I returned the damaged top today, and after much consideration, I also returned the new/replacement one they sent me. I had hand washed the damaged one in an unsuccessful attempt to get rid of the color loss due to Shout, and laid it out to dry, finding that it needed blocking like a fragile sweater. Even after I did that it still didn't come out the right shape. This is too much fussing for what I expected to be a casual and easy care item. I would be ok with an exotic or unusual item needing special care, but not this top. Nordstrom's customer support is still fab, but this particular sweatshirt is not IMHO. NEXT.

Thanks Angie! Yeah it does look like a bleach mark...and that's just from using Shout stain remover, which contains no bleach :-)

Looks like a nasty bleach mark. Glad Nordies is replacing the fun top.

Thanks Shevia!

DJP...hmm i guess I didn't see the tag that said it would fade over time, thanks for noting it. Yeah I wish I had Angie's superpower too, but I definitely do NOT.

Jessikams what a bummer about your scarf! I once hand washed a grey cashmere scarf (a winter muffler style) that had a lovely texture with a sort of crease pattern. Hand washing it flattened out those seams quite a bit. It's never been quite so nice since although it's still good. I guess clothing care is always a little bit of a crap shoot.

Thanks suntiger! Yes this is one of the colors I'm looking for this spring and summer. I love it, it looks good on me, and it's available, but finding the right pieces of course is a different story.

Thanks Aquamarine. I have had this happen to any clothing for a LONG time. I thought color bleed was a thing of the past due to modern dying techniques. Guess not always. .

I hate when this happens. In my experience, it’s red or blue items usually, but then again I can’t remember ever buying a yellow top (not my color).

I have this sweatshirt in the red colour and the tag did warn that the dyes were not strictly colourfast and were supposed to fade over time to create a "vintage" look. Having said that, I did wash it in the washer (very carefully with other similar colours) and noticed no dye transfer and no noticeable fading. Thank you for the heads up on the spot removal process, I guess I will have to remain vigilant. Too bad we don't all have Angie's super power!

Glad the top is being replaced but concerned what will happen to the new one. Outfit looks good - the shoes are tonal with your legs so the high vamp does not cut them off dramatically like a dark shoe would.

missvee, you are right that I wouldn't send this to the cleaners, although there is nothing to prevent me from doing so. I just need to be more careful when wearing it. I did consider just returning it....

Marilyn it was definitely the Shout that "bleached" it. But shout has been around for years and I would expect a garment sold by Nordstrom to be colorfast unless it specifically said it was not. I did think about just returning it but I like it enough to be more careful with the replacement one.

..but you are both making a good point....maybe once I receive the new one I'll decide to return it before I spill something on it....

If it's not colourfast I'd be asking for a return. A replacement will just do the same thing.....unless it was the Shout stick that bleached it.

Wow, what terrible quality. Maybe you should just return the sweatshirt and look for something else altogether. If they aren’t colourfast how are you supposed to treat stains? It’s not as if this is something you’d send to the dry cleaners.

Thanks Lisa p. Your recent posting with the white shooties gives me some more good ideas for wearing light colored shoes. Yeah that bleaching is what I would have expected if I spilled actual bleach on it, but not from using Shout.

I wore this sweatshirt for the first time on Easter (two days ago). I’m not sure I like the skirt with these shoes. With that much leg showing the shoes look odd to me because the vamp comes all the way up to my ankle. I wear skirts and dresses so rarely that maybe I'm just not used to how they look. What do you think?

Back to the main topic of this posting. On the evening of Easter Sunday I noticed a small stain just above the pocket. It was probably food related since I was cooking etc, and that area was not covered by my apron, but I don't know what it was.

The next morning (yesterday), I put some Shout stain remover on the
stain and waited about an hour. The stain was gone, but so was the dye in that area; there was an almost white spot a few inches in diameter. I washed it by hand in cold water and a tiny bit of laundry detergent to see if that would sort it out, but after it dried the almost white spot was still there. (The washing water looked a little yellow too) The garment is apparently not color fast! I didn't think a $78 sweatshirt should behave this way, and just got off a chat session with Nordstrom and they said they’d replace it but I do need to return the damaged one. I’ll update this later on after I return the old one and get the new one…but in the meantime if you buy this sweatshirt in any of the colors, note that it might not be colorfast.

And kudos to Nordstrom’s customer service. I know once in a while they fail but most of the time they set the gold standard, at least that’s been my experience.

#1 - me wearing the sweatshirt pre-stain

#2 closeup of the white area
