I would carry a large tote or bag as alternative to a regular purse just to hold my jean jacket or sweater and any little things I picked up - plus handy for going to the pool.

Sounds like you have the shoe dilemma solved - comfy sandals for walking plus the Crocs for pool and emergency backup and the Cole Haans you have and you are set. There is lots of shopping alternatives in Vegas in case none of that works out!

Have fun!

Wow, this is all excellent advice everyone!

Marianna -- Yeah, much as I would love to wear boots... sandals it should be.

Kelley -- I found my Cleos. They are fairly worn out but I think I can get one more trip out of them. I can always use them as pool shoes :)

Angie -- Ugh, I hate such a temperature extreme. Guess I will be need to lug a light jacket around! Sounds like I'll need some kind of backpack too.

A -- ooh, another recommendation for the Crocs. Good to know!

velvetychocolate -- thanks for the description of the importance of shoes! I thought there was going to be a lot of walking, but it seems like there's going to be A LOT of walking involved just in the hotel! I like those Ecco shoes. I am going to Nordstrom tomorrow so will see what they have. I just recalled I have Cole Haan thong sandals that I tromped around in Seattle a whole day shopping with Angie -- so I'm hope they will do the trick, as well as the Crocs. (ETA: My Nordie's has the Ecco Bouillon t-strap in black on sale! bought it online and will go try on tomorrow...fingers crossed)

Kyle -- Thanks for the reminder for sunscreen! I'm bringing a hat too (purple straw cowboy hat I picked up in Mexico). Those Easy Spirits are cute -- I like the small heel.

You'll need to layer, layer, layer. And, sorry to say it will indeed be too hot for boots, but you'll surely be walking a lot.

The sun is brutal and unforgiving here in the SW. Please be sure to have good sunscreen protection on all the time. Take a look at the Easy Spirit Robinette. They are versatile, with a small amount of lift and soooo comfortable for walking -- I've road tested them.

I just wanted to say that no matter where you're staying or what the actual temperature is outside, you *will* be walking a whole lot - because most hotels in the main 'strip area' are huge and it takes a lot of walking to get from place to place. One year, I stayed at MGM Grand and it literally took 15 minutes of walking from our room to get to the Monorail to meet up with some friends and family in another hotel.

I would say that comfortable shoes are probably *the most important thing* when contemplating a trip to Vegas, no matter what time of year it is. I don't know if you can get super-fast shipping from a place such as Zappos or if you have time to whip out and get some uber-comfy shoes, but I'd say it would be worth the hassle. Some of my ultra comfortable shoes didn't actually make the cut, especially when it comes to leaving one's hotel room at 8 am and returning at 8pm. At this time of year, I wouldn't recommend boots, no matter how comfy and aerated they are.

I was just in Vegas about a month ago - very hot, and a whole lot of walking (indoors and out). Angie's right about the need to layer - the a/c can get frigid.

A light cardi or favourite jacket will work well for this purpose (in the a/c I mean)...however, having said that - the comfortable shoes are *all important*. Even a pair of Dansko sandals (my first pair ever) didn't "make the cut" when it came to tromping all over the place all day long. Come to think of it - there's a chance that no matter how comfortable the shoes are, your feet are going to be tired and sore at the end of each day.

Personally, for this particular trip, at this time of year - I'd recommend some incredibly comfortable sandals. Eccos are good, Clark's are good, and I'm sure there are others too. If you rush out and get some 'good' comfortable walking sandals or other favourite shape/style of shoe, you won't regret it, because you'll be able to wear them for other occasions that are similar.

Have you considered Angie's recommended Ecco t-strap sandals?

http://youlookfab.com/store/20.....on-sandal/

I don't have these yet, but if you look closely at the shoes, you'll see that the bottoms are almost like running shoes, and yet - the sandals are still very pretty and elegant-looking. They're also a style that won't go "out of style" for a little while yet, given that they are somewhat consertive-looking. I can vouch for Ecco's comfort ...highly recommended.

If I were you - I'd be ordering a pair of these on 'rush shipping' to get them in time for the trip.

There's also the Ecco banded bouillon shoe as well (as seen in pic #1):

http://www.amazon.com/ECCO-Wom.....B005GBP1L6

I am sure that Angie also popped these into one of her pick lists, but I can't find the exact blog posting...

Don't go to Vegas without really comfortable, all-purpose shoes.

I second the Crocs. I was there 2 years ago, and never in my room. I had a brown and black sandal pair (with the two straps) plus some heels and sandals..I only wore the sandals once, wore the Crocs with almost everything, capris, skirts, shorts...well worth the $70. My girlfriends had all kinds of cute strappy dress sandals and were in agony. I wore shrugs and Jean jackets in the evenings

I went to Vegas last Summer - 110 degrees of DRY heat.

That said, it's 65 degrees in the A/C. *Ridiculous* temperature difference. I needed my boots and coat for inside.

I found the Crocks on 6PM and they are called "Cleo". I remember paying something like $35 for them and here they were listed at $18 there but that might be because they had limited sizes? Still, $18. That's like --- free. haha

I pulled mine out just for fun and now I see that I wore the tread PLUMB OFF. Seriously, they are almost completely smooth. Wow. We musta had a REALLY GOOD TIME in Vegas!

I've never worn any shoes out, ever (except running shoes). I'm actually pretty proud of that. LOL

I definitely think you'll want sandals. I think boots in the Vegas heat would cause hot sweaty feet and possibly blisters. I know I wouldn't be comfortable in boots in the desert climate.

Sylvie -- I do have a pair of gladiator sandals. However they are the type with just a flat piece of leather for the sole/bottom, so not much cushioning. Maybe I will bring them along just in case; they don't take up much space. Thanks for the suggestion!

Kelley -- I know exactly the Crocs you are talking about! I had/have the white pair with green accent. Not sure where they are -- they are a bit old and worn though. You are right, they are super comfortable. If I get a chance, I'll have to search for them and maybe get another pair -- totally forgot about them as an option And going through my collection of sleeveless dresses!

I've been to Vegas several times, mostly in the summer (why? don't know). We walk everywhere up and down the strip, day and night, so comfy shoes in that heat are priority. The best sandals my sister and I ever wore were (oh I'm so scared to say this) the Crock sandals. The little ones with the two skinny bands across the top of the foot. They were lightweight, cushioned, barely-there and looked cute (you can't even tell they are crocks). We must have walked 50 miles in those sandals and they are still one of my favorite pair. I think it was the cushioning that made them winners.

As far as clothes? Sleeveless shifts or sundresses with a lightweight cardi was perfect for day then into the night.

Have fun! I wish we were going, too!

Thanks Rae! Hadn't thought about it that way, the fact that it won't be 100% comfy because of the heat -- so true!

Hm, I do have some beat-up Mephisto sandals that are super-comfy. Maybe I should just bring those I am also going to pack the Dr Martens Mona lace-up sandals for a comfortable heel. Unfortunately although the Report booties are comfy, I don't find them to be an 8-hour shoe because of the height. Otherwise I think they would work really well!

I always do a lot of walking when I end up in Vegas - and I don't even go to clubs for dancing like many like to do. I would definitely try to start with the shoes and work your way up. Boots won't be 100% comfy in the heat - but really, at that heat, you aren't going to be 100% comfy even in sandals, so I'd go with the ones you can walk in. The Report booties might be worth considering; the ankle opening let in a lot of airflow when I had them on in Rome.

I'll be off to Las Vegas in a few days and am trying to figure out what to pack, given the hot (100+ deg F) outside temps and cool inside A/C temps. I recall when Angie went to Vegas she wore jackets inside, so I'll at least bring a cardi or jean jacket.

One of my concerns is footwear. Seems like I should pack comfortable walking shoes but my only 8-hour shoes are running shoes and boots! Can boots be worn in 100+ deg weather? The ones I'm thinking of are my perforated Frye Carson boots or the shorter Frye Heath boots.

Thanks for any packing advice!
