would like to have more than one kind of look and to be able to know I look good in several different ways, not just one. I repeat the above look with different coloured tops over the white, some with short or ¾ sleeves and change the pants (I have either the jeans in the photo or black cords), I often wear a jacket over the top and that is it!

After the bra fitting what would be my next step? I only just got new glasses about 8 months ago and apart from tightening up they are pretty good. It cost $200 per lens for my glasses so even though I got the frame for $50 with a special they had, it cost almost $500 to get new glasses. I won't be repeating that for a while. The pair before these lasted for 7 years as it took me a long time to choose a new frame. I was so nervous about choosing a pair that looked really wrong for me like my last that were too round and I'm pretty sure these ones are ok for my face. I had several friends help me choose them. I prefer contacts for appearance but don't like the bother of putting them in and the cost of continuing to buy replacements. I have dry eyes and the best for that are monthlies.
