Nikkilove - I just want to say good luck with your pursuits. Be true to yourself and follow your dreams. My daughter is 19 and has been on a restricted diet her entire life for medical reasons.
Over the past year she has changed her diet (Its still very restricted but now she's eating healthier and higher volume- more fruits, vegetables and fish) and she grew almost two inches this past year. We were extremely surprised at her height gain at the age of 19. Anything is possible!

Hello nikkilove, I just adore your name. The reality is that you really seem like a beautiful and determined sprit. If there is drive and hard work success will come. Stretching yourself by five inches is a tough goal. But if you are sure you want to model there are a few things that you can do. You can look outside of the mainstream fashion, search for local fashion shows, do print work, there are hand, shoe models. You can create your own niche or path. I believe that all the advice that has been given here is really based on reality and expireience.

My niece is 6'1 and slim at 19 a talent scout found her but, said she needed to loose weight about 20 pounds at that time she was 126. We instilled in her that she was just perfect as is. The industry will try try to change you tell you your not good enough or if only you do this you would be perfect. One of the things my niece did for a short time was to start a fashion blog she said it was a creative outlet for her. She was able to put together outfits from thrifting and would up cycle her clothing. Maybe that will feed part of you desire to model.

Goodluck on your journey.

I will become a model as long as I believe in myself, and don't give up. Thanks for the advice everyone, but I am not following any of it. If I listen to all of you that would mean giving up super easy, and I have way more determination than that!! Also Echo about what you said, breaking in after 17 is rare. That is very untrue girls that go on Americas next top model have to be 18 just to get on the show along with The Face. I really do appreciate you all trying to give advice, and I don't mean to disrespect. I just won't let all these little words bring me down. I will become a model and prove all of you wrong.

It depends on whether and when you hit menarche. Generally speaking, a girl can grow perhaps 1"-3" more over the two years after the first period. Growing significantly after that is unusual and rarely occurs. It would be very unusual to grow 5" more after the age of 17.

Please do not do anything risky (like taking growth hormones), as it is unlikely to work and likely to cause side effects. Additionally, breaking into modeling after age 17 is extraordinarily rare and generally takes an enormous amount of luck. If your looks (height aside) are not what an agency is looking for (which may change year to year), you will be passed over regardless of height. Please don't pin your dreams on such a capricious industry.

There is a technique for stretching out the lower leg (tibia) to add height but it has side effects, is painful and needs v careful medical supervision. You would need to see a cosmetic surgeon about it but keep in mind it is quite controversial and certainly expensive.

I would not even consider the pain and expense without expressions of interest from a few agencies. Keep in mind too that height is mostly relevant for runway or live modelling. Many still photo or video models are NOT as tall. Online retailers often use shorter and even petite models to give the customer a better idea of how clothes will fit. True of some fashion mags etc too. And commercials outside of fashion... Hair or hand or teeth etc...

I agree with Lynn. Alexander technique can help you stand correctly and may add height if you slouch.

There are things you can take if you believe you are medically deficient in certain stimulating hormones, but under the guidance of your doctor. Five inches sounds like quite a bit of height if you want to grow that much.

I'd advise you seek advice from your family doctor as opposed to a forum when it comes to your medical health.

I think you are interested in being a fashion model correct? Yoga can help with stretching and adding about an inch of height in my experience.

One thing I just wanted to add, when she was your age, my best friend who was the target height and weight, and had a small nose, big eyes, and high defined cheekbones and a great jawline visited a modelling agency. She was told that she was 'interesting looking' rather than ideal, because of very small subtleties of her face that made her look like a beautiful individual rather than having cookie-cutter features. They said she would have difficulty being a traditional model. I really recommend meeting with and talking to a modelling agency (without spending any money) if this is something you are interested in.

However, there are models who aren't traditional in size or shape at all, but are gorgeous women, and they model for more alternative or independent clothing and jewelry lines and magazines. They also model for life drawing and sculpting classes, and for photographers and painters. It's also really important that they are visible in print and online so that women and men have an expanded idea of the infinity variety of physical beauty.

Linda is probably right. I think the steroids make you bigger all over. I'm not sure there is anything out there to aid in attaining height. All I can suggest is eating good foods that help nourish and build bone, like good proteins and plenty of calcium. You may carry on growing till you're about 19-20 maybe. A good exercise regime that keeps you long and lean with a stretching routine may help too.

I'm not entirely sure, nikkilove, but I do know that a friend's son (age 12) is taking some sort of steroids to get bigger because he is very, very tiny for his age. I don't know if that is just to get taller or if it will make him bigger all over (I suspect bigger all over). Don't worry - we're not mean here.
