You can see the Makali piece in my "twee" thread. I think the consensus is that it's too staid.

I had a piece that I got rid of only because it was so remarkable that I didn't want that much attention. It wasn't loud at all. It was a beautifully made longer length jacket in an embossed cotton that was very much like an Escher painting in shades of grey and white. An amazing small geometric piece. I was impressed.

I've seen his label around but haven't really looked into his clothing. I don't think you should based quality on the label content/construction only. Best way to judge if an item is high quality and is worth the high price is to look at the seams, the buttons/zippers/ closure, the fabric content, orientation of the fabric grain on the garment, etc.

His stuff is really expensive - some a bit OTT and spangly for my taste, some very Custo Barcelona like coolness.

I think Makali tops are high quality. I don't own any of this brand, but I've seen them for sale at better stores like Nordstrom and Saks.

Snagged a top by Makali at the Rack, and am wondering on the general quality opinion of the designer. It has a rubber/plastic size label, which is usually a sign to me that it's not a great piece. But I could be wrong?
