Congratulations! Mine are 2.5 and almost 5 and I still read Ain't No Mom Jeans for her take on kid and mama body friendly fashion. She even had a post on good tops to wear with carriers. here's one that uses the silhouette mentioned repeatedly above:

http://www.aintnomomjeans.com/.....amas-.html

Give yourself some grace if you just want to be comfortable for awhile, and if you jump right back into style with both feet, post photos! I'm always looking for inspiration! Good luck!

I second the advice to get a pedi. And pick up some cute runners - something bright and fun! Maybe like these?http://http//www.sportchek.ca/.....d=33260706

On Saturday mornings I wear jogging pants and a tee to my daughter's dance class, but I wear a super bright pair of blue and green Nikes. They help me feel cute and sporty, and not so frumpy.

Hi there, congratulations! Such an exciting time.

I agree with Niki Lea - comfort is so much more important that style for the first few weeks. I agree with the suggestion to avoid crewnecks, at least for the first bit, if you are planning to breast-feed. A few cardis and/or casual jackets will add some coverage (both for shape and nursing purposes; a large scarf would be good for this too) and structure when you have to head out.

And - to add some unsolicited but hopefully not too annoying extra advice - can I also suggest considering one or two pants with a forgiving waistband (both to accommodate post-baby shape and for comfort should you have a c-section - fold-down yoga pants or leggings are great for this and a nice change from your maternity pants!), and a few extra jammies too, as you may sweat a lot at night and need to change jammies more frequently than usual. And maybe a non-shape-related splurge like a pedi or a lovely new lipstick, just for happiness :D

Good luck and congratulations again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This will partly depend on whether you breast feed. For the first few months after baby I lived in my maternity/nursing tank tops & cardigans, or woven button up shirts. Both of these help to camouflage the tummy and make feedings easy. Also, you may be different, but I was so hot all the time afterwards that it was important that I could remove a layer (cardigan) easily. Congrats on your new little one!

Are you planning on breastfeeding? Tops that are looser on top or on bottom and can be pulled down or up to expose your breasts make it easier. Not welted pullovers with crew necks so much, unless they are quite loose.
I found a breastfeeding (modesty) cover quite useful, not because I felt the need to hide my breasts or the act of feeding so much, but because I didn't have to worry about my floppy tummy that was not yet totally under my pants. Although I had many pro-bf friends rail against the need for these, and I agree on principle that breastfeeding does not need to be hidden, the cover made it much easier to get dressed in the morning because I didn't need to worry about tummy overexposure when my body was still in the process of losing weight and tightening back up.

Congrats! How exciting!

Is this your first baby? I would say, give yourself permission and some time to wear clothes that are 100% designed for comfort for a while. After both of my kids, I wore sweats, yoga pants, tees, sweatshirts, etc., for weeks.

Then, when I felt ready to wear "normal clothes" (my new normal) I wore a lot of flowy tops with bootcut jeans until my body bounced back a little more. I also continued to wear my bella band under tops for a considerable amount of time, for extra tummy coverage when nursing and to smooth my shape under tops.

I am totally planning on slobbing out for a couple of months post baby :) But then, I have already been told I will need a C-section, and last time it took me well over 6 weeks before I was really moving around well. And, I am not due until October - so winter will be here shortly thereafter.

As others have mentioned, the fluid tops that are all the rage right now are ideal. If you are planning to nurse, just make sure they are nursing friendly. And as JAileem said, I would stay far away from dry clean only with a baby!

Also, don't be afraid to try silohuettes different than what you wore pre-baby. I'm finding mid to high rise jeans are way better at holding in my post-baby tummy than my old standby low rise pants/jeans. I think it is going to take some trial and error to get it right, but at least you are THINKING about how you want to dress and not just slobbing out with yoga wear / PJs like I did for months post-baby...

The current styles of slouchy skinnies or boyfriend jeans and very fluid tops in trapeze, banded blouson, crossover styles, oversized cropped tees (wuth a girdling high-waisted midi or jeans) or pullovers with a welt could be your new best friends. If it is cool where you are try reining in the volume on top with a sleek tux styled vest maybe. Bootcuts and flares and trumpet skirts will balance the belly worn with a welted top or one with a dropped waistband.
