I think moto-boots are tried and true. Not classic, per se, but not a style that's going away.

If you wore out 2 pair, it sounds like you love them and wear them.

Suz - I've had that boot in my finds, even though it's not available. I heart it lots :)

I also like that Moto boots aren't too precious. I've gone to school fairs and sledding in mine, and then I've worn them with a dress tromping all over Vegas and sightseeing in NYC in them. They were not super expensive, but the replacement pair I had died this spring. I've been looking for the new boot all last year, and hope I can find something I like as much this fall.

Ah, okay, then your climate is a lot like mine.

I purchased my first moto boots 2 seasons ago and as with Smittie, they became instant workhorse footwear. (Before that I had worn a casual chelsea boot in similar situations). The motos were high quality and weatherproof and gave me a bit of additional warmth and I LOVE them even though, like Smittie, I'm more of a refined boot type of person. I was actually hoping I could get a new pair at NAS but Aquatalia did not offer them. I'm going to get mine refurbished instead.

Ironically, I first bought these boots at NAS three years ago -- but returned them -- and then regretted not having kept them for a full year. No sooner did the weather turn after I bought them then they were on my feet nonstop. I actually wear mine about 5 times a week. As Smittie says, this type of footwear serves a practical purpose. It is weather-worthy (I walk everywhere) but not as obvious and clunky as a snow boot.

Delurked - glad to see you also love them. I guess when I think about it I do tend toward a chunkier shoe, not sure why but I really don't have any delicate shoes, except for super dressy. I could see myself wearing this style for a long time.

Susie - thanks for your input. I do tend to dress pretty casually. Yay for timeless! I feel better after hearing from you guys.

While I prefer more refined styles these days, 'stompy' boots still appeal to me for casual wear. I don't have moto style boots but I do think they are timeless.

I've been wearing moto boots for over twenty years. Not sure why I've always loved them, but I've always liked a clunkier shoe, and I don't see me turning my back on this style anytime in the future. I do think there can be sleeker or chunkier shoes that would both fit within the genre, so I say veer toward which lane you prefer.

Thank you for the great replies!

Suz - that is exactly it, I have been wearing a lot of crops but I always do in the summer. I'm in Michigan and not sure I will continue trying to wear them as the weather gets colder.

Smittie - I agree, I love the "stompy"-ness of them and haven't worn snow boots since I got them.

Diana - Good to hear they are a classic. I tend to agree but really don't see alot of them in style forums so wasn't sure. Great point about the upgrade - my old ones are really comfortable and walkable which is one reason I love them so much.

I think moto boots are classic and won't date. I have worn them heavily every winter for many years and have not tired of them. I upgraded mine to Fryes a few years back and have not regretted it one bit.

Clearly you like the ones you have and they go with your wardrobe/style so I think you should go for it.

ETA: The only times I've regretted it are when the upgraded item ends up being not as comfortable as the cheapo one. So just make sure you keep the same comfort standards and don't get blinded by the fact that they are supposedly "better".

Is there something practical about the Moto style that keeps you coming back?
For me, the "stompy boot" is very practical for my winters. It is in between a bootie and a snow boot. So even though I am more into delicate boots, the stompy boot will still have a place for practical reasons.

If you've already gone through two of them, it might be good to get a higher quality pair.

But if you choose moto boots purely for aesthetics, and you're eyeing other boot types that you haven't tried before, it might be worth holding off on the Moto and doing some experimenting.

I don't regret repurchasing a similar styled item if it is an essential to my style.

For instance, I've worn blazers for the past 30 years and never get sick of them. I might wear them more one year than the next but I still enjoy wearing them.

If you wore those boots twice a week, something about them must have fitted them for your lifestyle and wardrobe.

Do you still have the same types of bottoms you wore with them?

Have you bought a lot of cropped pants? If so, motos might not work the best with those, depending on whether the crops are flared or straight/ skinny, of course, and how high the motos are (because you could still tuck a longer slim crop into motos).

I need an opinion from the experts! I have loved moto boots for years, so much that I have gone through two pairs. They were inexpensive and not leather so they started looking worn more quickly than I would have liked but also because I wore them several times a week. I still wear the second pair but they were looking pretty raggedy by this spring.

Yesterday I saw some for a great price, in leather, in my size. My question for myself is, will I still like them for a while or will it be more like been-there-done-that? I don’t want to buy them and find that I would rather have a different style like a more fitted taller bootie. I do have various other styles of boots. They are inexpensive for leather boots, but still a chunk of my wardrobe budget. I know I love them but will they feel tired style-wise? No matter how much I love them if I feel that they are dated I won't wear them. I have to decide pretty quickly or they will be gone. Any advice? What experience have you had with purchasing something you already have? Did you regret it?
