Thank you! I decided to keep and embrace the future imperfections :)
New bag and new attitude I took the bag for a little outing today and it felt good - light, comfortable and keeps the shape even half empty.

I agree with efbgen, lisa p and sterling. Part of the value of good leather (and why it can be pricey) is that it's tough and will last a long time and sometimes even look better with some wear. Enjoy the bag, clean it as needed, and use some polish on it if scratches appear....and don't fret over it. Tory Burch quality should be very good, you should have it for years.

Efbgen expressed my sentiments exactly. I hope you keep the bag and love it for years to come.

I wouldn't worry about it personally. If you love it, use it and enjoy it. I don't see how you could go wrong with that purse.

Imagine it with it’s first scratch. How do you feel?
If fine, keep it. If not, return it.

Thank you all. I think you are right - I should try to relax about keeping things pristine and just enjoy it. In a way, keeping clothes and other personal items as closed to an original condition as possible makes me feel somewhat less guilty about buying it in a first place. Oh, and the pressure of a “right” choice

Suede is a different issue - and I agree that one wants to use a quality bag for a long time . I bet I had my good scratched one for 10 years - and it could easily have lasted longer .

I view all my leather purses as good investments but try to find a balance between enjoying them and keeping them special. I had a gorgeous clutch that was a special gift from a special person. I put it away to keep for good only. It would have been better had I used it all along keeping it conditioned. Never again. My motto- Love it and enjoy it.
If you are starting out afraid of it not holding up to wear and tear you are hoping for then you are starting out in the negative emotion column. Your first mark will result in you either beating up on yourself or relegating purse to closet. The purse and wear and tear is not the issue- it’s your fear “ of making a mistake”.
Life is too short to have regrets over a purse.
LISA is on absolute point. Purses are about “a little polish “ and enjoying the character of it.
Lose the fear, enjoy character building of both you and the leather purse:-)

Lovely bag Irina - I can't offer advice though. At least black can be polished and wiped relatively easily though?

Thanks, Lisa. I’m afraid to make a mistake. Two years ago a bought a Kate Spade New York black bag with a suede front pocket. The bag itself is fine but the suede on the pocket lost it’s color with some fibers visible. May be not a big deal but doesn’t look sharp to my eye. And I intended to use a bag a whole lot longer than 2 years.

I had a lovely smooth black leather satchel that I now wish I had kept - which got a short , deep scratch in it early in its life . I worked some polish into it , and it became part of the character of the bag over the years . Natural leather is imperfect anyways .

Yesterday I bought a medium black leather tote by Tory Burch. I love the design and it would be a very functional bag for me. I’ve searched for months for something simple and modern. But... all my black purses are pebble leather, soft and textured. This one is in plain smooth leather. It seems that even a small scratch is visible. Not too obvious but still. I’m looking for a bag for work and weekends. It will be heavily used. Can you, please, share your experiences with smooth leather bags?
