Love your jeans Dee!

I have been thinking and don't know the answer here - I have changed my perspective on trends. I am still influenced by them and will sometimes choose being "trendy" over a conventionally flattering shape. I like the ebb and flow of trends.

But I am a bit more contrary about some trends too and avoid them.

I don't think I will wear mini skirts this time around, nor crop tops but I have enjoyed puffed sleeves and wide leg pants and am currently wearing an oversized bomber jacket....And I would wear body con again in the right piece.

Angie maybe this US link might work

https://shop.mango.com/us/wome......html?c=TO

This link calls these jeans high-waisted slouchy mom jeans with the number I entered from the price tag on my jeans.
However there was another label attached to the jeans as well, calling them cropped balloon jeans. Go figure.

Wear what you like, like what you wear. There’s nothing wrong with an “old person” going with current fashion trends. Life is too short to deal with nitpicking criticism.

Angie its pretty confusing but I went with the jeans number on the price tag 328AGATA which lead me to this link

https://shop.mango.com/ca/wome......html?c=TO

Seems just like Everlane they have different names, because the other attached tag on my jeans calls them cropped balloon jeans

Here is the link for the regular length balloon jeans :

https://shop.mango.com/ca/wome......html?c=TO

Hopefully you can find the proper US link.

Love these jeans on you! I bet you will get lots of use from them.

I would echo a lot that has been said already. I am 62 and worry about looking current without trying too hard and looking ridiculous. Where I used to know instinctively what I would like, now I doubt myself way too often. It is definitely age related for me. I feel like I need to be extra careful about looking dated, but often don't know what that even means. It's a struggle for sure.

Anyway, the jeans are fabulous on you!

Lyn67 - I happened upon these Mango jeans while shopping in person at a local department store. I’m not sure what season they’re from, I made a custom find below, but they appear to be out of stock online.

Helena - Yes its tricky keeping up with trends, just when I think I’ve got it sorted they’re already moving onto to the next trend.

Dee these look fantastic!!! I'm so glad you tried them. So good.

As to trends ... No answers but I am grappling with this. I did some shopping last week in Florida (taking advantage of US shops, although I didn't get much!) and lamented that while I used to 'jist know' what was on trend, no I really have to work at it and am less sure of myself. Haven't solved it for myself yet!

Also agree with Brooklyn ... Practicality, etc. are far bigger considerations, and I don't want to waste resources on clothing that doesn't go the distance.

Style Fan- Yep, definitely no more crop tops for me either,
Jamie- I too am more aware of how certain body parts have changed as I’ve aged.

Cjh - Fab that getting older has provided you with some extra income to treat yourself now.

Carol - I agree that certain trends may have a more youthful appeal, so I tread carefully with some of these ones.

Kkards - I feel too that getting older has given me the wisdom now to not go “whole hog” with these trends. They have to be adaptable to me and not the other way round.

Love. Love love the jeans!

Re the trends…I do think a lot more about the trends today vis via which ones I think are appropriate for me….not age appropriate….because I don’t see most fashion that way, but appropriate because as I’ve gotten older I’ve become better at buying for my current lifestyle and my closet. In my youth to try a trend I’d often buy a whole outfit-ie foe these barrel legs jeans I need a shorter top and different shoe, you get the picture. But today I’m more about does it fit with what I already have, will it work in the places I go and the things I do. I’ve also gotten better and knowing which trends I like on other people vs which trends I ;Ike for me. (Not 100% there, but I’ve gotten better)

Dee...those jeans look GREAT on you, especially with the sneakers you chose. They look easy.

As I age, I find I have to be careful about what youthful looks I choose. I do live in a town that is rather allowing of older men and women to dress young. And I say young, because not all trends are young, but it's the young ones you have to be careful with.

I bought some orange Nike sneakers, and everyone loved them. I got a black mini-dress from Forever 21, thrifted, and my (ex) boyfriend thought I looked great.

Trends like square toed pumps are probably easier for all ages, but for anything more youthful, you have to decide if it matches your personality.

Maybe the most influence is that I’m fortunate to now have a little money for splurging, which wasn’t so much the case when I had kids at home or otherwise lived on a tight budget.

The jeans are a homerun! I am not sure how I feel about the new trends issue. On the one hand, I am all in on trying new things when I have the chance, and certainly wear things that lead people in thrift shops to hand me some pretty loud and out there pieces to try . On the other hand, I am self conscious about certain body parts that weren't really an issue when I was younger which does affect what I will wear. I am trying to get over it though.

April - Haha, welcome soon to the 60+ club, I agree that along with practicality and comfort, I want to be more sustainable and so any purchase I make should be something that will work for me for a long time. Hope you enjoy your new barrel jeans.

Eliza - I agree that feeling like myself in a new trend is really key in deciding whether to adopt it or not and they’ve got to work with most of my comfy footwear now or its a no-go for me.

BrieN - Thanks so much, I think my hesitation with this style was because when I explored some other trendy pants before like the cargos, they actually looked and fitted okay but I felt like an imposter wearing them and I feared the same for this style.

Those jeans looks great on you! My gosh. It’s funny to think you might have hesitated on the style when they look that good. And I like the whole outfit too

Dee- those are a great look and I find a denim update both fun and impactful in my usually casual, driven by comfortable shoe needs (high five) wardrobe. I am likely older than you and when I think about it, it’s feeling like myself in outfits that drives my choices. And seen through that lens, it’s no different than it ever was. There are always trends ignored and some to try. Enjoy the jeans. New silhouettes can propel us to try different pieces that work well them and a side benefit is feeling more current.

Dee, in under 3 weeks, I will join you in the 60-and-up category. As many others have said, I now focus much more on practicality and comfort (also quality and sustainability) but almost never think about my age when considering trends.

Will let you know when my own Everlane barrel legs show up. And as I assemble the pieces, will model my wedding-in-May outfit.

Suz - i think you’re so right, its trying to get the right combination of classic and trendy that helps me feel more comfortable with a new trend. Otherwise it doesn’t feel authentic on me
Excellent points on how we can adapt new trends to suit us as we age such as more stretch in the fabrication, wearing a longer length or less exaggeration in the silhouette etc..

Slim cat - Yep, the is this “too much on me” question definitely creeps up in my psyche whenever I try a new trend. Or the “am I trying to be something that I’m not” question as I experiment with a trend that’s a little different from my usual style.

Bijou - Feeling comfortable with our own style certainly helps to overcome any anxiety about trying new trends, but I’m also finding that as my body changes with ageing, my perception of who I am now is changing too which often causes me to question my fashion choices more.

They look brilliant on you and authentic in a fashion forward way. I don't let my age bother me and will always try different things on in the changeroom. That said, I know my own style and only choose current trends that appeal to me.

Great jeans - keep rocking!
I get some "is it too much on me?" from time to time ( about certain pieces/combos ), or just "Am I getting too old for this? ( 58 this spring )". I think it's more about our own confidence, enjoyment and way of caring ourself. Some days I'm brave, and some - playing it safe.
