I actually live on the Eastside (where 90 and 405 cross) but I work in downtown Seattle. I can also drive just about anywhere. (And I will, to find an excellent tailor!)

I found mine by asking around (including Angie :-)) I recently moved to Seattle's Seward Park neighborhood, and asked for recommendations on some neighborhood email lists. I now take my clothes to Adam Taylor on Rainier Ave S. (between Gennessee and Columbia City, on the right side if you're heading south on Rainier). They make whole dresses there but also do all kinds of alternations. I've been very happy with different kinds of alterations there, and the prices can't be beat. Recently I paid $9 for having jeans hemmed and straps in a tank top shortened. Unbelievable!
This will of course totally depend on where you live; it's gotta be convienent in addition to being good! In addition to getting pointers from Angie (she recommended a dry-cleaner/alteration service in Madison Valley to me that I found very good also), do ask friends/colleagues/neighbors for recommendations and then try out a tailor with an easy alteration first. Hope that helps.

Angie, I was wondering if you could give out some advice on finding a great tailor. My dry cleaner usually does alterations, but my favorite seamstress has shut down her shop! :-(

I am a short, pear-shaped person and often need things altered: pant lengths (always to the "perfect" length, hehe), waist lines, and shoulders on coats, and finding a great tailor has proven difficult so far.

What advice can you offer us on how to find a great tailor? (I live in Seattle, if you know of one or a few to try out, that'd be great also!)

Thanks -- Sara
