Zapotee - that first dress is awesome. I may have to go look at that one in the store.

Day Vies - thank you for reminding me about chunky shoes/boots. I will have to take that into account.

Diana - that's another look that's pretty cool. I just wish I had the legs to carry off those short dresses.

Karie - Would you believe the 80s are considered vintage now? Ugh! And I was a teen then. like the way they styled that dress so am definitely interested. Thanks.

I like this one - I think it is the same dress that Diana posted above, just styled differently.

http://www1.bloomingdales.com/.....4AodgjQAzg

I think of mod differently than vintage - when I think of mod dresses, I think of more of a '60s vibe with geometric patterns and A line shapes, but when I think of vintage, I think of lace and frills, and styles that have more of a 1920's vibe.

So I guess I'm not too sure about what look you're after, but if it's a mod - 60's look, I would go with an A line dress, tights and boots or booties. Have at least one of those elements in a fun, bright color and you'll be the fashion hit of the party!

http://piperlime.gap.com/brows.....6bih%3D672
Something lik this? I like how the yellow one is styled with booties for a modern look. For a more mod costume, I'd go with taller boots to get a go go boot vibe, and colored tights.

Or something like my mod dress here, which has a slightly psychedelic looking pattern but not a super 60s shape, which is harder to wear IMO.

I say if you have a black dress similar to the J.Crew dress above then you could add super opaque tights and accessories in 1 really bright color -- (fuchsia, lemon yellow, emerald green, white, cobalt -- you get the idea). Finish off with a patent chunky heel (low or high), a structured bag, a skinny belt or a huge statement necklace (not sure how long or short your torso is (if it's long do both). Hope that helps!

Zara had a couple of mod dresses I liked.
What about this one, is that mod???
http://www.zara.com/webapp/wcs.....LE%20DRESS
or this one:
http://www.zara.com/webapp/wcs.....NT%20DRESS
and I might get this one:
http://www.zara.com/webapp/wcs.....CE%20DRESS

While I love that jcrew dress, I think I may lean a little bit more vintage-y. Thanks for the input and I'll keep it on my list.

How about something like this in a rich jewel tone, and then dress it up with some vintage cocktail jewelry and some kitten heels?

I've been invited to a Mod New Year's Eve party and would love to get into a dressier style but not necessarily a vintage outfit because I'd like to wear the outfit in the present too. Since I wear a lot of casual but modern vintage-y looking outfits, I wanted a more of an evening look.

Any suggestions? Any websites you can steer me to? Photos? All opinions are appreciated.
