Have some egg tarts for me! HK style, not Portugese style

Oh wow thanks Lyn and Angie - Hubbie & I are currently sitting at Hong Kong Airport enroute to Amsterdam . We had a 15 hour wait between flights but were so tired we spent most of our time sleeping and resting. We did venture out to the City Gate Outlet Mall via the Hotel Shuttle but didn't have the energy for much more.

Hmm, I have never seen the laser show at night - I guess something else for me to do the next time I am in HK.

Japanese department stores are -sooooo- fun. We are from Sha Tin originally in the New Territories - they have a tiny Ikea - it's hilarious how small it is!

Mmm. Asian bakeries. So hungry right now :3

Hong Kong is my home and very, very special to me. And Amsterdam my favourite Euro city.

I would leave out the Budha hike for a 4 day trip. It's VERY time consuming. May I suggest taking the double decker bus to Stanley Market via Repulse Bay and perhaps Aberdeen instead.

Must do the Peak, Mid-Levels Escalator, Star Ferry, Tea at the Peninsula, see the lazer show at night on the Tsim Sha Tsui pier. Mong Kok Market. Jade Market. Hollywood Road and Lan Kwai Fong. Central is my stomping ground and Cause way Bay my favourite shopping area. The Japanese department stores are sublime.

The food is a mind blow. Choose your restaurants carefully and organize your stomach so that you can taste it all. Asian food is much cheaper than Western Food. The Asian bakeries are my best.

The a/c is FREEZING everywhere in HK. Must wrap up inside.

Have fun.

In terms of getting around - everyone speaks english. If you plan on taking metro/public transport - get an Octopus card. You can either do that at the metro stations or 7-11.

Street food is generally okay, as long as there are a lot of people eating there. I eat from vendors all the time with no problems and I have a very "delicate glass stomach" as my dad says. I don't eat raw food though, without taking it and washing it myself - regular travel rules apply for drinking things.

The airport is huge; don't be surprised to see military there with machine guns - that's just their security.

If you're going to the New Territories - green cabs are cheaper than red (the green ones are set rate, and the red ones are by the hour, I think).

If you have respiratory difficulties, bring extra ventolin. I almost never need my blue puffer but I was pretty reliant on it during our trip.

HAVE FUN Can't wait to see your pics!

Hi Lyn - we leaving things pretty open at the moment . Get to Amsterdam and decide from there where else we'll go - I kind of have a yearning to see Florence or Barcelona. Getting ver excited we depart in about 6 hours.

I love HK!

I recommend High Tea at the Peninsula for everyone - just because it's a chance to dress up fancy! My parents and I went and it was a total blast. http://www.peninsula.com/Hong_Kong/en/default.aspx

If you're into history, the Hong Kong Museum of History is very well done and tells the story of the colony. My dad had a lot of fun pointing out stuff from his childhood, but they have english on everything and everyone spoke english there, so there should be no problems. http://www.lcsd.gov.hk/CE/Muse.....US/web/mh/

If you're an outdoorsy type, the hike up the 10,000 Buddha mountain is very interesting - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T....._Monastery and there is the big Buddha on Lantau Island too, that is by the airport: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tian_Tan_Buddha

Taking a ride on the Star Ferry is also fun: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Ferry

Also is a ride to the Peak: http://www.thepeak.com.hk/en/

Hi ladies - hubby & I turn 50 this year so our present to ourselves is a 4 week holiday in Europe initially staying in Amsterdam with my bro & his family. However we are flying home via Hong Kong and stopping over for 4 nights. I've never been there before so wondered what people would recommend.
