I love your #2 skirt outfit. Super pretty!!!

As for this pink skirt, I would wear it with a navy or white lace blouse. I have this simple white blouse - knit in the back, lace in the front, cut like a tee. I sized up because I like a boxy top with slim fit pants/skirts. I quite like that top because it helps me balance out dressy bottoms, without really taking away the 'dressy' integrity of the outfit.
Here is a picture of the top with some pants, but I think you'll get the idea.

Oh my gosh, I love that long print skirt outfit in photo 2 above. You are stunning in it. What a bold, chic look.

For the raspberry skirt, I would try to find (or make, or have made) a white or ivory top similar to the original one, but a little boxy. Lace, as Angie suggests, would be fab, or silk shantung or a silk ottoman textured fabric.

Thanks for the advice and suggestions!

I am going to take both pieces to the cleaner and then to the tailor for their advice. I will also do a try one session with the skirt and some existing tops I have (for shapes/lengths more than colours).

I don't want to throw "good money after bad", if honestly the skirt only works in an ensemble. And while in some ways I could wear this casually, it is relatively delicate, so I am not sure I would choose this option often. I may come to the conclusion that I will just keep it for the future (either myself or someone else).

I like the idea of a lace top, I think it could look lovely. I used to wear lace shell tops with suits and lace tights, so I have it in me to wear lace.

I actually a little rusty on wearing skirts, I have a couple I have worn regularly over the last year (see below) but I have only two others, neither which I am feeling drawn to. But that might mean it is time to try something different to add a spark.

What Coco said! I would love to see you find a way to preserve the top as well and lace or a casual tee would be great ways to go with the skirt.

I recently had a top altered to fit. The tailor let out every seam to the limit and then changed the zip for a metal zip that opened at the bottom. She sewed the zip in leaving some of the sides exposed. It made a feature of the zip and added more room to the top. It fits now and I like it better with the exposed zip.

Would that be doable on your top? i think it would look fab with wide leg jeans and pants

I like Angie's idea of lace with the skirt.

Great. I'm glad you retried the skirt, Sally. How about finding a lace top to go with it - either in black, grey or white. Finish with metallic footwear and bag.

I would wear this skirt with simple white top, denim jacket and silver sandals for more dress down look. But I don't really see it used for dressy occasions.

I've been brainstorming ideas for your skirt. (Perhaps because it reminds me of a two-piece maxi dress in raspberry shantung that I had made for a friend's wedding years ago; I've remixed the pieces a jillion ways, and even though they don't exactly fit right now, you'd have to pry them out of my cold dead hands.)

But this is about you and your skirt. Is it summer or winter weight or in between? I can see it with a light floral sleeved top with a handkerchief hem. Not sure that is your style so I peeked at your WIWs. I saw the blush sweater with sharkbite hem, the red? and white split-back blouse, and the top made from the floral silk scarf. Do any of those work? So, a sort of long-and-loose over short-and-narrow silhouette, that seems more current than a fitted top unless you are going all Grace Kelly classic.

As for the top: if the main problem is that the back is too narrow, could you split it all the way up the back and splice in a zipper with black or silver contrast fabric on either side? I wear my blouse with jeans...

Thanks Brooklyn, I agree a shorter but not too short top would work, and I need some draped, ruching, peplum or similar usually.

Yes I could really dress it down, it is relatively fragile, but I don't play rugby. And that way I could wear it to meet friends for coffee or wine.

Hi Sally. I like the idea of dressing it down for summer. I think it could work with a hip length tee or top that has some ruching or a knot effect to give the top shape (so that is it accentuates your hourglass figure). Similar to this Metalicus one in my finds but shorter. (I have this top, and I suspect it would be too long for an A line type skirt.) Or the second find (which is from NAS) in a different colour. I think this second style might work better with an A line skirt because it is shorter. Or something like this Decjuba tee here:

Agree with Angie about evaluating your preferences, but I'm seeing this dressed down with a classic stripy tee and flats. Then again, that's pretty much how I see everything these days.

Not sure about the alteration on the top. You might be able to put some extra fabric in the side seams under the arms.

I tried it on Friday along with most of my occasionwear (bar one which I forgot about). I have five that I either like a lot or love, four which have been worn in the last 12 months. One dress is no longer right and is going to the "dressup" closet for future generations.

I do like this skirt, it fits well, I love the colour, subtle sparkles, and as a gentle A line it is very classic. I loved it with the top - but the top is no longer a good fit. A pretty top that worked with this skirt and also with other pieces would be ideal. I can't try it on right now, but I could tomorrow and post a picture if that would help.

I have this lovely skirt I would like to wear. It is part of a "suit" purchased in 2004 for three weddings. The last time I wore it was four years ago.

My body has changed shape over the last 12 years, and while at one stage the whole ensemble was too tight, now the skirt fits well, however I have come to the conclusion the top will not fit me any longer, it is too tight across my back (which I hope is wider since I started weights but who knows).

It is silk, a lovely raspberry colour, knee length with subtle sequins (yes there is such a thing). I see it being worn to dinners, summer parties or even weddings if I purchased the right top.

I think it would be a hard colour to match exactly , and given my shape, I don't see a tucked in top working well. Black would be too harsh. My thoughts are a blush pink top with a peplum....something quite delicate. Or maybe silver.

Or if there is any easy way to alter the top, it has a zip down the back from one third the way down.

I won't sell this. As a teenager I had a lot of fun borrowing older dresses from my Grand mother/Aunt/Mum and while I have two sons I have visions of lending these older pieces to younger relatives who can style them how they like or even alter them.

Or do you think I should leave this one alone?

Thanks in advance.
